Swedish Exchange Students Visit Local Artists
Mora High School students joined by our Swedish Exchange Program students were
guests at two of our local artists’ studios as part of the Fall Art Crawl sponsored by Mora
CAPP earlier this month. Students visited Keith Raivo, metal sculptor & Becky Utech, felting & fiber artist. The photo shows Becky sharing her home grown sheep’s wool dyed in bright colors to use for felting pictures, clothes & three dimensional objects. The students all created colorful felted rocks to be used in a collaborative artwork that will be touring Mora soon!

Four Mora District Employees Honored It’s the “little bit more” Attitude that Makes a Support Staff a STAR Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the Holiday Inn, St. Cloud, over 250 people attended to honor 75 honorees whose job descriptions are merely the tipping point of the impact these honorees make on their schools and their community. Rob Cavanna, Executive Director of Resource, welcomed guests and explained how this event came about. “A number of superintendents in
our 42-member district region approached Resource about a regional recognition event honoring educational support staff. We at Resource, as well as the leadership in our school districts, agreed that this group needed to be recognized for their work and contributions to the schools. “It is about the little things wrapped up in the kind of person you are that makes you a star,” said Mary Dank, keynote speaker for the event. “It’s what you do that
adds a measure of joy to routine experiences and daily interactions with kids and co-workers,” she said. “You far exceed the minimum standards listed on a job description because you are willing to give more of yourself in service to others,” Mary added. The event was sponsored by participating school districts, North Central Bus Service and Resource Training & Solutions. For more information on this event go to www. resourcetraining.com
Come join us on Thursday Nov. 3, to learn about First Aid for Children. Lynne White-ford-Van Hale & Julie Johnson will help participants gain basic knowledge of First Aid & CPR for infants & children. Some of the topics covered will be: Fever, Burns, Cuts, Drowning & Choking. Mannequins provided for hands on practice. This is a noncertification course. Childcare is available for $2 per child. There is no cost for participating, but you must preregister for the class & childcare.
CONGRATULATIONS! Congratulations to Justin for showing his “Mustang Brand” skills (Respect, Pride & Safety) on bus #6. Pictured with Justin are Gayle and Dean Stassen.

Mora Faculty Dances to Lady Gaga! About 20 high school faculty members participated in a faculty pepfest dance to a Lady Gaga medley on Friday of homecoming. The dance moves were a little bit more involved than years past, however, it was the outfits that re-
ally shocked the student body. The partcipants stayed true to the Lady Gaga theme. The dance was choreographed by a couple of the teachers and all of the headpieces and accessories were supplied or created by a member of the staff as
well. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the performance whether they were students cheering on the sidelines or faculty members in exravagant head gear. Our only hope is that more of our 80+ staff members join the fun next year! Students from the high school career’s class visited Emma’s Pizza & learned what it’s like to own your own business. Dave Anderson gave them a tour and shared how he made his business successful. He also treated them to pizza!

Return on Investment Auction Service LLC & Industrial Recycling Services LLC Our companies combine to offer you a professional liquidation service. An alternative to regular auction services. Serving the Minnesota area since 1979. Industrial Recycling Services and Return on Investment Auction Service are determined to deliver a return on your investment. Owner Mike Harris just recently combined his two businesses and is promoting them together as an end-to-end commercial and industrial liquidation service. “We have combined these two businesses to provide an outlet for nonperforming assets in commercial and industrial businesses. In the past our mission has been metal recycling and recovery, now we have combined the two businesses and provide an outlet for non-performing assets,” said Harris. Industrial Recycling Services and Return on Investment Auction Service, offers online auction services, industrial equipment brokerage, pickup and delivery services, equipment removal, pre-auction storage and transportation services. The businesses have evolved over three generations. Harris’ maternal grandfather came to East Central Minnesota from South Dakota in 1957. Selmer Sakariason was a Norwegian gentleman who did metal salvage and recovery in the area. Inspired by his father-in-law, Harris’ father, Tom, fell into the business in 1977 and purchased the Comfort Township land in 1979. Their family moved here in 1981. “We were Harris and Son Metal Salvage until 1989, and then we incorporated and became Industrial Recycling Services,” said Harris. At that time, they were focused on metal recycling for industrial companies. Harris explained they purchased more land in 2001. Then in 2005, Return on Investment Auction Service was founded, providing service throughout the Midwest. And that brings him to the present being known as Industrial Recycling Services and Return on Investment Auction Service. According to Harris, the companies are bonded with the District Five Bankruptcy Attorneys. Just recently, Industrial Recycling Services and Return on Investment
Auction Service performed an end-to-end liquidation for Bremer Bank, one of Minnesota’s largest banks. The deal garnered Harris respect from the financial institution for going above and beyond their expectations. Industrial Recycling Services and Return on Investment Auction Services mission is to provide an industrial and commercial liquidation service, focused on banking and business communities. “Estate Liquidation, Business Closures, Equipment Transportation, Online Auctions, Site Cleanup and resale presentations.”

