Who are some of the underclassmen to look out for on varsity? Paul and I are excited about many of our returning underclassmen, but I’ll point out just a few. Matthew Newton will take the reins as varsity goalkeeper from Grant Taylor. Matthew has been working hard and will be fun to watch this year. Danielle Heiderscheid is our only returning starting defenseman and should provide stellar play, and excellent leadership to the new defensive group. What are some challenges the team faces this year? We graduated seven starters who had each brought years of experience to the field. We will be challenged to find replacements for each of them. We are returning only one starting defensive back, and will be assembling an all new defensive squad/goal keeper. However, while our team is younger and has less experience, they are hungry and eager to
prove themselves and show what this year’s team can accomplish. What are your goals for the team’s 2014 season? Our team’s motto this year is a quote from C.S. Lewis. It says, “Hardships often prepare ordinary people for extraordinary destinies.” Our goal is to do this every practice and game. Any moment, no matter how difficult, is preparing us for what may come next. While it will be a tall order, this year’s team has decided to make it their goal to capture their fifth straight C.A.L. championship. As coaches it is our goal to equip our players with the tools to excel on the field, but more importantly, to equip them with spiritual and emotional tools that will benefit them for the rest of their lives. Who is the opponent to watch for this year? Valley Christian School and Hope Christian School are both bringing stellar squads back this year. Both teams have always given Cambridge Christian School good competition and this year will be no different.

ership combined with new talent give us a real opportunity to be competitive, a high level of camaraderie already being built over the past two weeks will pull us together as one team, positive attitude of the team as a whole. Our most important goal as a team is to build the strength of character of our players and form an undeniable bond as a team. Who are some of the underclassmen to look out for on varsity? Additional depth for this year include an expanded role for returning junior midfielders Jordyn Galeazzi and Cayla Weber, along with sophomore midfielders Emily Carlson and Trista Betz. On defense, freshman newcomer Halli Devries has quickly earned a starting outside back position with her ability to see the field and be in the right place at the right time. Backing her up will be new-to-thevarsity sophomore defenders Anna Varsoke and Haley Prigge. Rounding out this group is our newly trained goalkeeper sophomore Lainie Cox ,who has demonstrated
a natural instinct for the position, combined with a high level of athleticism to guard the goal for us this season.
All of these athletes form a solid group of younger players to back up the veterans.
What are some challenges the team faces this year? Increase goalscoring capacity while remaining strong defensively, improving passing accuracy and movement away from the ball.
What are your goals for the team’s 2014 season? Our most important goal as a team is to build the strength of character of our players and form an undeniable bond as a team. Our challenge goals, as any team’s would be, are to win the conference and advance to the state tournament. We’ll first set our sights on our initial competitive goals to finish in the top third of the conference and advance in the section tournament.
Who is the opponent to watch for this year? We play in a very competitive conference and section, including STMA and Rogers in the Mississippi 8 and Blaine and Andover in Section 7AA.
