The sun sets over a plot of corn. Farmers put long and tough hours into their corn plots so that people throughout the area can use the well-grown corn for food, fuel and various other products that are essential to their daily lives. Agriculture is defined as the science or practice of farming with the intent to harvest both crops and livestock. But to many, agriculture is so much more. Agriculture means jobs, experiences and evolution in today’s technological world. While some people may see agriculture as nothing more than farming, it should not be taken for granted. Agronomy plays a vital role in the world we live in, from the food we eat to the gas that’s pumped into our cars. There are people all over the world who harvest crops, maintain farms, finance equipment, test seeds and teach others about agriculture. All parts of agriculture are crucial in making the world what it is today. People can support those in agriculture by spreading the message of how necessary it is and continuing to buy everyday products. Agriculture has advanced our society greatly by employing many people around the world. Technology has also evolved immensely through the constant creation of new machines to create more efficient farming systems. Students can get involved through different courses or by joining the National FFA Organization. It’s important to appreciate those who work in agriculture because without them there would be no world we live in today.