PHEASANT SEASON
October 15 - January 1 Pheasant Hunting Tips According to a DNR wildlife research biologist, pheasants follow a schedule as routine as your daily commute to and from work. Understanding the pheasant’s daily movements can increase your odds of flushing a rooster. “Pheasants start their day before sunrise at roost sites, usually in areas of short- to medium-height grass or weeds, where they spend the night.” That’s the word from Dick Kimmel, research biologist at the DNR Farmland Wildlife Research and Populations Station at Madelia. Kimmel says that at first light, pheasants head for roadsides or similar areas where they can find gravel or grit. Pheasants usually begin feeding around 8 a.m. When shooting hours begin an hour later, the birds are still feeding, often in grain fields while cautiously making their way toward safe cover. “Look for the edges of picked cornfields,” says Kimmel, who regularly hunts southwestern Minnesota with his English setter, Banjo.
By mid-morning, pheasants have left the fields for the densest, thickest cover they can find, such as a standing corn, federal Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) fields, brush patches, wetlands, or native grasses. Kimmel says the birds will “hunker down here for the day until late afternoon.”
morning, birds now are easier to spot from a distance and are more accessible to hunters. “That’s why the first and last shooting hours are consistently the best times to hunt pheasants,” Kimmel adds.
Gear Up Pheasant hunting doesn’t require a lot of specialized or expensive equipment, but there are some basic items that will make your time in the field more enjoyable and productive. • License/Hunting Regulations Handbook • Maps • Shotgun and shells • Blaze orange • Good boots • Layered clothing • Eye & ear protection • A good dog • Refreshments
It’s next to impossible for small hunting groups of two to three hunters to work large fields of standing corn. Pheasants often run to avoid predators, a response that frustrates dogs and hunters working corn, soybean, and alfalfa fields. Groups of two or three hunters usually have better success working grass fields, field edges, or fencerows. Other likely spots during midday are ditch banks and deep into marshes. Remember: The nastier the weather, the deeper into cover the pheasant will go. But eventually, pheasants have to eat again. During the late afternoon, the birds move from their loafing spots back to the feeding areas. As in the

We are a municipal liquor store owned by the city of Braham. Why are we important? We are here to control the sale of alcohol and to generate income for our community. Supporting local communities is very important during these trying times, which we are all experiencing. Products and services we offer include: Beer, wine, liquor, ice, lottery tickets, cigarettes, roll-your-own products & tobacco, kegs, special orders, ATM and a whole lot more! We invite you to take part in our annual food drive for our local food shelf Oct. 1 thru Oct. 31. We also are hosting our annual fall tasting here at the store on Friday, Oct. 21 from 5-7:30pm. All are welcome! We employees take great pride in this store and are here to be of service to you. Responsibility, safety and support for the community is what matters. Cheers!

IN LOVING MEMORY OF SHELDON NASCENE 4-23-35 to 10-15-10
A year has passed since Sheldon, our caring and loving husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, left us to go to his home in Heaven. He enjoyed the beauty of each day but told us no one is guaranteed any certain number of years here. We treasure the precious memories and all the life lessons he taught us. We will never forget his words of wisdom such as, “The sun is always shining somewhere.” God has you in His keeping and we have you in our hearts. Sadly missed and loved forever by, LaVonne, Kevin, Sheryl, Kyle, Kim and families
THANK YOU A huge “thank you” goes out to Pastor Vicki VanderVegt, Jay Schueller, Caron Peters and Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. The “Music 4 Food” program was so good with great musicians; both on instruments and vocally. Many local individuals and groups of musicians participated. The audience was very appreciative of all the performers; the applause was ongoing. I was impressed with the number of participants that were interested in spending their Sunday afternoon in church! As an audience member and the Pine Community Food Shelf director, my appreciation for the entire event is extreme. There were many hands and hearts that put this event together. The pie makers and pie and ice cream servers did their jobs with enthusiasm. Through the generosity of all who had a part in the day, 344 pounds of food and $1,335.50 were gathered together for the food shelf. Thank you one and all! Julie Werner
THANK YOU Being a patient of the Fairview, Wyoming Hospital for one week, John would like to thank all who visited him, prayed, and sent cards and made calls for his recovery. A big thank you to Pastor Mike Flynn for personal visits and prayers. John continues to recover daily. His wife Darlene also thanks all the well-wishers and visitors and prayers sent while she, too, was a patient at Fairview, Wyoming Hospital for seven days. Bless the Lord that she is recovering from dangerous blood clots. All of your visits and calls were so appreciated. God bless all of you John and Darlene Armstrong
