Open Mall 2015

OPEN MALL Coming from the United States in the 1980s, the so-called Open Malls are meeting the needs of the consumer who over time is acquiring new lifestyle habits and priorities. This new consumer tired of the traditionalism of the Brazilians closed malls, seeks a new environment of consumption, places that convey a sense of freedom never felt before in a shopping center. The "Open Mall" is nothing more than a concept of street shopping, which has already become a worldwide trend and it is in front of this scenario that it has been gaining strength in the Brazilian market, which is recreating the shopping malls and turning them into shopping centers In the open air. Besides being an architectural solution that enables the reduction of maintenance costs, it is an option that results in a more pleasant space for the public, bringing along with shopping, leisure with freedom, style and charm. The landscape design is one of the great differentials of Open Malls. In addition to being linked to sustainability, the spaces are pleasant, generally well-wooded, with gardens and water mirrors with crystal clear water and beautiful flowers, completing the scenery of nature that adds to the concept of sophistication and beauty of space. Thus, besides offering an interesting space to the public, this venture also reduces costs with maintenance, due to the use of ventilation and natural light with the creation of green areas. The mall's gardens extend throughout all environments, among the shops and restaurants. The green is present throughout the development and has a huge variation of species of plants, trees and coconut trees to make the environment even more cozy for the visitor.

The Project will be an open mall, which will take care from its architectural and landscape planning to create a shopping center inspired by the most elegant streets in the world. Not by chance, the shops will all face modern gardens, creating, thus, a climate that mixes charm and sophistication. The complex of approximately 200 stores, composed of a varied mix of brands, will house large bookstores, cinema and gym, all with the convenience to solve the practical issues of everyday life in a space that inspires warmth and tranquility in the middle of the green from nature. As it is a noble area of Vinhedo and the privileged location, the Mall will also have a large food court, a great gastronomic environment with starred restaurants and renowned cafes. Trend, consumption, consumer behavior, culture, window dressing and general events will be offered to all customers who opt for a complete space, and who provide a differentiated and engaging shopping moment.

MAKER LAB

San Francisco, USA 2017

As maker culture becomes more popular, maker spaces are becoming more common around the world. These spaces enable people of all skill levels to come in and use industrial tools and equipment to build their own objects. Maker spaces are closely associated with the Maker Faire, an event created by a magazine to celebrate arts, crafts, engineering, science projects and the DIY mindset. This event has been celebrated and growing since 2006 and regularly holds events around the world. The purpose of this project was to organize the spaces, choose and match all the different materials and furniture creating a warm and welcoming space for all the people who want to materialize their projects. This type of industrial space had to be vulnerable to technology advancements during the years. In addition, it had to be a place where people can be inspired to be creative and work together. The commercial building that was chosen by the client to fund his company is located on the Financial District in South San Francisco. The building is a large warehouse with a pre-war style built in 1922 with approximately 6,747 sqft. The Maker Lab was a project entirely developed with the client, who is an architect, designer and a talented maker. Through the visioning session he gave us the inspiration for the palette used on the project as well the main concept. The use of sustainable materials, strong colors and an innovative design resulted in an open and friendly industrial space, modern, practical and full of stunning touches.

PALM SPRINGS Located in a residential neighborhood of the East Palm Canyon Drive, this contemporary house carry a lot of identity and symmetry. The project was designed based on the contemporary style and masculine colors that the clients always wanted. Since the weather in Palm Springs is pretty much hot temperatures, sunny and blu sky every day, the insolation was a big challenge for such an open house. Surrounded of bright, colorful and mid century style houses, the second big challenge was to fit in such a contemporary taste in a desert house and make it not look like a urban loft. In order to achieve the clients wishes, my goal was to keep an open space with rough materials to resemble the desert texture and at the same time use sophisticated touches through out the rooms. All the rooms are composed basically of the same material and colors and connected by the concrete slab on the floor. On the bedroom more specifically, since we have a lot of windows and a huge space I wanted to bring a little bit of privacy for them and make it more cozy. I designed this wood panel where the vertical elements are rotated 35’ blocking the view from the door but at the same time it allows you to see through it and bring light for the other rooms. On the master bathroom, instead of the wood, I used two different kinds of a matte finish porcelain tile on the walls.I also worked with lots of contemporary elements such as the transparency, on the shower, the linear LED lights and clean furniture that add many stunning touches for this room. The master closet was also designed by me as a really important piece of furniture for my client in the same context of the rest of the project.

MILLENNIUM TOWER Fengshui is a Chinese philosophical system of harmonizing everyone with the surrounding environment. For the interior design it means a practice based on the idea that our homes are a mirror of what's happening inside us. The purpose of this project was to get the environment in alignment with who the client is and where he wants to go. In order to do that I used the feng shui energy map, the bagua, that showed me which areas of the house were connected to specific areas of the client’s life. For example, the north bagua area is connected to the energy of his career success, it thrives on the energy of the water element and the color is black. Each area invokes a different mood, and it helps balance the energy of the home, bringing harmony into his life and inviting the changes that the client desire.

The main challenge of the project was to work with all those colors, shapes, elements and materials of the bagua and make sure that they were well blended together through all the 1.656 square ft.

HANNA’S KITCHEN California, USA 2017

The original kitchen was U-shaped, with some dated brown cabinetry and with basic appliances. The lack of space contributed to difficult the traffic flow and to increase the number of dark spots in the room. The client wished to be able to entertain in her kitchen and talk to guests while cooking. She also wanted more space for counters, kitchenware and professional appliances. In order to achieve that I removed a wall to turn the U-shaped kitchen into a far more functional room. The transformation created space for a large island and continuous traffic flow. Some wood beams were incorporated on the ceiling as a unique architectural detail to bring the rustic look that the client wished. I also installed new appliances and added new finishes and cabinets.

Hanna’s kitchen has a traditional style with rustic accents. I incorporated the subway tile, white marble and white cabinets to light it up. Now, her kitchen has plenty of storage and space for the her and her family to entertain.

SARAH’S MASTER BATHROOM On the previous floor plan only a small bathroom was provided upstairs for all the rooms. However, my client wanted make an entry from her room to the bathroom in order to create a true master suite. To make this happen, we expanded the bathroom 16 inches in the master bedroom by removing the closet, but still having a door for the hall in front of the stairs. To keep the same characteristics of the rest of Sarah's house we decided to keep a traditional style in the new bathroom with some modern touches. For the furnishings, we kept it very functional and decorative at the same time. We opted for colors as close to natural basics tones as possible. nothing very bright nor vibrant. We choose a classic subway tile pattern and a gray tone on the walls. In addition, we also decide to incorporate a classic and fun patterned tile on the floor, wooden cabinetry and two modern sinks on a beautiful marble slab. On top of that, we added two large medicine cabinet rustic style mirrors. The sconces on the top of the mirrors and the freestanding bathtub brought a modern charm for the classic bathroom where the traditional black plumbing fixtures accessories define the new space.

To add definition I painted the walls with this deep blue, and to add function I designed a custom vanity with two sinks and two mirrors. To keep with their classic style, I incorporated a subway tile and this traditional floral floor tile.
