About me
My career in illustration began in 2012 when I had my first picture book published. Since then I have had the pleasure of illustrating many more picture books and animated sketch videos. I have a true passion for pattern design. I enjoy every aspect of it, from finding inspiration through to sketching up ideas, finding colour palettes and the magic of bringing it all together and finally seeing the designs printed onto products and textiles. I am very lucky to live on the Mornington Peninsula south of Melbourne, Australia. It’s a beautiful area with beaches, vineyards and interesting plantlife and animals. No shortage of inspiration. I have three lively children, a dog and chickens that also keep me busy. When I can, I love to cycle or pop into the city to feel the wonderful vibrancy of Melbourne life. I hope you enjoy looking through my pattern collections. Karen Erasmus

I live on the south coast of Australia where the air is fresh and breezy and an abundance of eucalyptus, banksia and other native plants grow alongside imported European plants. The gardens are fabulous here. This collection is a celebration of is.

The Australian Summer is hot and dry. Trips to the beach, picnics and barbecues with friends include fruit salads, bowls of strawberries and delicious pavlova with mounds of juicy fruits. In the garden there are trees packed full with citrus and figs. It’s a joyful time. I choose a muted but varied pallet to reflect the bright sunshine and bleach sun-surf look.

A well earned holiday on a tropical island really heightens the senses. With time to stroll and breath suddenly colours are vivid and you notice all the fabulously odd shaped flowers and glorious colours.

Walking around the horse paddocks and watching my little dog dart about after all the interesting smells. The wild flowers growing on the edges of the fields are small and delicate but hardy and they dance about in the breeze.
