INTRODUCTION

Hi I am Karl May and I have worked online for 5 years, mainly with my local business marketing company. I have created this eBook report to show you how you can make money online from webinars. This is the introductory version or a video training course I am releasing very soon.

2 WHAT ARE WEBINARS Webinars are web conferences, meetings, training events, lectures or short presentations ran from one or multiple people’s computer remotely and shared across even global locations. In other words they are online workshops made possible by internet technologies. Displaying video streamed content and mixing with it voice and video chat all streamed simultaneously across many geographical locations.

3 WEBINARS HOW TO PLAN, PROMOTE & PRODUCE AN EFFECTIVE WEBINAR Webinars can be very cost effective, are proven to increase customer loyalty and generate new streams of business. When planning a webinar the first thing you need to do is ask whether a Webinar is the right solution to generate the desired results you want? Doing this you want to question if a webinar has the capabilities of catering for that result. Webinars are a cheap solution compared with the alternative of say putting on a live event, but they don’t come without cost. Webinar subscription services to deliver webinars can be extremely expensive, so you need to © Karl May 2013

know your numbers and what the desired result is from a webinar. Other things to consider are:  

Who will be speaking on the webinar? What format will the webinar be in?

Will it be?    

One speaker Interview style Panel discussion Interactive

The format can make a big difference to who will be watching your webinar, one speaker may not be a big draw like an interview with a well-known personality in the market. A personality being interviewed may also promote the webinar for you too, meaning you are piggy backing from there following and connections. A panel discussion may also bring in their connections meaning that your reach could be much wider too. An interactive webinar will be engaging to the viewer and will more than likely keep them on until the end. You then need to think of the visuals for your webinar, will they be just screen shares as you demonstrate something or stills put together in advance? If you are doing still or slide presentation then the popular choice would be Microsoft PowerPoint. You should also make the slides visual, less text and use graphics, transitions and animation to help bring them to life. Maybe you will just talk into the camera and have it recorded, either alone or with others. A really important part of webinar planning is choosing a service to run your webinar on. When doing this take into account:     

How many people can that accommodate? How much does it cost? Does it have all the features needed for your webinar? How is the audio handled? Will your webinar be recorded and can this be done with this service?

Before a webinar you should thoroughly test the service out before hand, so you know how everything works and have as little possibilities of problems on the actual webinar. © Karl May 2013

You would ideally want to do this without cost involved so free trials would be of benefit, just in case you realized the service didn’t match up to your requirements after the run through. This will save you money on subscribing only to find out it is not what you want. Before you do a run through there is the task of creating your agenda for the webinar. Workout what content you want to deliver and in what order, plus how that links in with generating the overall goal for the webinar. If your webinar was just put on to create subscribers to a mailing list, then odds are that you promised really good free content and have achieved your goal before the webinar started. If your goal is to sell a product in the webinar that links in with the content and solves the problem for viewers even more so than your original training, then you will most likely add this in at the end of the webinar. You really still should make sure that the webinar does deliver on the promise people had when they signed up, and doesn’t under deliver, even if you’re selling a product that will more than fill the gap then for those that can’t buy you have left a poor impression of your business. This may also put people off the purchase who would have likely bought if you delivered on the promise first, as they may think that you are over hyping the actual product too. After your agenda the next thing would be looking at the equipment that is needed to run your webinar successfully. This is everything from a computer or laptop, the microphone, camera and lighting etc. Work out exactly what you need and if it is of adequate quality to produce the webinar to the standard you require. You also should get familiar with the equipment and setup of it just in case something goes wrong during a webinar, this will ensure minimum disruption to the production. After the equipment is in place, work out the system that will register attendees and remind them that the webinar is going live, plus deliver any other information you think attendees will require before, during or after the webinar. You may be charging for your webinar, in which case the solution to take payment will also be needed. PayPal is a more than adequate solution online to take payments for webinars, although if you do have your own merchant account then this will be fine also. Here are the positives and negatives of charging for webinars: Positives  

Higher perceived value Attendees Usually stay to the end

 

More serious clients pay than freebie hunters Your building your customer list from the attendees

Negatives  

You won’t attract or reach as many people Won’t grow your mailing list by much to market to

Once your system is in place then it is down to the simple task of promoting your webinar. The first place to start would be your own website, write a blog post and even add an events page to your site listing your webinars, some details and links to the landing pages. You could also add banners promoting the webinars to sidebars, footers and above or below posts. If you already have a mailing list then this would be the next place to promote the webinar, send a simple email out, describing what they are going to get out of the webinar, what does it solve and how they signup. Social media profiles are an important tool to utilize in webinar promotion, post links and engaging content that links back to the landing page for your webinar. LinkedIn and Facebook groups should also be part of the promotion strategy, sharing with relevant and active groups can generate lots of interest. You should also set up an event in LinkedIn and on Facebook that links to the landing page for your webinar as others will likely share these generating more interest. Twitter is also a good place provided you have a reasonable and active following. You should also track where traffic is coming from and converting, there are many ways of doing this. One using a service such as bit.ly to shorten and track clicks. You could also have several different landing pages, directing traffic from different platforms to its own unique page so you know which source is performing the best in your marketing. Another thing could be using coupon codes, use a different one for each area you are promoting in, for example your Facebook event code would be a different one to the one on Twitter. You could add an option to your signup form or checkout where attendees enter these as they register.

5 CHOOSING YOUR SERVICE GoToMeeting is generally thought of as the leader in webinar subscription plans and services. They do offer a free trial but the plans then are expensive if you are not going to run webinars that regularly, the commitment to them is quite high. Setting up GoToMeeting is also quite advanced for most people, of which running webinars at first will be a rather out of comfort zone experience to start with, let alone having to master new skills technically too. There are others like Meeting Burner but again many have audio difficulties with this platform when new to it. Meeting Burner does offer free subscription plans dependent on webinar attendees though so is an obvious choice for the newbie, if numbers are going to be low. I have though found an amazing new WordPress plugin that covers just about anything you can get from other solutions, but at a fraction of the cost. There is no monthly fees, no limits on attendees and its simple to setup. The video is relayed through any embeddable streaming service, like Google Hangouts, Ustream or LiveStream.

It has multiple customizable templates that are simple to setup. AutoResponder integration is also included and it works with all the most popular services. You can use Facebook connect for people to subscribe too. Question and Answer chat is also included in the webinar templates and replay pages. Countdown timers can also be added to the replays with ease, as can call to action buttons. In-Webinar Social Sharing (Google Contacts, Google+, Facebook “Invite Your Friends to the Webinar”) is also included in the templates to allow people to share your offer. Attendee analytics are also available within the plugin dashboard.
