ABOUT ME The impressive representation of architecture in pop culture has the power to influence many. As a freshman, one comes with a similar image, at times, verging on unappreciation of the norm. With time, I have learnt that one cannot just shoot for the stars. We need to start small, however tiresome it may appear. It is in these details that we understand the user and find what we intended . I am Kanwalpreet Kaur, a 4th year student of architecture at MNIT Jaipur and this ia a compilation of selected projects, I have worked on from 2019-2021.

THE R H Y T H M O F L I F E
“Music is life itself“ - Louis Armstrong In the fast-paced theatrical that is, life, home is the interlude. Home is where one celebrates the good and grieves the bad. The ebbs and flows of the wave are ceaseless, but home provides balance. It is that which maintains the rhythm of life. This house intends to incorporate the above, while fostering a sense of individuality with cohesiveness within the residents.

THE SOUTH ELEVATION
THE CONCEPT Home that represents the rhythm of life. As explained above, this residential project intends to convey and represent all that life is about, i.e all the ebbs and flow, as is evident in a wave pattern. This wave pattern has been incorporated within the facade, making use of brick as a unit. Along with this, three cutouts incorporate light, water and earth within the house.
THE SITE AGRA, UTTAR PRADESH AREA: 1130 sqm. The southern edge of the site faces the Taj Mahal, which lies across the bank from the house. The road to access the plot lies on the southern side as well. Hence, the front facade was required to face the south, both for access as well as a visual connection to the historic site. However, the direction posed a problem, because of the summer heat. Hence, a brick facade was introduced on the southern side to shield the inner dining and living space from heat.
TWISTING BRICK LOUVRE FACADE The twisting brick facade is composed of single stacks of bricks that twist about their central axis to represent the path of wave. These elements have been inspired from Thayer Brick House by Brooks + Scarpa + Studio Dwell Architects in Evanston, USA. These elements are formed by twisting the constituent brick by either of 15, 10, 5, 4.5, 4, 3.5, 3, 2.5 degrees. This intends to shield the southern facade froom the harsh southern sun while still allowing visual contact with the outside, the warm morning sunlight and cool wind within the house. Given alongside are three of the elements

THE S O U L O F K O C H I
“Sacredness of the spirit of Kochi” The journey to the site is an immersive exploration of a person in search of Turya (pure consciousness). The essence of Kochi is captured by three things: Camaraderie of the people, Biennale and the Ethos of Kochi. In the design, these parameters translate into the community space, the bridge and the hall of senses respectively.

THE CONCEPT What is sacred to human? What is the spiritual experience? Sacred is an idea which the human mind cannot comprehend yet believe and have faith in. Sacred is that what a piece of land can offer to its people. As can be observed in all faiths, the spiritual experience can be a sum of three parts. First, a sense of giving back to the community. Second, the journey towards that which is sacred and third, attaining and being one with the end of the journey. This reflects in the design.

SERENITY
THE SITE GUNDU ISLAND, KOCHI, KERALA AREA: 5.3 ACRES Located in the heart of the back waters, the chosen island disconnects the user from the hustle and bustle of the city yet allows them to enjoy the views on all four sides. The topography of the site offers an opportunity to create a link between the contrasting requirements of the socially active and the meditative spaces. The bridge acts as a medium to disengage the user from the outward perceptions of the world and gradually move to an introspective cocoon.

DOCKS AND THE ENTRANCE
HALL OF SENSES The Hall of Senses embodies the experience offered by the city of Kochi. It offers an immersive experience to the user. A Single entrance evokes a sense of surety as one enters it. The wall conceals what would be a panoramic view of the water body with a central waterfall that would inturn fill up the concetric channels around the rain tree. The tree is central to the hall as it represents the life of the city encompassed by it as its leaves invigorate its people.

A L I G H T A T T H E E N D
Rethinking healthcare facilities and focusing on the consumer A medical facility gives utmost importance to its functions, hence it becomes essential that the spaces strictly cater to the requirements of the medical facility. However, since a hospital deals with the health of the people, its architecture must reflect this by uplifting the mind of the consumer.

A Light at the end - HOPE
CALGIRI MARG, JAIPUR, RAJASTHAN AREA: 3960 sqm.
A healthcare facility projects itself as a space that is overwhelming, dull and at times fearsome. This may be both, because of the conventional consumer attitude towards it and also because of the function of the space which demands it to be austere. This reflects in architecture. However, transition spaces may change that by incorporating certain elements that soothe the human mind.
The site lies in Rajasthan, with a hot climate, hence characteristic courtyards have been introduced, especially in areas that include waiting spaces. Since, major healthcare facilities are present nearby, this was designed as a minor healthcare facility with 40 beds.
Transition spaces are chosen because although they form an important part of the medical setup, they also give a certain freedom to the designer to appeal to the mind of the user. A nursing home need not be dull. “A light at the end “ incorporated both the concept of light and transition spaces to uplift the mind of the user
Due to the hot climate, a stepped profile has been attempted on the northern facade, facilitating ventilation. The major access route lies towards the north. Thus, the application of different materials on the facade that reflect light in a specific manner have been used to create an environment that soothes the visitor,

An attempt at making use of precast concrete, led to a kiosk which was meant to be a replicable structure and could be easily constructed, with minimum constituent elements. The design that follows is a food kiosk that consists of a preparation counter and dining space
