Attention Substitute Teachers & Substitute Paraprofessionals! Mora Schools Needs You!! Certified educators and/or people interested in substitute teaching (K-12, ALC) and/or substituting as paraprofessionals in the Mora School District are invited to attend an informational meeting to be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2015:

2-3:30 p.m. Mora High School Media Center 3:30-5:00 p.m. Optional Break Out Sessions (Choose HS updates, elementary updates, and technology) **Those in attendance will get 2 appreciation gifts and get paid for their attendance at the training after their first day of subbing. Remember that the substitute teacher rate of pay was increased last year to $110.** The Minnesota Legislature, recognizing the shortage of teachers in our state, provides a procedure for people holding four-year college degrees (BA or higher) whereby they may apply for “Limited Licensure”. Completion of this procedure through the state department provides a person with the licensure necessary to serve as a short-call substitute teacher in Minnesota schools whether or not (s)he has a teaching degree. At the meeting August 12, you will receive information regarding District policies and procedures. All building principals will be on hand to respond to any questions or concerns you may have. We encourage all prospective substitute teachers and prospective substitute paraprofessionals to attend this informational meeting – don’t forget to bring along a copy of your current licenses or certificates! If you cannot attend the workshop, or have other concerns, please call the District Office, 6796200, for information or assistance.

Mora Public Schools

District Wide New Student Registration Information Welcome to Mora Public Schools! New student registration is just around the corner, so mark your calendar for August 11 & 12, 2015 from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for grades 7-11 at the High School. If registering a student PreK to 6th grade please contact the prospective elementary school for summer office hours. In Mora Public Schools, the registration process is important not to miss out on! Any students new to the Mora District are asked to register on these days so they can receive individualized attention and all their questions can be answered. Registration can be done at the main office of the prospective school your child will be attending; waiting until Open House to register makes it difficult to get student records and information in time to start on the first day of school.

AUG. 13 MAGNIFICENT RED HATTERS On Thursday, Aug. 13 the Magnificent Red Hatters will meet at 11:30 a.m. at the Grumpy Minnow, 485 Acacia Way on West Rush Lake, and order lunch off the menu. RSVP (by Aug. 8) to Connie Lewis, 320-629-7024, or Pat Waggoner, 320-629-6255. Friends are always welcome.

If you would prefer to expedite your student’s registration process, enrollment forms are available on the school website (www.moraschools.org) under “Parent/Student Services” then “Central Registration”. Parents/guardians be sure you accompany your new students when registering as they can’t register without you. In addition, please provide the office with a copy of the student’s birth certificate as it is required by state law to show proof of age.

AUG. 14 PCFTA GALLERY EXHIBIT Pine Center for the Arts’ next gallery exhibit, set to open on Friday, Aug. 14 will feature the work of Pine City’s local artists. Select past gallery artists, as well as Art Center members, are invited to take part. For more information contact PCft A by email at info@ pinecenter.org or leave a message at 320.629.4924; messages are only checked on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Also, don’t forget if you have a Kindergarten student to register, we don’t want them to miss out on our KinderKamp, so please be sure to register your Kindergartner for that as well. KinderKamp is August 10, 11 and 12 (Two sessions, 9:30-11:30 a.m. & 5:30-7:30 p.m.) Additional registration is required.

For questions or more information please go online at www.moraschools.org or call: Mora High School (Grades 7-12) 320-679-6220 Trailview Elementary (Grades 3-6) 320-679-6240 Fairview Elementary (PreK–grade 2) 320-679-6260

It’s time to say two words our legislators rarely hear:

Thank you. State Senator Tony Lourey’s efforts were crucial for passing historic senior care legislation in the 2015 session. Because of this work, soon the payment rates set by the state will better cover the actual cost of senior care. Families will have more care options for their loved ones, and we can recruit and retain the caregivers we need for the future. Sixty-thousand Minnesotans will turn 65 this year, and we’ll have 60,000 more next year and every year through at least 2030. With a senior population that is doubling as baby boomers move into retirement, Minnesota needs to change how we think about care for our rapidly growing senior population. This reform helps ensure that Minnesota seniors will get high-quality care in a welcoming place close to their loved ones today—and tomorrow. When you see Senator Lourey this summer, thank him for caring for our seniors— and making all of our lives a little bit better.

Find out more about what you can do to face aging in your family and community at FaceAgingMN.org

Paid for by Care Providers of Minnesota and LeadingAge Minnesota, as part of the Long-Term Care Imperative.
