HUMAN LOCOMOTION - Indroducing a youth centre, new urban spaces and connections to the sea in Sandviken. In this project the focus was to investigate how Bergen, to an increasing extent, gets disconnected from the sea. The previously vibrant and changing shoreline has now remained unchanged for about 100 years. The only changes are the resent private developments, making it more difficult for people to approach the sea. Human Locomotion aims to give the sea back to the pedrestrians. The project consists of a pedestrian path, in the shape of a bridge, connected to three public plazas and Youth Centre with physical activities, study areas. It is by this, activating the shoreline as well as linking land to sea.

When designing a building to be the aging Lotta Svärd Museum´s new neighbour one must be careful not to create an iconic or individualistic building. In respect of the neighbours and in hope of bringing some new life to Aalto´s buildings, the Bath House is designed to be a small-scale building. Clad with wood in different greys, it has deep historic roots, but a modern, contemporary appearance. With no striking details, its modesty shows respect for the existing buildings at the same time as leaving an important trace of its own time.

>A< - an allotment garden with A-frame cottages of reusedtimber materials. The traditional A-frame construction is given a twist that gives it a modern look. The slight change in direction creates a south-facing corner that get nice and warm in sunny days. The building has a very steep roof where rain and snow run off easily and it has little need for maintenance. At the same time it makes the indoor space light and airy, like a modern Scandinavian summerhouse.

The aim of this University Park is to take better use of the potential in this sunny site. The project includes various concrete islands in a shallow pool, some facilitating places to sit, some merely decorative and one big wooden bridge. Closest to the main entrance of Tietotalo, four islands with low grass and stones creates a calm atmosphere where one can sit and read or socialize. The trembling of the leaves and the waterfalls also help drowning out the noise from the nearby road, making it more pleasant to stay. The third group of islands is continuing the atmosphere made by the existing landscape composed of naturally rounded stones with a pine tree on one side and small coniferous shrubs on the other.

The new station and part of the city takes advantage of the potential in the huge area behind Oslo S, where there is train tracks today. The main goal is to decrease people’s feeling of fear and discomfort when being at the station and the areas around. By lowering the train tracks below ground, a new city floor can be constructed on top, blending in with the existing situation. In contrast to the municipalities plans, this projects binds the station, Grønland, Barcode and the sea together. It will add new and raise existing qualities to public spaces and urban fabric in the city centre. A big part of this project consisted of reasearch of the current security situation around the world. Among this work was a case study of Occupy Wall Street and studytrips to Israel, London and Oslo.

Bicycle power replaces the missing generators as volunteers pedal to produce electricity. Not enough to provide heat for the occupiers, but it let them charge their electronic devices.

“Aggressive immigrant groups, drug addicts, pimps and prostitute everywhere, and everyone wants a little piece of you. Been worse than usual lately inside the station.”
“Shouts, knives, loud quarrelling and being spoken to at night. I avoid going here if I can.”
“Annoying drug sellers, large groups of addicts at bus stops. Unsafe transport hub.”
