OUR CHILDREN
VISION
There is no better reason for being a school board member.
EXPERIENCE
We are at a critical point in our school district. We have an opportunity to take a hard look at how we can best meet the needs of our students. My experience and leadership will help facilitate this discussion. How will we deliver educational services in the future? Vision is essential as things change. How do we want our schools to look in the next 10-20 years?
COMMON SENSE
Common sense is crucial to good decision making, even as we deal with complex issues.
SOLUTIONS
I will work to find the best solution for the students and taxpayers of our school district. “I believe our kids deserve nothing less!” I would appreciate your support Tuesday, November 6. Paid Advertisement. Prepared and paid for by Karen Kirschner, 2117 Grove St., Mora, MN 55051
What About Christ
You talk about your money, silver and gold. You talk about your lands, positions you hold. Successful I’m told in the eyes of the world, but what about Christ? You say you have your own religion, you’ve always believed. You try to live right, no plans to deceive, helping when you can in the eyes of the world, but what about Christ? I’m talking to you about Jesus and eternal life. Proclaiming good news and the record of love God has for you. And you boast of your ways, which seem so very right to you in the eyes of the world, but what about Christ? You say you were baptized as a little baby then. You went to Sunday School, confirmation at 10. You are a good person in the eyes of the world, but what about Christ? I think I can knowingly discern whether some one has been knowingly saved. I ask you again in the eyes of the world but what about Christ?
This is the time for the Holy Spirit to awaken you. The Word of God says Jesus is the only way. His blood was shed in love and the ransom paid in the eyes of the world, believe on Christ.
The righteousness of God comes only by faith, Justified by faith, you will have peace with God through the Lord Jesus Christ in the eyes of the world. Believe on Christ. Salvation by grace comes through faith. It’s not of yourself, not of works you can boast. It’s the gift of God in the eyes of the world. Believe on Christ. When you get saved. You rejoice in the hope of God’s glory. When you get saved. You stand in grace, the favor of God. When you get saved. You are justified by Jesus’ blood in the eyes of the world. Believe on Christ.

Fall & Winter Winter Auto Maintenance Checklist By Mathew Wright Winter is upon us, and winter driving comes with it. While safety is an important consideration all year long, there are certainly some auto maintenance jobs and safety checks that are specific to chilled air and winter driving that are a good idea to check into before we’re knee deep in the season. To be sure you don’t end up a road popsicle, or even worse end up with your holiday budget on ice thanks to unexpected repairs, have a look under the hood to be sure things are ship shape. As with any change of season, you should go to your regular maintenance log to make sure you are up to date on the maintenance items that should be taken care of throughout the year. The change of seasons is a great time to go through some once-a-year or twice-ayear auto maintenance tasks. Winter Specific Maintenance In addition to the added perils of winter driving, the change in weather can bring peril to your car’s systems. Freezing temps, salted roads and wintery precipitation can gang up on your car if you don’t give it a baseball-bat sized maintenance session. These winter maintenance jobs will keep you out of trouble:
Check your windshield washer fluid You’ll be using lots of washer fluid as you try to keep your windshield sparkly. A mile stuck behind an 18-wheeler will have your windshield looking like a Desert Humvee if you’re low on washer fluid. *Tip: Don’t fill your washer fluid reservoir with anything except washer fluid, it won’t freeze! Annual Maintenance Procedures On top of the checks you need to perform to ensure safe winter driving, now’s a good time to do some annual maintenance. These aren’t necessarily specific to winter driving, but it’s a good point on the calendar to get around to doing this stuff.

Inspect your spark plug wires Cracked up plug wires affect performance, gas mileage and general reliability. Be sure yours are in top shape. Inspect your brakes Brakes are not a good area to cut corners. Be sure your brakes have enough meat left to get you through the season. Check Your Engine Oil This should go without saying and should be done at least monthly. But in case you’re an amnesiac ... you should also do an oil change! Cold weather safety should be a concern for anybody living in a cold climate. These tips will give you the upper hand when Old Man Winter tries to put a chill on your winter travels.

Inspect your tires The last line of defense between you and an oak tree are your tires. Winter is not the time to get cheap about your tires, so take the time to check the tread depth. The National Highway Transportation Safety Board says you need at least 2/32" of depth to be safe. It’s been my experience, especially in winter weather, that anything less than 4/32" (1/8") be replaced soon. The old penny test is as reliable as anything to find out whether your treads are ready for winter action. Also, be sure to check your tire pressure. Believe it or not, they lose a little pressure when it gets cold, so pump ‘em up. Do you need snow tires?

