01 TROISDORF GESAMTSCHULE NEW CONSTRUCTION OF SIEGLAR SCHOOL Competition 12/2018 I 1st Prize I Comprehensive School I Troisdorf, Germany Lamott.Lamott Architekten PartGmbB, Stuttgart
The challenging task is to redesign the existing Sieglar School Center as an important linkage node in the Rotter See districts. The existing urban situation impedes a pedestrian free movement; consecutively, the design offers a more functional networking quality in the outdoor space ranging from public, semi-public, to private in an exemplary manner. The new urban design proposes a sustainable multi-generational park in the north-west of the school and a city boulevard that act as a strong east-west axis and a healthy public space in the district. All outdoor system designs follow a consistent design approach: in different surfaces (hard / soft, green, paved). Furthermore, the concept is characterized by a sensitive handling of the room program that expands upon a 10,200 m 2 usable interior spaces. The school is divided into 2 edifices: the main building that contains of different classes and scientific halls, and a solitary building that contains the library and the auditorium / cafeteria which can be reached via a public square located on the boulevard. The new building’s design is composed of nested clusters with internal direct circulations. The classroom clusters are connected to each other via a checkerboard structure in such a way to create interesting relationships with the outside space and the inner courtyards of the building. The facade speaks a contemporary language by implementing continuous horizontal solid elements with a total glazed in between floors, thus creating new spatial situations and interesting, unimpeded views from inside towards outside and vise versa. Overall, the work is of high quality with clear structures and distinctions between the „inside“ and the „outside“. Path relationships and open spaces are accentuated in the right places and form a good dialogue with the new development.

Carpentry/Wood Warehouse
The main task was to redevelop the Wingertsbuckel Barracks District in Mannheim with two focuses: a new residential quarter, and a green depot (Betriebshof). Working in a team of 3, I was responsible to develop a new, greener Betriebshof. The concept is to lower the depot by approximately 2m with sloping green bevel running along the North, West and East, thus the depot disappears and integrates into the park found in the North. At the same time, a natural view, better airflow, and noise protection is created for the neighboring residential area. All the company vehicles are then housed under the green slope edge. The depot’s workshops are thematically grouped in three free-standing individual buildings (wood, metal processing, paint shop in combination with central warehouse) in the courtyard; as a result, the free space of the depot is zoned and sensibly structured. All parking spaces of vehicles are directly connected to a circumferential ring access road for feasibility. The southern end of the depot marks an iconic four-story operating building. It shields the depot from the residential development in the South and houses all offices and social rooms. In terms of both climate and economy, the design offers an almost ideal arrangement. The facades are planned with wooden slats made of solid squared timber in different depths (10-20 cm) to underline the sustainable but robust character of the building.

03 HERRENBERG WOHNQUARTIER NÖRDLICH DER SCHWARZWALDSTRASSE Competition 2/2018 I 3rd Prize I Housing District I Herrenberg, Germany ASP Architekten GmbH, Stuttgart
The new living quarter is located on the outer edge of the Herrenberg city center. The surrounding residential area is mainly characterized by single-family and smaller semi-detached houses. It is located near an industrial area which highlights the bad quality of the surrounding noise emissions. As a result, the urban planning seeks an approach of creating three green courtyard typologies for a new, independent residential area. These typologies forms a quiet enclosed atmosphere for future residents in which all of the housing units are orientated. Furthermore, a “foyer” is developed in the eastern side that serves as an address to the whole quarter and a strong public space binder; arrival, accessibility and orientation are clearly structured. Inside, the diversity of the different types of residential units is reflected. The selected materials and facade design support the concept of diverse qualities in a uniform overall identity. On the inside, the courtyards receive wooden cladding on facades and outstanding balconies, which break the uniformity and give the courtyards a lively and natural atmosphere with a high, homely character. By slightly varying the themes of wood and balcony, each building also has its own character without disturbing the overall impression of the ensemble.

