VACANCY NOTE FULL TIME POSITION HUMAN DIGNITY AND PUBLIC SECURITY TEAM Place: Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights, Freyung 6 (Schottenhof), 1010 Vienna, Austria Start: 15 February 2012 Duration and scope: until October 2013, full time (40 hours) The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute of Human Rights – Human Dignity and Public Security Team announces a full time vacancy in the field of torture prevention and rights of detainees for the period of February 2012 until October 2013. Background The Human Dignity and Public Security Team, which has evolved from six-year support to the former UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights, Manfred Nowak, is currently implementing a number of projects in the fields of prevention of torture and ill-treatment, and excessive use of force. The project countries include Moldova, Paraguay, Togo, Turkey, and Uruguay. For further information on the team please see http://bim.lbg.ac.at/en/human-dignity-and-public-security. Tasks • Background research on project countries and management of project activities and administration • Communication with project partners, including NGOs, international community and government representatives • Preparation and implementation of project activities, e.g. round tables, workshops, training, conferences in the project countries • Drafting of reports • Elaboration of training materials • Other administrative, research and publication tasks related to the work of the Human Dignity and Public Security Team Required capabilities • University (first) degree in law, political science, international relations or equivalent • Master degree in human rights law, humanitarian law or equivalent • Advanced knowledge in torture prevention or related fields such as security or justice sector reform, policing and human rights, human rights monitoring, rights of detainees, etc. • At least two years of work experience in the above mentioned fields • Experience in giving presentations and trainings • Field experience and experience in monitoring places of detention is an asset • Fluency in English • Working level command of either French or Spanish • Ability to work independently, diligently, and live up to deadlines • Ability to cope with a demanding working environment and with travelling abroad A-1010 Wien, Freyung 6, 1.
