A MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Welcome to the KVPD Annual Report! The purpose of this report is to provide highlights and showcase the District's accomplishments, finances, events, activities and projects of 2020-2021 As you will see, the KVPD information contained within this report will reflect the benefits provided to our community and how essential Parks and Recreation is to your community, especially the Kankakee Valley Park District.

On March 13, 2020 per governor orders, we shut down due to the pandemic While we worked to reimagine recreation, Parks and trails welcomed residents and visitors with fresh air, exercise and social distancing! Our maintenance crew continued to maintain our grounds, facilities, and equipment Within a short timeframe, we were up and running with our leisure, at home, self-guided, do it yourself, virtual programming. We continued to communicate with everyone through our social media outlets, emails, and via phone.

During the pandemic the district was able to forge ahead and complete the Splash Valley Aquatic Center 10,000 square foot, three-acre renovation project This renovation project was in the works since 2018 when the district sold the bond specifically for the renovation of Splash Valley

The staff at KVPD is amazing They have weathered just about every storm imaginable Yet we never imagined a pandemic They pivoted to meet needs and challenges of our community in today’s world I could not be more proud and grateful for the dedication, adaptability and creativity the KVPD team continually presents

We are committed to providing our community with outstanding parks, programs and facilities.

Outdoor activities and recreational activity engagements were near and dear to us amidst the Covid19 pandemic The fiscal year of 2020-2021 was by far the most challenging not just for the Park District but for all alike We endured a shut down, and restrictions The Park District persevered by adjusting and adapting by creating new, unique ways to bring you, our community recreational opportunities. Our Mission statement clearly states we are to exist to acquire, develop and maintain parks; promote the conservation of natural and historical resources, and provide recreational facilities, programs, and services for the benefit of all District residents We believe we have proven to be a valued asset within our community now and throughout our existence beginning in 1925

During the Pandemic we were able to continue construction and ultimately open Splash Valley in May of 2021. With restrictions still in place from the State, the district adapted once again. The reopening of Splash Valley provided job opportunities to 75+ Highschool and college students.

We have purchased two ADA swings Cobb Park Playground and Jeffers Park Playground will be the happy recipients The Campground and Bird Park Fields will have new playgrounds in the fall

All the challenges we faced has made us more appreciative, creative, and innovative in our recreation.

With the cancellation of almost all major events in the county during the summer of 2020, the Kankakee Valley Park District, along with Kankakee County Board Chairman Andy Wheeler and 35 sponsors and private donations, presented the 4th of July Drive-In Fireworks Celebration. With only one month to plan the event after the City of Kankakee cancelled their annual fireworks show, KVPD and others had a tough challenge ahead of them to organize this event while following Phase 3 Mitigations in the state of Illinois. However, it was important to all to make sure the mid-summer celebration would go on.
