**Those in attendance will get 2 appreciation gifts and get paid for their attendance at the training after their first day of subbing. Remember that the substitute teacher rate of pay was increased last year to $110.** The Minnesota Legislature, recognizing the shortage of teachers in our state, provides a procedure for people holding four year college degrees (BA or higher) whereby they may apply for “Limited Licensure”. Completion of this procedure through the state department provides a person with the licensure necessary to serve as a short-call substitute teacher in Minnesota schools whether or not (s)he has a teaching degree. At the meeting August 13th, you will receive information regarding District policies and procedures. All building principals will be on hand to respond to any questions or concerns you may have. We encourage all prospective substitute teachers and prospective substitute paraprofessionals to attend this informational meeting – don’t forget to bring along a copy of your current licenses or certificates!

JAMES A. COLE James Alan Cole of Mora, formerly of rural Isle, died on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at his home. He was 76 years old. He was born on a small farm in Hillman Township on June 23, 1938, the fourth son of Charles Cyrus and Mae (Durant) Cole. He attended grade school in Warman and graduated from Mora High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Edna (Lakeberg) Cole on May 31, 1957 at the Mora Methodist Church. They made their home in Mora until their purchase of acreage on Pine Grove Farm north of Mora in 1958. In 1974 they built a home on the Lakeberg family farm moving there in August of that year. They resided there until their recent move to Mora. His earliest work experience was hauling cans of milk with Clinton Bassett and brothers, Kip and Earl, and working with his dad hauling livestock to St. Paul. After graduation he began working at the Farmer’s Co-op Creamery and Drying Plant (later known as Lakeland Dairies) and then Land O’Lakes Ice Cream in 1970. With the closing of that plant in 1991, he started growing his beard which was to stay with him from then on. He was employed at Daneco which ran the Five-County composting and recycling facility until that closure in 1994. After a brief time at Spring Lake Plastics in Cambridge, he resigned to devote full time to his Noah’s Ark-themed craft business. Fostering a carefully planned image as Noah, he delighted in demonstrating his puzzle ark to children of all ages at craft shows in several states. Over the years he was a very active member of the Mora Jaycees and the Mora Conservation Club. He served on the boards for the Brighter Day Activity Center and Senior Citizen Center. He was also involved in Boy Scouts and 4-H and he and and his wife were foster parents for several youth and babies.

Upon retiring from the craft circuit in 2002, he became even more active in his community serving as a first responder for the McGrath area and Kanabec County, the Kanabec County Sheriff ’s Reserve, Ford Township Planning Commission and many positions on the Mora United Methodist Church board. He enjoyed recording and submitting Ford Township’s weather data to the state of Minnesota. He was the driving force behind the annual reunions of his high school graduation class and loved doing that. His years as a local Santa were very special to him also. He dearly loved his family – his wife, his children and grandchildren. He delighted in cheering on his grandkids at all their school activities, especially cross country. A special ‘borrowed cousin’, nieces, nephews and their families were all very special to him. He loved his daylilies – always insisting on planting in ‘groups of one’ so he could have more varieties. He loved cutting wood and doing any and all outside chores on the farm. While he quit hunting deer, he never tired of watching them – even when they were eating his beloved daylilies. His many dogs were a source of great joy. He loved to read and his Kindle was his constant companion. He enjoyed the fellowship while working on repair and maintenance projects at his church. He always greeted everyone with a smile and a big hug. He was preceded in death by parents, Cy and Mae Cole; brothers, Clifford ‘Kip’ Cole, Earl Cole and Robert Cole. He is survived by wife, Edna; daughters, Judy (Todd Lerbakken) Cole of Blaine and Sue (Dan) Headlee of Pequot Lakes; grandchildren, Jacob, Sam, and Elsa Headlee; sisters-in-law, Leoda Cole, Sonja Cole, both of Mora and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A memorial service was held on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014 at Mora United Methodist Church with Rev. Robert Pesola officiating. Music was provided by Jacki Peterson and the Mora United Methodist Praise Team. Urnbearers were his grandchildren, Jacob, Sam and Elsa Headlee. Memorials may be given to either the Mora United Methodist Church or Kanabec County Hospice. Arrangements were handled by Akkerman-Ingebrand Funeral Home of Mora. Condolences may be posted at www.aifuneralhome.com.

