SEEKING APPLICANTS TO SERVE ON KANABEC COUNTY BOARDS AND COMMITTEES The Commissioners of Kanabec County are seeking applicants to serve on Kanabec County Boards and Committees: Board of Adjustment. Collects information and conducts public hearings on variance requests pertaining to shoreline regulations as defined by the Kanabec County Shoreline Ordinance. There is one opening for this board for an alternate member. City/County Airport Zoning Board. This board is designated under state statute and consists of members appointed by the City of Mora and the county. The board meets to make, revise and approve airport zoning. There is one opening for this board. Economic Development Authority. Serves as an Economic Development Authority Advisory Board pursuant to Minnesota Statutes and its affairs shall include, but not be limited to, encouraging and promoting commercial and industrial growth and development, housing, and redevelopment in the County of Kanabec. There are three openings on this board; two city representatives and one township elected official. Emergency Medical Services Board Advisory Committee - Alternate Evaluates the money that is available to the Emergency Medical Services for training and advises the executive board on how it should be spent. There are two openings for an alternate position on this board. Health & Human Services Advisory Committee. Pursuant to MN Statute 402.03 this advisory committee shall actively participate in the formulation of the plan for the development, implementation and operation of the programs and services by the board, and shall make a formal recommendation to the board at least annually concerning the annual budget and implementation of the plan in the ensuing year. There are three citizen openings for this board. Personnel Board of Appeals. Meets upon call to hear the filing of an appeal by an applicant for county job or a county employee concerning discrimination practices, alleged arbitrary capricious action on the part of the County Board with respect to rules included in the Act, or other matters or grievances under the authority of this Act (M.S. §375.65 & 375.66). There is one opening for this board. Planning Commission. Reviews proposed plats and makes recommendations to the County Board concerning implementation of the Kanabec County subdivision and Platting Ordinance. Periodically, the Planning Commission review existing County Ordinances and makes recommendations to the County Board regarding changes. There are three openings for this board; two at large members and one member from the Board of Adjustment. Railroad Authority Advisory Committee. Advise the Railroad Authority Board of interests and recommendations of the use of the railroad bed. There are three openings on this board; one at-large member, one member from Whited Township and one member from the City of Quamba. Water Plan Board. This person will advise the Water Plan Committee on how the water plan funds should be spent. There is one opening on this board. All applicants should be Kanabec County residents. East Central Energy approves fiber internet project STAFF REPORT NEWS@MORAMINN.COM

Area residents frustrated with not having high-speed internet access may have a solution in the not-so distant future. The East Central Energy Board of Directors voted on Nov. 19, 2021, to move forward with develop-

ing a plan for a full-fiber-tothe-home project. A completed feasibility study has indicated that, with the appropriate funding from grants and other sources, it is reasonable for ECE to provide fiber throughout its service territory. ECE will be spending

the next few months putting together a comprehensive plan for the businesses and residents in its 14-county service territory. Upon completion, the board will make a final determination on the overall project. The plan will be designed based on fiber only and will lay

out a phased approach for a project that could cost as much as $300 million. “As many of you know, electric cooperatives have helped solve the broadband problem across the nation and have been successful ECE
