Sharing true Highland warmth from our home to yours
In 1897 Tomatin was nothing but an isolated and idyllic setting for a distillery. With the new Highland Railway came opportunities, and so the distillery was born. Since then, the distillery has been at the heart of the community and the community at the heart of the distillery. Today, the Tomatin lives on in the form of an exciting and varied of Highland
Tomatin
Welcome
I am delighted to welcome you to this year's HGL Pro Am on behalf of the Highland Golf Links Partners: Royal Dornoch, Nairn, Castle Stuart, Kingsmills, Culloden House Hotel, and Links House by Royal Dornoch. We wish you the best of luck and hope you thoroughly enjoy this year's event. It is a record year with 75 entries and many more on a waiting list who unfortunately couldn't join us. As ever, we are very grateful to Tomatin Single Malt for their event sponsorship and to our supporters, TaylorMade, Kjus, Scottish PGA, and Kane Partnership. We now look forward to welcoming you to one of the premier golfing events in Scotland.
We are thrilled to be back as headline sponsors of the 2022 Highland Golf Links Pro Am and continue our association with this renowned event featuring three world class golf courses. The Highlands of Scotland are the home of Tomatin Whisky. For us, it is about stories and warm welcomes. That’s why we couldn’t be more pleased to be the Event Sponsor for the HGL Pro Am once again. Over several lifetimes of producing fine whisky, we’ve come to realise that it is experiences and memories that matter. We hope that your play this week brings you something great to look back on, especially when you settle down to savour your own special single cask bottle of Tomatin. Good luck!
Stuart McColm General Manager Cabot Highlands Stephen Bremner Managing Director Tomatin Distillery Co. Ltd.Welcome to one of the world’s finest links courses
Whether you are no stranger to our historic links, or this event marks your first visit to Royal Dornoch, rest assured the team will be doing everything in our power to ensure the experience lingers long in the memory.
The lure cast by the famous Championship Course entices golfers from around the globe to follow in the footsteps of the greats of the game.
While Royal Dornoch has long been regarded as a destination for golfing pilgrims, we were delighted to move up to third spot in the latest Golf Digest “World’s 100 Greatest Golf Course” rankings.
Legendary golf course architect Donald Ross, of Pinehurst No2 fame, was indebted to his hometown links for inspiring designs across the USA and Canada.
In the wake of unprecedented demand from visitors and members travelling from abroad to play Royal Dornoch this year, we have been inundated with inquiries about the availability of tee-times for the 2023 season.
We are pleased that the reputation of the sister Struie Course has been flourishing in recent years, with the R&A providing its stamp of approval by breaking ground to host the 2022 Women’s and Men’s Senior Amateur Championships side-by-side at the same venue over the summer.
Like so many visitors to Royal Dornoch, an international field discovered the delights of the Struie links during their stay in the Highlands.
We are delighted to once again warmly welcome the Highland Golf Links Pro Am sponsored by Tomatin to Royal Dornoch.
We are sure everyone teeing-up in the event will relish the experience of competing on our famous links and testing their skills over Castle Stuart Golf Links and The Nairn Golf Club.
Welcome to Cabot Highlands
As many readers will know by now, Cabot, the developer and operator of master-planned golf resort communities, recently acquired Castle Stuart Golf Links. The course is the focal point of the iconic property, now known as Cabot Highlands.
Castle Stuart is named among Golf Digest’s World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses and retains its name. The wider Cabot Highlands resort, similar to all Cabot properties across the globe, has a mission to combine jawdropping surroundings, world-class golf, exciting real estate opportunities and exceptional service.
Ben Cowan-Dewar, CEO and co-founder of Cabot, said:
“Castle Stuart has been synonymous with the region since it first opened thirteen years ago. We are honoured to be a steward of the land and carry the original vision for the property forward.
“Our goal is to create unforgettable memories in magical places, and there are few places in the world more awe-inspiring than the Scottish Highlands.”
Cabot plans to build a second course designed by acclaimed golf course architect Tom Doak. Located on a pristine piece of land, the course will play around Castle Stuart’s 400-year-old castle. The course will have significant water frontage but will sit lower than the first course, with less wind exposure, wide fairways and dramatic-yet-practical bunkers. The course will incorporate natural contours, meandering through hillsides and expansive open land with several holes along the water. Planning for the course begins in late 2022 and construction will begin in 2023 with an estimated completion date of 2024.
Tom Doak said: “I’m thrilled to partner with Ben Cowan-Dewar and the Cabot team. We have been searching for the perfect destination for years. Our goal is to create a distinctly Scottish golf experience that appeals to players at all levels with an authentic linksstyle course that puts the golf holes front and centre.”
Real estate will be a key component of the community with sales expected to begin in 2023. The legacy property will feature houses and cottages with upscale, modern touches inspired by the alluring landscape of the Scottish countryside. When owners are not in residence, their homes will be available as luxury accommodations for visiting guests. The Cabot Highlands property will be completed with retail, restaurants and communal gathering points.
General Manager Stuart McColm and the existing team at Castle Stuart are now part of the Cabot family and continue to play a leading role in the story going forward.
Stuart McColm said: “I’ve been involved with this special property since 2006 and I can’t think of a better partner than Cabot to lead our next chapter. The work they’ve done at Cabot Cape Breton on the courses and within the community speaks for itself. The cultures of Cabot and Castle Stuart are a perfect fit. Together we are committed to providing golfers with fun and enjoyable courses in stunning locations as well as providing top class customer service. The future is hugely exciting and we can’t wait to deliver on the many great plans for Cabot Highlands that will bring a significant boost to the region’s economy while at the same time delivering a very special, world class golfing experience.”
History made at Nairn
Founded in 1887 by Robert B Finlay who was created a Vis count in 1919 following service as Lord Chancellor in the Lloyd George government. Nairn is consistently ranked amongst the leading courses in the UK.
The Club has been very fortunate and indeed honoured to have held an array of Amateur Golf tournaments. The Club is only one of nine clubs who have held the Walker Cup, Curtis Cup and the Amateur Championship.
The Amateur Championship returned to Nairn for the second time in 2021 culminating in one of the most exciting finals in the 126th year history of the Championship. Laird Shepherd (Rye GC) defeating Monty Scowsill (Woodbridge GC) at the 38th hole having been 7 down after 18 holes.
The story of Nairn Golf Club is constantly evolving, and everyone who plays or visits becomes part of that story.
Memories, focus and fun, 2021
From our cover: The 50 year old whisky prize for the top professional.
Following 50 years of maturation here at the Tomatin Distillery, cask number 30040 has been bottled in its most natural form yielding just 125 special bottles to celebrate our distillery’s 125th anniversary.
In true celebratory fashion, this single malt is bursting with aroma. Dried tropical fruits are first to greet the nose before a mix of nuts, dark chocolate and honey. Much like the history of Tomatin itself, the palate is slow to open with gentle hints of fresh orange and apricot, it then becomes more intense with notes of dried fruit and spices before a wave of Oloroso Sherry driven flavours. The flavour recedes, leaving an elegant, rich sweetness to linger.