Check your antifreeze Your antifreeze (the juice that goes in your radiator) is an essential part of your car’s winter protection. Your car contains a 50/50 mix of water and antifreeze. Make sure the level is full and the mixture is close to 50/50. Many auto service stations and repair centers will check this mixture free, or you can buy a tester for around $5. You did remember to perform a radiator flush last spring, didn’t you?
Replace your wipers Wipers? What do your windshield wipers have to do with winter weather? Two things. First, anything falling from the sky is going to end up on your windshield, and unless you have a team of beavers riding on the hood of your car the task of clearing it falls on your wipers. Second, in areas that see snowfall in the winter, you’re also driving through that soupy muck that’s left on the road once the highway department does their thing. This muck includes a lot of sand and salt, both of which end up on your windshield. It takes wipers that are in top shape to keep your windshield clean and safe.

Fall Tire Safety Tips - Quick & Easy Vital for Safety By Aaron Gold Tires are one of the most important – and oft-overlooked – components of our cars. Tires are the only thing that attach our cars to the road, and tire problems affect your car’s ride comfort, handling and safety. Here are some simple tire safety tips to help keep you and your car’s occupants safe. Check your tire pressure regularly. Tires tend to lose air over time. Buy a digital tire gauge and check your tires once a month and before a long trip. Proper inflation pressures can be found in your owner’s manual or on a sticker on the car (usually on the driver’s doorjamb or fuel-filler lid. Remember to check tire pressure only after the car has been sitting for several hours in order to ensure that the tires are cold – the friction of driving heats the tires and increases pressure, which can hide an under-inflated tire.
Address under-inflated tires immediately. An under-inflated tire has more rolling resistance, which increases fuel consumption. It also creates more heat, which can lead to tire failure.
at once, but at the very least they should be bought as axle pairs (both fronts or both rears). Rotating your tires every 5,000 to 7,000 miles will help ensure that all four tires wear at the same rate.
Don’t forget the spare. Getting a flat tire and discovering that your spare is also flat is a miserable experience. Inspect your spare as you would your other tires. If you have a compact spare, the inflation pressure will usually be written on the tire. If your car comes with a compressor and/or flat repair kit in lieu of a spare, check their operation regularly.
Check for even wear. When you check tread depth, check both the inside and outside edge of the tires. Uneven tire wear is usually a sign that your car is out of alignment. Proper alignment optimizes handling and helps prevent premature tire wear.
Check for tread depth. Check tread depth by placing the edge of a penny upside-down into the grooves of the tire’s tread. (Photo here.) If you can see all of Lincoln’s head, it’s time for a new set of tires. Never buy a single tire – it’s best to replace all four tires
Look for tire damage. When you check pressure, inspect the sides of the tires for nicks, bulges, cracks and cuts. Such damage often cannot be repaired and will require replacement of the tire. Stay balanced. If your car develops a shimmy (a back-and-forth vibration, usually felt through the steering wheel) at a certain speed, it’s possible that one of your tires has
lost its balance weight. Having your tires re-balanced is a fairly inexpensive job. Buy the right tire for the job. Most cars come with all-season tires, the tire equivalent of a jack-of-all-trades. If you live in the rust belt, consider a set of dedicated snow tires for the winter; they do wonders for safety. And most importantly: Never hesitate to replace a worn or damaged tire. Tires are not cheap, but they are vital to the safety of you and your car’s occupants. Remember, the tires are the only thing that connect your car to the road. Advanced safety features such as antilock brakes and electronic stability control can’t do their life-saving jobs without four good tires. Take care of your tires – because whether you know it or not, you’re counting on them to take care of you.
How to Store Your Classic Car to Preserve Its Value
By, Tony & Michele Hamer For a car, inactivity can be as deteriorating as it is for human beings. Damage of nearly every kind can occur from just sitting. Rubber can rot, upholstery can mildew, metal can rust, precision-fit internal engine parts can seize, wiring can short circuit, paint can blister, fiberglass can crack, chrome can pit, brakes can lock up, and batteries can go dead. Here’s how to prevent this from happening to you. Here’s How:
car a good wax and don’t buff off chromed surfaces until you’re ready to remove the car from storage. Lubricate all rubber and vacuum and clean the upholstery; you don’t want any hidden food crumbs that might entice critters.
Give your classic a good detailing. Wash all road grime and salts from the undercarriage as well as body parts. Give the entire

Once you have your classic parked for the winter, change or drain fluids. Try to drain the fluids while the car is still warm. Oil, in particular, when it is heated and circulating, picks up and emulsifies chemical contaminants and particles. Just be careful and wear gloves; hot engine oil can cause painful burns.

