This letter is in relation to my experience with Steve Forner. I began serving on the North Branch City Council in the year 2000 and continued to serve in that capacity until 2008 when I was elected as Mayor of North Branch, completing two terms as Mayor through the end of 2012. I spent almost my entire life in the North Branch area, so my experiences with Steve go far beyond just being on the NB City Council.

I’ve always known Steve to be a compassionate, understanding person. As a licensed police officer, he displayed a demeanor of professionalism and fair justice. My experiences with Steve have always been positive; he is hard working, self motivated, respectful and has a knack for dealing with all kinds of people and situations. Steve began working for the City of North Branch in 1983 and worked in patrol until 2007 when the North Branch City Council appointed him as Police Chief. That appointment was made with confidence that Steve would be an asset to the City in the position of Chief. Steve is well respected in the community of North Branch. He ran a highly skilled police department, which as the previous Mayor and Council member, I was proud of. As Chief, it was evident that he worked hard to meet the demands of public safety while under the financial constraints that the Council had put on all departments in order for us to remain fiscally responsible. In 2010, the City Council of North Branch offered a voluntary retirement severance package to all City employees. Steve was one of the employees that opted to take that offer. Through offering these voluntary severance packages, I knew that the City would lose valuable, long-term employees, but as Mayor, I was always supportive of their personal decision on the matter and wished nothing but the best for each of them in their future endeavors. My wish for Steve’s success in his future endeavors continues to this day.

Hello, My name is Ron Rollins. I am 52 years old and a resident of Lent Township. I graduated from North Branch High School in 1980. I obtained a U.S. Military Police School Certificate in 1981 and was Honorably Discharged in 1984. I attended Century College and obtained an AAS degree in Law Enforcement in 1998. I am currently employed as a Police Officer with the North Branch Police Department. I am trained in the following:

I would like to see the deputies to be able to create relationships with their own communities and build trust outside of the crisis environment. I would like to see young officers not only be successful in their careers, but also want them to learn respect and empathy for people in many situations. I believe in not only training officers, but mentoring them. I want to change some current policies that are not cost effective and do not make sense for our county. I want to see more officers on the street and not in the office.

Experience and background that prepares me for this position: I bring to the table law enforcement experience from all levels of government: local, county, state, and federal experience as well. I have served this county the majority of my life as an officer and cadet, dispatcher, jailer, and transport officer for the sheriff ’s department. The other candidates have not. As the only military veteran, I learned respect and authority at an early age. And how to use and not abuse the authority given to me. I am the most well-rounded candidate for this position. My experience is in a rural community, and I understand the needs here.

Top three issues facing the Sheriff’s Office, and resolve: 1) Our tri-county Drug Task Force is making strides in the county but I feel that the drug problem still is abundant. We have one of the largest drug and alcohol treatment facilities in the county. I will work to partner with them and other groups to try and create a bridge for the chemically dependent from arrest to treatment. 2) I will bring the sheriff ’s department back to the communities through community outreach and attending events in our neighborhoods. Through my years as an officer I have found that relationships, no matter how brief, make a difference. 3) The third is a hot button- the county jail. I have heard a lot from the public about the jail. It is a concern for all with either higher taxes or inadequate housing. I would like to form a community task force consisting of citizens of the county, law enforcement, corrections personnel, and other relevant stake holders to learn, and make recommendations on jail issues, to determine what the best use of taxpayer money is. No jail, a remodel of the current jail, a whole new facility on a smaller scale? What is the best situation for our inmates, jail staff, deputies, and citizens? I would be reluctant to put the jail on a referendum without re-evaluating what state mandates may be in place and what is the most cost effective approach. This will then give the citizens options if it comes to a vote.

Location: Morning and afternoon Mustang Care will be held at the Fairview Elementary School in the cafeteria/gym. Students in grades 3-6 will be transported by bus each day in the morning from Fairview Elementary to Trailview Elementary and again after school from Trailview to Fairview.

Mora Preschool Program provides developmentally appropriate experiences that promote the social, emotional, cognitive, and creative development of each child in the program. We believe that children learn best through play-based activities that follow along with our Houghton Mifflin Curriculum.

Fairview (Gr. K-2) — 4-6 P.M. Trailview (Gr. 3-6) — 4:30-6:30 P.M. High School (Gr. 7-12) — Starting at 4 P.M.

Registration: If you would like your child(ren) to participate in the Mustang Care program, stop at Fairview, or you may call 320-679-6260.

Preschool Options for children who are 3 by September 1, 2015:

Fees: $2.75/hr per child. A late fee of $2.75 per every 15 minutes will be charged for any family picking up their child(ren) after 6 p.m. If you attend Mustang Care on a regular basis, you must pay each Friday. If you only attend occasionally, you must pay at the end of that day. You may also make payments online by going to the school web store, for more information call Julie at 320-679-6200.

In the Mustang Care program, we provide a home-like atmosphere where the focus is placed on the needs of the child grades K-6. Children have the opportunity to choose from a variety of activities, including sports, arts and crafts, puzzles, games and movies. Quiet areas are also available for homework and reading. Hours:

In the event Mora Public Schools closes early, there will be no afternoon Mustang Care. Please note: It is the responsibility of the parent to have other arrangements on file in the elementary school office for the child/children when Mustang Care is cancelled due to an early closing. Mustang Care observes Mora Public Schools emergency closings on the school website (www.mora.k12.mn.us) and is announced on the following radio stations: WCCO Radio 830 AM, WCMP 1350 AM or 100.9 FM. EARLY CHILDHOOD SCREENING Preschool screening is a REQUIREMENT for kindergarten enrollment. Mora Schools works with Kanabec County Public Health Nursing Services, Early Childhood Teachers, and our dedicated screening volunteers to offer parents a comprehensive screening program. The screening program includes the following assessments: • Height and weight • Hearing and vision screening • Speech and language screening • Developmental screening • Review of community resources • Social-emotional screening • Review of immunizations and health history • Family factors inventory

• Summary interview All children residing in the Mora School District are eligible to participate in the screening. This screening is provided to families in our district at no charge to the family. Families do have the option of obtaining comparable developmental screening through other sources (such as Head Start, public health nursing agencies or other school districts), but costs incurred are then the family’s responsibility. Families can also waive the required developmental screening by providing the district with a signed statement identifying that they are conscientiously opposed to having their child participate in the screening. Parents are contacted by the school regarding the availability of preschool screening. If your child is 4 years of age

or older and you have not been contacted please call Carrie or Vicki at 320-679-6257 to schedule your child’s screening. If you have question regarding the screening program, please call the screening coordinator, Carrie Sell at 320-679-6257.