LIVING H PE CHURCH “Where Hope Comes Alive”

Pastor Steve, Ginger & Isaiah Ekholm

Pastor Steve... a Pastor Who Understands.

T

hrough my experiences I know firsthand that faith works. Life without faith doesn’t. For 19 years, even though I attended church, I lived a life separated from God. I was a warm body sitting in a pew with a cold hard heart. Then I moved up my status and became a CEO (Christmas Easter Only). Did my life improve? No! A life without faith put me on the fast track to a slow decay toward death. I became an alcoholic, got addicted to pornography, I was angry all the time and involved in other addictive patterns. I masked all of the internal pain with nice clothes and a smile. I tried everything to get rid of the stuff, but all it did was worsen my pain. Then in the Navy, God started to work. I had to hit rock bottom first though. All of that pain inside led me to suicide. In that moment of despair I heard a voice say “Go talk with the Navy Chaplain.” He told me I needed a relationship with Jesus. His words hit my heart and for the first time my heart softened. He explained how faith works through a relationship with Jesus. I prayed and accepted Jesus into my life and the transformation began! I discovered having faith doesn’t stop the problems from happening, but faith helps us get through them. Through faith God gives us grace. That grace gave me the power to overcome and endure job loss, poverty, major loss and grief, single parenting, obesity and more! Currently God’s grace is getting me through a short sale on my home, helping me on my son’s autism journey and gives me the strength to handle the pressures of leading a church. I learned through all of this that God was never mad at me. He’s always been concerned about my being rather than my doing. Basically, He made me into a pastor who understands.

Give Church Another Chance... It’s Where Hope Comes Alive! L

iving Hope Church is a growing multi-generational church filled with real people. We value relationships over programs! A typical Sunday starts with an adult small group at 9 am. Service starts at 10:15 with a blend of contemporary worship and hymns. We take time to pray for needs and respond to God’s leading. Pastor takes us through passages in a way so everyone can learn and discover how they can study the Bible on their own. People are encountering God and getting healed! Most common testimony we hear from our visitors is how they feel welcome and they sense God touching their heart during the service. Living Hope is a church where “Kids Love Church”! Each Sunday we have a worship time for kids and a staffed nursery. Many families are blessed through Eggcellent Adventure and other outreaches throughout the year. Wednesday nights our youth meet at Encounter for worship, word and prayer. The vision of Living Hope is simple: Being Disciples, Being in Community, Building Families, and Being Outreach Minded. A disciple is a band of people on journey together with Christ at the center while we follow in His steps living obedient lives. We accomplish that by being in small groups together, community meals every third Sunday of the month and meeting for prayer on a regular basis. The first Sunday of the month at 6 pm we have MORE, a place where people can come for prayer, worship, healing and to seek God. Pastor Steve says, “I’ve been called to reach spiritually hungry people, desperate people, and people who have been hurt by the church. Because of those wounds they either don’t attend anywhere or are making slow strides back. I understand. I’ve been there. Church has to be a place where people can come and find healing for their wounds. God is doing just that. Many people are coming to Living Hope and discovering that church can be fun, life changing and a place where they can encounter God’s love. Each week God is removing the labels off peoples’ hearts and minds, and healing their past. For the first time they aren’t feeling shame, guilt or condemnation. They are finding out that church is a place where God and others accept them as they are. People are giving church another chance and discovering it can be a place where hope comes alive!”

For example, if there is a word missing from a classified ad (garage sale item or descriptive word), no credit will be issued. Credit will not be given for more than one incorrect insertion unless the publisher is notified the same week the error occurs. All claims for adjustment must be communicated

to the publisher within 7 days of the first insertion. Failure to do so will result in forfeit of credit. Requests to place ads after the deadline nullifies all potential credit requests. Please check to make sure your advertisement is correct. If you made a change in your ad - in text and/or scheduling, please check to make sure it is corrected. If you have cancelled an ad, please check to make sure that the advertisement has been cancelled. We cannot guarantee placement of where your ad will be within your classification.
