RAJ VASTU SANGRALYA (PRINCE OF WALES MUSEUM) Solution space The re-designing of the existing signage system with more inputs , has been taken forward majorly because of different constraints in the museum like: • Color coded signage would not work in the museum as there are 20 • galleries and color shade or tint would repeat. Hence, might create
confusion in the minds of the visitors’ minds. Also, for color blind people. • Color identity for each section would not go with the overall environment of the museum.
identification of the areas (few)
The signage is put in a wrong direction. It is a bit tilted and short to notice.
No signage for people coming out the museum building towards the exit stating the way towards gate, cafeteria and auditorium.
Re-design in terms of color scheme. Not that clearly visible. Camouflages with the background.Need to use a color scheme which
doesn’t dominate the environment yet visible more clearly as compared to the existing one.

The leaf
The idea behind the using a leaf as the arrow to direct is basically “following the nature. The motif taken from the environment of the museum itself. It connects to people
emotionally. The major portion of the museum campus is covered with foliage, hence, gives it a reason also to direct people towards the world of history.

Why this? The city itself resides in the laps of nature, majorly, water. The color reminds of Aquamarine. That worked as the muse to come up with this color. It is fresh, attractive yet subtle. The color is kind of contrasting to the whole museum environment which makes the point but it doesn’t break the harmony of the museum being that strikingly different.

Why this? The color is earthy in the very first place. It reminds of soil, stone, earth. It is subtle and goes with the atmosphere & interior of the whole museum. The color reminds of history which brings out the major essence of the museum.

Why this? Its close to nature. Being a conserver of history, the museum works in different areas to conserve it. For example, Rain water harvesting. The greenery and the foliage brings out the best from the campus. The building itself sits in the lap if nature which is the first look of the museum to the visitor coming. People has a tendency to go close to nature, hence attracting them to read the signage.

The bold outline is the arrow inculcated in the design of an arch pointing in upward direction giving direction as well as information about the galleries that are on the floor above. The space left is for Hindi versions of the names.
The space left is for Hindi versions of the names.
Every gallery could be assigned with a number so that there is no need of changing the already existing signs for the names of the galleries. Numbers are easier to remember also. Options for the main gallery names to be hung or pasted as per the choice.