06 SERPENTINE GALLERY NEW ELEPHENTINE MUSEUM Spring 2015 I 5th Year Undergraduate I Archeological Museum I Aswan,Egypt Pre-Masters Supervised By: Prof. Thomas Loeffler
The Island of Elephantine is located on the Nile River along the city of Aswan in Upper Egypt, some 850 km South of Cairo. Elephantine is one of the biggest islands of the cataract and stretches about 2 km opposite the Aswan corniche form North to South, its biggest east-west extension is ca. 750m wide. Since the 1960s, the island is home to important archaeological sites that have been excavated by the German Archaeological Institute and the Swiss Institute of Architectural Studies. Amongst the existing important edifices are two excavation houses, one that host archaeologists and other researchers coming from abroad during the excavation and an existing old villa that is recreated as an old museum for the excavation site. In addition, a village exists along the design site that represents the Nubian way of life. The new design is intended to promote the Nubian quality of the island and an interesting voyage that users would experience while visiting the historical site. It adds modern touristic and research facilities that were missing and enhances the entrance situation. Series of public spaces and urban platforms are designed to direct visitors from the landing point on the island to the former, old museum and eventually to the archaeological sites. The new museum building is a series of interchangeable floors on different heights and dimensions to allow a changeable interesting experience. Building materials include local bricks provided by the Nubian village nearby.

07 STUTTGART STร CKACH SUSTAINABLE REDEVELOPMENT OF THE PARKWAY DISTRICT BACHELOR THESIS Summer 2014 I 4th Year Undergrade I Housing,Mixed-Use I Stuttgart,Germany Supervised By: Prof. Dr.Eng. Helmut Bott
The project, Stuttgart Stรถckach-sustainable redevelopment of the parkway district, aims to develop sustainable urban and landscape concepts to remodel and reactivate the current Stรถckach parkway district. Nowadays, the area, located close to the city center in the east of Stuttgart, faces severe housing and environmental problems such as poor air quality, noise pollution, and inefficient energy-consumption buildings. In addition, it lacks a strong urban identity and therefore is secluded from the existing urban context. The aim of the project is to approach the broad topic of sustainable urban planning with a holistic view. The redesigned urban area attempts to re-establish the important connection to the Schlossgarten, an important park that borders the design area, and the new Rosenstein Quarter that is developed nearby. It attempts to create a strong essence that reconnects the surrounding urban fabric, while introducing sustainable designing methods through the urban and architecture design in a series of courtyard buildings and interlocking public spaces. The focus area was selected to include an interesting mixture of block activities that encompasses working, residential, and mixeduse functions and to keep some of the existing urban fabric. The newly formed blocks allow a better sense of community, providing accommodation to diversity of users.

08 G.U.C BIBLIOTHEK THE NEW G.U.C LIBRARY Winter 2012 I 3rd Year Undergraduate I University Library I Cairo,Egypt Integrated Project Supervised By: Prof. Thomas Loeffler and Prof. Hanno Ertel
Libraries are what define the essence of universities. They are the center of the knowledge for all students and teachers. The current situation of the G.U.C library is not satisfying. It is located in a “hidden” room at the basement floor of one of the university‘s main buildings and its atmosphere is not very inspiring. This situation evoked an idea to establish a new prominent library that will be a learning beacon and the focal point for the university. The design strategy is to introduce a new, interesting building typology. It houses new administrative offices, reading halls, shelving areas for 15,000 books, study and conference rooms, and a cafeteria. Its new location at the heart of the campus was one of the important tasks to take into consideration in the designing phase. The Integrated Project considers different focuses: architectural design, building technology, and structural design. The main concept is to introduce the new building in the heart of the university to make it the physical presence. It is a U-typology oriented toward the main communal/ open mensa area. The design integrates a complex urban retrofitting and a smart stagnant facade system that considers sustainable approaches such as shading and lighting.

09 PARA-CUPINE PARA-MODULAR EXPO Spring 2013 I 3rd Year Undergraduate I Pavilion I G.U.C,Egypt Supervised By: Prof. M.Raafat, Prof. Maha El-Gawely, Prof. Hossam El-Kady
For quite long, the GUC architects are seeking a place where both academic and social activities can take place in which students and staff need to set up meetings, discussions, sociable events, and annual exhibitions; an iconic image to represents the Architecture and Urban Planning Department in the university. The course aimed to focus on the investigation and designing of a standalone, module-based Pavilion of 15 square meter area. The form of the pavilion is requested to emerge out of the constitution of single modules connected together as a 3D mesh system. Their designs should simultaneously work on the three main subsystems of a building (Form, Structure, and Interface) together in order to achieve the main idea of associative and parametric design. Softwares used were Rhinocerous with the Grasshopper plugin.

