On behalf of the Mora Lions we want to thank all of those who made this and past years’ Winter Vacation Raffle a great success. If it were not for the generous donations from local businesses and all of those who purchased tickets we would not have the funds to give back to your community. This year we made over $6,000. Again, thank you for making this happen.

Mora Marching Band Performed at Homecoming iPads for Sixth and Seventh Grade
The sixth grade students (along with the seventh grade at the High School) are a part of the 1:1 Learning Initiative that Mora Public Schools has established where each sixth/ seventh-grade student is supplied with an iPad. The interactiveness of the iPad provides an engaging experience for students and endless learning possibilities. Sixth-grade teacher, Leah Lick, said, “iPads are an incredible learning tool. Students have immediate access to knowledge and they are able to learn at their own pace. We have unlimited ways to engage our students and bring each lesson to life. It is an exciting time in education!” “The iPads are fantastic. Using my iPad makes homework easier. I can type everything and I don’t have to write notes ever again,” said Riley, a sixth grade student. The students are using an Internet-based program called Edmodo. Their assignments are posted on this site and parents have access to see what and how their child is doing. Tammie Bohachek, parent, said, “Edmodo is slick! I am so impressed! I know exactly what they’re doing in class, when it’s due, and can check the grades of quizzes. I am in love! What an awesome program to accompany the iPad initiative. This is very cool Mora School District!”
Robotics at the High School
The Marching Mustang’s performed for Mora’s “Hollywood Homecoming” on Friday night. They have spent the month of September preparing for the show. The band played selections such as “Hooray For Hollywood” and “Hollywood Nights” to go along with the theme of this year’s homecoming activities. Senior flag corp member, Ashlee Forslund and Mrs. Anna Patenaude prepared the flag routines for the evening. Flag members are seniors Ashlee Forslund, Bethany Coop and Rachael Anderson. Junior flags include Maddie Dopp and Calvin Cheney. Sophomore flags were Rosemary Edberg, Shian Westerholder, Dakota Hamme and Sarah Jane Madison. The band looks forward to preparing for their Winter Concert on Mon., Dec. 16 at 7:30. Other upcoming activities include Granite Ridge Honor Band, Jazz Contest, solo and ensemble work and the Pop Concert in February.
Football Gets a New Pressbox New to the Mora Varsity Football field this year is a new press and video structure. After well over 35 years and years of planning and fundraising, we now have a new and much more stable press box on the home side of the field. The new structure has two storage areas on the bottom floor that also serve as the foundation for the entire building. Wiring and storage are to be utilized there as well as the tunnel between the storage areas that give access to the bleachers. The second floor serves as the main scoreboard and PA area as well as two smaller areas to be used by radio stations for broadcasting. This floor is accessed by an exterior stairway that replaces entry from the bleachers. The third floor is divided into two main sections that serve the camera crews and spotters for both teams. This floor is accessed by an interior stairway which replaces the past access from an exterior extension ladder. This area replaces the roof platform used in the past and open to the elements. The new press box also eliminates the use of the box on the east side of the field by the visiting teams and broadcasters. This structure will eventually be removed in the interest of safety. Well over 70 percent of the cost is to be funded by fundraising efforts in the past by the Booster Club and football
Essay Winners The Mora High School Robotics team has officially begun for the 2014 season, and we are anticipating the start of another successful build season. The season starts Jan. 4 and will go for six weeks. Current team members are going to start practicing their engineering and design skills as well as electrical, programing, and metal fabrication skills in order to prepare for the build season. The number of participants on the team has started to grow and is now nearing 30 active student team members and about six mentors. We are always looking for community help and anyone interested in becoming a mentor and/ or donating to the program, should contact John Almos at Mora High School. The robotics team is scheduled to compete against more than 60 other schools at the DECC in Duluth on March 6-8. Wish us luck and check out our team’s website at -(https://sites.google.com/a/moraschools. org/first-robotics-competition-frcs/)

team as well as the Lettermen’s Club as well as direct contributions in the form of funds and labor. Construction was completed with the contributions and work from Country Construction, Sunrise Construction and Mattson Electric. Several staff members including Lance Strande, Dale Strelow and Josh Norby also were heavily involved in the project. This is an impressive addition to our athletic facilities and the Athletic Department, the football program and the Mora District would like to thank all those involved in making this project come to completion. THANK YOU!!

2013 FLU VACCINATION CLINICS
Should I get a Àu vaccination this year? Yes. Everyone older than 6 months of age should get Àu vaccine this year. Even if you received a seasonal Àu vaccine last year, you should still get it again this year. High-dose Àu vaccine is available for people over 65. Getting a Àu vaccination means 1) you won’t get sick and 2) you won’t pass the Àu on to people who risk getting very sick -- like babies, pregnant women, elderly people, and people who have chronic diseases.
