1. Their 1st deer - Families pass white-tail hunting traditions on to the next generation: It was a long shot, especially for someone so young. The forkhorn stood broadside on the edge of the cornfield, nearly 190 yards away. Ten-year-old Ian Lindquist wasn’t immediately successful. He missed his first two shots with his rifle, but the deer stood frozen, giving Ian another try. His third shot hit. (535 pageviews) 2. Kanabec County Court Report: (266 pageviews) 3. 8 - ADVERTISER, NOVEMBER 22, 2020 problem by using fertilizer more efficiently, by eating less meat and more fruits, vegetables, whole grains and nuts and by making other important changes to our food system.” HEALTH DEPARTMENT TO BEGIN TEXTING TO REACH POSITIVE CASES, CLOSE CONTACTS The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) will soon expand its toolkit for case investigation and contact tracing (CICT) by notifying people via text that the health department will be calling. The initiative aims to more effectively reach and inform those who test positive for COVID-19 and their close contacts about what they need to do to prevent further spread, and to better protect the state’s most vulnerable
populations through improved outreach and communication. The texting is expected to begin Monday, Nov. 16. UNSAFE SLEEP PRACTICES ACCOUNT FOR NEARLY ALL UNEXPECTED INFANT DEATHS The Minnesota Department of health encourages parents of infants to follow safe sleep practices. Unsafe sleep environments account for nearly all unexpected infant deaths in Minnesota. Know the ABCs of safe sleep: ALONE: Infants should always sleep or nap alone; BACK: Always put a baby on their back to sleep or nap; CRIB: Babies should always sleep or nap in their own safety-approved crib or play yard without blankets or pillows.
POST-9/11 VETERANS MORE LIKELY THAN NONVETERANS TO BE EMPLOYED Employment among the nation’s 3 million post-9/11 veterans was higher from 2014 to 2018 than it was among those who never served in the armed forces, according to a new U.S. Census Bureau report released this month. In contrast with older veteran groups, such as those from the Vietnam era or Gulf War, post9/11 veterans encountered very different labor markets after returning from the armed forces. As a result, post-9/11 veterans represent a unique and growing segment of the veteran population and the broader U.S. workforce.

KTF TELECOM SERVICE DISCONTINUED On Nov. 12, Minnesota Public Utilities Commission granted permission to CenturyLink to discontinue wholesale services to KTF Telecom. As a result, KTF Telecom customers in the Mora, Pine City and Rush City areas may lose service and should contact KTF Telecom to determine if they will be impacted. In the event of a disconnection, customers will need to fi nd an alternate provider. Th is decision involves Commission regulated services only. Prior to discontinuing service, CenturyLink will issue a notice to known KTF Telecom customers giving consumers 30 days to fi nd a new service provider. Customers having trouble fi nding an alternative provider may contact Public Utilities Commission’s Consumer Affairs Office for assistance and mediation services. The CAO helps resolve disputes between customers and utility companies, contact at 651.296.0406, or 800.657.3782, or email at consumer.puc@state. mn.us.

*IMPORTANT PROPERTY TAX HOMESTEAD NOTICE* *THIS WILL AFFECT THE AMOUNT OF PROPERTY TAX YOU PAY IN 2021, AND IT MAY AFFECT YOUR ELIGIBILITY FOR A PROPERTY TAX REFUND. Have you purchased or moved into a property in the past year? Contact your county assessor to file a homestead application if you or a qualifying relative occupy the property as a homestead on or before December 1, 2020. Applications may also be found online at: http://www.kanabeccounty.org/departments/applications/index.php What is a qualifying relative? For agricultural property, a qualifying relative includes the child, grandchild, sibling or parent of the owner or owner’s spouse. For residential property a qualifying relative also includes the owner’s uncle, aunt, nephew or niece. When do I apply? You must apply on or before December 15, 2020. Once homestead is granted, annual applications are not necessary unless they are requested by the county assessor. You are required to notify the county assessor within 30 days if you sell, move, or for any reason no longer qualify for the homestead classification. Failure to notify the county assessor within this 30 day period is punishable by recalculation of tax as non-homestead, in addition to a penalty equal to 100 percent of the homestead benefits.