Its fifteen bedrooms have been individually designed and appointed to accentuate their generous size, unique character and views.
We are proud to be rated as one of the top dining experiences in Scotland.
The Highlands is the most magical, beautiful and, yes, remote of the five major golf regions in Scotland, yet it is perhaps the best.
Links House rests in the very heart of the Scottish Highlands, surrounded by pristine coastline, beaches, rivers, lochs, forests and mountains.

Culloden House is located in the east neighbourhood of Inverness, capital of the Highlands. Our location on the “tourist route” is superb. Within a two – ten mile radius are Culloden Battlefield, Championship Golf (Castle Stuart), Clava Cairns (oldest neolithic site), Ft. George, Cawdor Castle (“most romantic castle in Scotland”), the Airport, City Centre (4 miles), Loch Ness and more.
At the time of the Jacobite uprising in 1745-46, Bonnie Prince Charlie used Culloden House as his lodging and battle headquarters prior to that fateful battle on Culloden Moor.
Today, this historic Inverness luxury hotel stands in nearly 40 acres where you are free to wander about the woodland and private gardens to enjoy the exceptional peace, tranquility and majesty of the grounds.
Undoubtedly our greatest asset is the staff. Here Highland hospitality has been elevated to its highest art form without being “stuffy” nor too “proper” or reserved. After all you deserve, without compromise, the very best.

"Back from an absolutely fantastic few days @hglproam … magical golf courses to play, great company with the lads and even the weather behaved!! Massive thanks to @Tomatin1897 for supporting the event and an unbelievable prize."
2021 Winner, Matthew Nixon
Last year's HGL Pro Am was won by Matthew Nixon. He had led by two shots overnight after his opening rounds at Royal Dornoch and Castle Stuart. He then completed his win with a five-under 66. It gave Matthew a final 16-under 197 and a four-shot victory over defending champion Tom Higson.
As reported by Martin Dempster in The Scotsman, Nixon said: “I’ve won the odd one-day event but sleeping on a lead and winning a three-round event is really nice.”
Below - his Stamford Golf Club Team A also won, with 275 points (l to r) Chris Exton, Anthony Cavanagh, Matthew Nixon and Adam Wells.
Matthew was presented with his 50 year-old whisky prize by Stephen Bremner, Managing Director of Tomatin Distillery Co. Ltd.Scotland’s very own Robert MacIntyre, originally from Oban which is a mere 110 miles from Inverness, landed a significant win when triumphing at the European venue for the next Ryder Cup, the Marco Simone GC (15th-18th September).
He beat US Open winner Matt Fitzpatrick in a play-off to lift the Italian Open in Rome and even had Rory McIlroy calling ‘Bobby Mac’ the “future of the European Ryder Cup team”. It was MacIntyre’s second DP World Tour triumph. And what a way to do it:
• Six under front nine on the final day (29), finishing with a tournament low 64
• New Stealth Driver set up – Stealth Plus 9.0
• 302-yard average driving distance
• Hybrid replacing his normal 5 wood
• Up to 15th in the DP World Tour rankings
Along with his coach and TaylorMade’s Tour representatives, MacIntyre paid particular attention to getting his driver working well for the event, along with his Hybrid. Both clubs were to get him to the green for a play-off birdie which clinched the win.
He said: "At the start of the week I didn't think this week was going to be the one - the style of golf course, the way it was playing. But we worked on a few things on Tuesday and Wednesday and I felt so in control of my golf ball this week - my wedges, my long irons and even that hybrid that came into the bag."
Here at TaylorMade we wish the players a similar taste of success at this year’s HGL Pro Am 2022.