10 THEORY OF PUBLIC SPACES A THEORETICAL DISCOURSE OF SPACE Winter 2014 I 5th Year Undergraduate I Elective I Cairo,Egypt Supervised By: Prof. Vlatka Seremet
A public space, by the default definition, is any space that should be accessible to all the public for them to interact. Throughout my journey in New Cairo, I faced a dilemma in identifying such spaces. Nowadays, the definition of public space has changed! Spaces extend from being gated to being privatized by the specific people and entities which occupy them. These „public spaces“ extend from the less to the most developed areas. These areas may differ in New Cairo, yet their spaces are used in similar ways. People utilize their own spaces under the notion of „privatizing“ for their own benefaction; consequently, different comparisons of spaces were made to highlight the similarities of the activities. For example, a famous restaurant may extend seatings outside its premises to attract more customers. Similarly, but on a more different level, those managing shops in the less developed areas may need extra space to live by. Nevertheless, the same outcome is always achieved: space is privatized and the possibilities are endless! The project consists of a series of cubical animations with certain illustrations done by Cinema 4D and Adobe After Effects.

11 LEARN-MOVE-PLAY-GROUND IMPROVING PLAYGROUNDS THROUGH PARTICIPATION Summer 2012 I 3rd Year Undergraduate I Participatory Design I Cairo,Egypt Supervised By: Prof. Vittoria Capresi, Prof. Barbara Pampe
The playground design of public, primary schools in Egypt, are too often neglected and sometimes lacks the necessary quality that children and students need. The workshop’s idea is to realize friendly and motivating schoolyards through participatory design with children. It is required to improve the quality of playgrounds, where children could spend time, playing, moving around, relaxing, learning together. The methodology is to work together with the children all the way to involve them to do their own products, while only we, adults, act as mediators and facilitators to produce their own designs. First the children were asked to produce abstract models of their imagination and far beyond! The models represented their dreams of the world and places they would love to be in. Second, we took their results and creative models to transform them into implementable architecture that would represent the hidden mechanisms that ruled the children’s creations. Finally, during the implementation stage, we let the children to engage with us to involve them further in the process and to experience their own creations.

12 STUTTGART 22 A MODERN BEACON Summer 2013 I 3rd Year Undergraduate I Hotel I Stuttgart,Germany Supervised By: Dipl. Eng. Kai Beck, Dr. Rowaida Rashed
The theme was to investigate and explore different dimensions of the architectural design process for a Hotel. The site area is around 2500 meter square of three existing buildings which are not used anymore, and we were allowed to reuse the buildings or demolish them for their project. The project took into consideration the new Stuttgart 21, with the site overlooking the new station design. The proposed solution was to design a hotel replacing two archaic buildings to cope with the upgrades that ‘Stuttgart 21’ will bring. After completing the urban analysis, we realized the significance of this plot of land and its demand for an iconic building. Disliking the idea of designing a common high-rise, dense hotel building, we took the initiative of experimenting with a new typology; consequently, we decided to keep the two existing buildings and to start the designing phase on them. The new structures will be held up in the air overlooking the city by tall interconnected and branched columns which penetrate the existing buildings’ shells. This would add unique spatial qualities to the hotel rooms, preserving the heritage of the city and achieving the demanded iconic essence.

13 GOLDEN PERMUTATIONS A REFERENCE MANUAL Winter 2016 I 6th Year Postgraduated I International Competition Jurry: C.Kerez, M.Giudici, B.Holmebakk, N.Fuchs, M.Montresor
Old is Gold. Nature is the primary drive. No matter who designs a building, it is constructed from a blueprint. No matter what an edifice looks like once it’s finished, it’s still assembled from a mixture of natural materials. No matter what the building’s purpose is, the golden ratio was most likely used to determine its proportions. This ratio, 1:1.61, occurs over and over again in nature. It is founded in everything from the shape of our universe, the structure of objects, and even the proportions of the human body. Humans have incorporated it into everything from mathematics, to artwork, music, and eventually it is rooted in architecture’s fundamental principles. A Reference Manual. The intervention is to abstract the idea of spatial formation to its most basic terms to construct responsive spatial frames with dimensions according to the golden ratio. The network of frames will be made of the building industry leftover materials, as metal poles and wood, and will be connected together to create a strong entity. Together they form a visual dictionary, decoding the syntax of spatial experiences as containers for artwork and events. The manual fosters the idea of modularity, sustainability, connectivity, and flexibility.