Carefully fill the universal joints with fresh grease, if your car have lube fittings. Pack the front wheel bearings and apply clean grease on all of the steering and suspension fittings. Bleed the brake system. The best insurance against break deterioration is to drain your system of old fluid and refill

between each one and cover.
Drain the fuel tank if you are going to store your car for more than six months. Once you have drained the tank, start the engine and run the rest of the gas out of the lines. Old gas will clog carburetors and cause valves to hang up. If you are only going to be storing your car for a few months you can add a can of gasoline stabilizer to delay fuel deterioration.
Depress the clutch and lock it in position with a 2 x 4 pressed against the clutch and the front of the seat cushion or seat frame. Clutch plates often stick together in storage.
Drain the cooling system completely and leave the petcock open and the radiator cap off so air can circulate. Disconnect the heater hoses and drain the heater too. With all of the car’s fluids drained at this point you should contact your local household and hazardous waste service for proper disposal. Remove the battery and store it carefully if you want it to survive. Wash it down with a solution of water and baking soda, then top it off with distilled water. Store it on a shelf in a dry place, not on concrete. Raise the car and place jack stands under the suspension points. Remove the tires and stack them in a corner placing cardboard
Before you encase your classic in its winter cocoon, the last things to do are; Roll down your windows to allow for circulation, Place opened boxes of baking soda in various places to absorb moisture, Put a plastic bag over the carburetor to keep moisture out, stuff an old rag up the tailpipe to keep vermin out. Now you can cover up your classic car. The most important consideration when choosing a cover for your car’s winter nap is selecting the right kind of fabric for your specific storage application. Cotton flannel fabrics breathe and allow air to circulate through them as well as being soft and easy on your cars paint and wax. Cotton/polyester fabrics have poor fluid resistance and trap heat and moisture. Plastic films should be avoided because they don’t breathe.

Fall Make an Auto Safety Kit - Winter Driving By Rachelle Oblack One of the main points to remember is where you need a disaster kit. Although a lot of people keep a severe weather kit at home, many do not realize the importance of keeping another disaster kit in the car. Since most people spend a large portion of their time away from home or in their cars, it is vital to have secondary disaster kits in the event of an emergency. Plan your travel and check the latest weather reports to avoid a storm! You should always know the weather conditions before you get in a car. It could save your life! Keep the following items in the trunk or back seat of your car this winter... Difficulty: Easy Time Required: 15 minutes
Here’s How: 1) You can purchase a pre-made car weather safety kit or build your own. Even if you decide to purchase a kit, be sure you are familiar with the contents! Learn to use all of the supplies in the kit! When you are freezing cold, and possibly wet, you will NOT want to look at the directions on a bottle.
7) Sack of sand (or cat litter) for tire traction and a shovel.
2) Get blankets or sleeping bags such as a space blanket.
9) A compass and road maps.
sanitary purposes plus a smaller can and water-proof matches to melt snow for drinking water.
8) An auto emergency tool kit Kits should include tow ropes, windshield scrapers, jumper (booster) cables, and a first-aid kit. 10) You may also want to bring along a winter safety handbook.
3) Flashlight with extra batteries. (There are even self-charging flashlights with cell phone chargers.) 4) You absolutely need an auto first-aid kit.
11) Extra clothing to keep dry for all of the vehicle occupants. Tips: 1) Keep your gas tank near full to avoid ice in the tank and fuel lines.
5) A knife and some high-calorie, non-perishable food. 6) A large empty can and plastic cover with tissues and paper towels for
AUTUMN Start with a couple of pre-emptive strikes. • Get the car waxed at the end of autumn, before the first snowfall. • Buy a set of heavy rubber floor mats. WINTER - Time to go into full rust-fighting mode! • Keep the floors clean. Snow on your shoes melts into salty water that can seep into the carpets and cause the floorboards to rust. Install those heavy rubber floor mats you bought. When you get into the car, kick your feet against the door sill to knock off any extra snow. • After driving, kick off any snow and slush stuck to the body-
• When the temperature is below freezing, do not wash your car. The ice and snow will hold the salt in suspension and keep it from doing any major damage. • As soon as the temp climbs above freezing, take the car to a car wash that has an underbody spray. Be sure the car wash uses fresh and not recycled water, otherwise you’re just having salt from other cars sprayed onto yours. If the temperature stays up, wash the car weekly. • Park outside. A warm garage melts the snow and ice stuck to your car and allows the embedded salt to start its destructive work on your car’s body. (If cold-weather starting is a problem, buy and install an engine block heater and plug the car in at night.) SPRING When the snow is gone for good, check your car for signs of rust. Remember, once rust starts, it only gets worse, so consider having a competent body shop repair any rust spots. Enjoy the summer, and get ready to do battle again next year!

