LICENSING INFORMATION

• November 7: Statewide (A) Firearms opening date. • November 21: Late Southeast (B) Firearms opening date. • November 28: Muzzle loader opening date. • November 5: Firearms Deer opening date for 2016.

Regular firearm license—there are two types of regular firearms deer licenses: • Statewide (A) season licenses are valid in any area that opens November 7. Hunters are not obligated to stay in any one zone. For example, you can hunt in deer area 346 (9-day season) opening weekend, move to deer area 235 (9-day season) the second weekend, and finish up your season in 184 (16-day season) on the last weekend. • Late southeast (B) licenses are valid only in late southeast (B) area and season (November 21–29). The hunter’s season choice will be printed on the license. • Both statewide (A) and late southeast (B) season licenses are valid in the metro (601) area.

A hunter may tag one legal buck per year, without exception. Although hunters can buy all three licenses, the bag limits may not allow all three tags to be filled in a single deer area. It is the hunter’s responsibility to know the bag limit for the areas they hunt. The statewide bag limit for deer is five. Deer harvested in special hunts do not contribute to the bag limit within the surrounding deer permit area; however, they do contribute to the statewide limit.

A deer license purchased before legal shooting hours begin is valid when the season opens. • Residents of veterans’ homes may take deer of either sex regardless of permit area designation during the firearms and muzzle loader seasons. • Residents who are 84 or older may take deer of either sex regardless of permit area designation during any deer season. • Hunters age 60 and over may use a magnifying scope during the muzzle loader deer season. • An early antlerless season will be held throughout permit areas 346 and 349. DEER HUNTING FIREARM OPENER NOVEMBER 7 I purchased the wrong deer license, can I change it? Yes. A person who has purchased a regular firearm deer license and wishes to change their season option (A or B) must submit their original license and tags (must be unused). There is a fee of $5 (plus a $1 issuing fee). Replacement licenses are available from any ELS license agent. The license must be issued before the season opens. • Youth hunters may also change from a regular firearms deer license to a youth deer license, if they purchased the incorrect license. • Archery licenses may be changed to firearm or muzzle loader licenses prior to the beginning of archery season. • Regular firearm licenses may be changed to a muzzle loader or archery license prior to the beginning of the firearm season.

What if I lose or can’t find my license? You can go to any license agent and have them print a duplicate license. The fee is $5.75 for a Big Game License and $2.50 for all others.

Can I get a refund if I can’t hunt? Generally, license sales are final. A refund can only be issued if the licensee is unable to participate due to active military duty, cancelled military leave or death prior to opening of the season. You may also request a refund if: • You bought two licenses for the same season. • You bought a license that wasn’t required to participate in the activity. • You can prove that your license was issued incorrectly by the agent. The request for a refund must be received within 90 days of the original license purchase.

Large Hunting/Shooting Accesory Inventory.

Do I need to wear blaze orange during deer season? The visible portion of at least one item of a cap and one item of outer clothing above the waist, excluding sleeves and gloves, must be blaze orange when hunting or trapping during any open season where deer may be taken by firearms (including special hunts, early antlerless, youth seasons and muzzle loader)

TRESPASS LAW The trespass law applies to all outdoor recreation, including: hunting, boating, fishing, trapping, hiking, and camping. When taking part in any outdoor recreation, you may not enter legally posted land or agricultural land without permission. Landowners, lessees, or authorized managers need only post their land once a year. The signs must be placed at intervals of 1,000 feet (500 feet in wooded areas) or signs may be placed at primary corners of each parcel and at access points to the property. Signs must state “No Trespassing,” or similar words, in 2-inch high letters and have either the signature or the name and telephone number of the landowner, lessee, or manager. There can be civil or criminal penalties for violation of the trespass laws with maximum fines up to $3,000 and license revocation. All conservation officers and peace officers enforce trespass laws.

Registration Every deer taken must be registered and antlers must remain attached until the deer is registered. In all cases, the deer must be registered within 48 hours after the deer was taken and before the deer is processed either privately or commercially. Deer may be transported out of the area where taken without first being registered.

SNG Services Gunsmithing & Tool Sharpening

SNG Services is a gunsmith service, licensed firearms dealer, and full-service tool sharpening shop located just south of Mora, Minnesota. Owned and operated by Kanabec County resident Shawn Paul, SNG Services is a local company with a nationwide footprint. One of a few full-time gunsmiths in Minnesota, Paul has worked in gunsmithing since the 1980s. He likens the workings of a firearm to those of a vehicle. You bring your car to a professional mechanic when the transmission needs to be rebuilt, he says; and when a firearm needs service or repair, you should seek out the same level of care and expertise. As an experienced firearms mechanic with 30 years’ experience, Paul provides a level of excellence that can’t be found many other places.

SNG Services • Repair and customization of firearms • Sale of new and used firearms

Paul has a nationwide reputation, and is often consulted by firearms professionals across the country to fix and solve problems. He raised his family in the Mora area, however, and is committed to serving the community long-term. He treats customers as friends, and shows the same care for their firearms that he does for his own. Paul values his reputation and guarantees his work, believing that “if it can’t be done right it shouldn’t be done at all.” SNG Services also provides tool-sharpening services. From drill bits to lawnmower blades to scissors and knives, Paul can hone just about anything with a blade. “I can sharpen everything but your wit!” he laughs.

• Consignment sales • Insurance appraisalss • Sporting goods • Ammo sales • Hunting equipment and accessories • Large in-shop inventory

If you own a gun that hasn’t been fired in a while or needs repair, bring it to SNG Services for a full cleaning, inspection, and test fire.

• Firearms transfers • Pre- and post-season cleanings and safety checks • Full line of sharpening services for home & commercial users • All work guaranteed

Come in as a Customer... Leave as a Friend! Business Hours: Mon. - Fri. 8am-5:30pm, Sat. 8am-5pm