One final note about automobile safety kits…No kit can fully prepare you for a winter driving season and all of the contingencies that could arise as a result of a sudden change in weather patterns. Because preparation is the key, make sure that you think about the individuals you will be protecting in your car or truck. Each may have their own needs. It is a better idea to pack extra of the supplies needed than to be stranded without the proper equipment.

I know people are tired of partisan bickering, and we deserve legislators who are willing to work across party lines with compromise for common sense solutions. A thousand + times we needed you. A thousand + times we cried. If love alone could have saved you, you never would have died. A heart of gold stopped beating, Your loving smile, no more, two twinkling eyes closed to rest. God broke our hearts to prove He only took the best. Never a day goes by that you’re not in my heart and my soul. Sadly missed, till we meet again! We appreciate the guidance by the staff of the Swanson Funeral Home, as well as the kindness and compassion they showed to us. May God bless everyone who comforted us in some way as we mourn the passing of our beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She will remain forever in our hearts. WWW.MORACHEVBUICK.COM We offer you highly skilled factory-trained technicians, utilizing the most current diagnostic & repair equipment available. We will deliver efficient, quality care with our guaranteed customer satisfaction!
Keith Halvorson
Our Certified Service Technicians:
If you have ever called Mora Chevrolet Buick for a repair, you have probably spoken to Keith, the face of the service center. He’ll take your call, set up an appointment and discuss and schedule your repairs. When it’s all said and done, he’s the one to hand you the keys and send you on your way. Born and raised in Mora, Keith began his career at Mora Chevrolet Buick as a mechanic 20 years ago. He has an extensive background working with Chevrolet and all General Motors vehicles. Like all Mora Chevrolet Buick service staff, he is a certified GM mechanic and certified by the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence.
Tom Cleveland Service Manager at Mora Chevrolet Buick, Tom has 23 years of experience in the automotive service industry. He will work with you to iron out the warranty details, cost and customer satisfaction. Tom said he was drawn to Mora by its friendly feel and small town feel. “You get to know your customers here by name, not just a number,” he said. “It’s easier and better at Mora Chevrolet. The community knows us, our technicians and we know their expectations and if we don’t fix it right, you know we’re going to hear about it at the grocery store or at church.”
Tim Thompson When you see that pesky “check engine soon” image light up on your dash, bring your vehicle in to Tim, a drivability specialist. Tim has 26 years of General Motors experience, 18 of those at Mora Chevrolet Buick. Tim is particularly skilled at communicating with your vehicle’s technology to find out exactly why that little orange light came on. “You bring a car in that has a drivability, shifting or any other issue, we’ll fix it as fast and efficiently as we can,” he said.
Mike Peterson With 25 years of experience, three at Mora Chevrolet Buick, his customers have begun to recognize his good work and request him at the shop. When Mike says he works on all makes and models, he really means ALL makes and models. One customer recently brought in his International Harvester tractor for a repair. “That’s the reason people come here,” he said. “They trust that we’re going to be fair and fix it right. Two words sum it up: trust and honesty.”
Jake Kaminsky Jake is his name and oil is his game. A Mora resident, Jake has been working with Mora Chevrolet Buick as a lubricant specialist for two years. Jake said the best thing about bringing your vehicle to Mora Chevrolet Buick is the high quality work you will receive with specialized tools and extensive training. “You get what you pay for when you bring your car to a dealership. You’re going to get a higher quality repair,” said Jake. “Customers often come to us after they brought their car to another shop and it didn’t get fixed.” said Jake.
Walt Schwartz With 37 years of experience, Walt has your vehicle covered bumper to bumper. “You never know what you’re going to be working on back there,” he said. From tuneups to transmission overhauls, and everything in between, he has the know how to get it done. “We always try to be up-front and honest with the customers. That’s a big thing in this industry and we work to earn their trust,” said Walt.
Charlie Ilstrup If your vehicle is making a strange noise you can’t quite put your finger on, Charlie is on the job. With 35 years of experience, 17 years at Mora Chevrolet Buick, Charlie is a suspension, brake and alignment specialist with a highly-trained ear to pick out all those little squeaks and hums. If he can’t fix it, nobody can. “If that is the case,” he joked, “I’ll at least teach you how to turn up the radio and tune it out.”“I have confidence in the guys I work with, and what they do,” said Charlie. “We know how the customers feel, and if we make a mistake they can trust that we will correct it.”
