About Me
Nationality: Jordanian Gender: Female
2/12/1987 Current Address: Riyadh, KSA Mobile No.: KSA + 966 5 54151384 / Jordan + 962 7 99934011 Email: karmabdeir@gmail.com Birthdate:
I regard myself as highly enthusiastic and driven and have accumulated valuable experience in the field of design and the built environment since graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Architecture from Oxford Brookes University in the United Kingdom in 2009. My education exposed me to the ABC of design; conceptualization and the creative thought process required for the success of any design project. I then pursued my career as an Interior Architect and have been privileged to work and build skills in; interior, exhibition & packaging design, business proposal writing, and project management. I started my professional career at Design Jordan in Amman, Jordan, where the work environment was free spirited and dynamic. My experience there taught me the importance of balancing creativity and logic in my work, this included working on office furniture solutions, exhibition, packaging and graphic design. The second step in my career took me to Beirut, Lebanon in 2011, where I had the opportunity to work with a highly talented interior architect focusing on high-end contemporary residential projects. I learned how to directly deal with clients, and how to create detailed working drawings, materials and finishes selections. I learned how to fit these aspects together to create an aesthetically balanced and functional space. By the end of 2012, I joined Omrania & Associates in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, an Architecture and Engineering consultancy firm, where I am currently based as an Interior Architect. Working at Omrania has exposed me to the corporate side of architecture. I have been working on some of the Kingdom’s most prominent projects such as; the King Abdullah Financial District, the Ministry of Interior among other big scale projects. My exposure to the diverse cultures, markets and project scales within the Middle Eastern region have given me the resilience and knowledge base needed to take me forward in my career, I believe strong work ethics coupled with passion and enthusiasm are my driving force to further my knowledge and contribution to the ever evolving field of design.

Project Brief
Riyadh I Saudi Arabia
The general objective of the project is the development of an expatriate compound to the North-West of Riyadh. The design concept for the compound was the Mediterranean inspired Florida style. The external architecture reflected that more so than its interior, specifically in the residential buildings, which was more of a modern take on the style, keeping it more versatile and flexible for future tenants. The core area offers a village-like series of buildings that will house the majority of community amenities. Different uses are distributed through 5 distinct structures: • The Administration Building • The Cafe Building • The main Clubhouse Building • The Market Building • The Preschool & Fitness Building Residential Units are divided into the following main 3 categories: • Apartments Buildings • Duplex Buildings • Villa Buildings

Project Brief I was hired to design and prepare construction documents for the furniture, ceiling and lighting lay-outs. This included HVAC coordination as well as coordination with the electrical and plumbing. The style desired was a modern take on classical as per my client’s preference, however, some areas like the basement and common areas leaned more towards the modern. Hence the ceiling and lighting followed the appropriate theme per area. 3ds were developed for ease of communication with the client, materials and furniture shown in renders were suggested as design guidelines.

SATTAM PARK site location - Wadi Laban, Riyadh, KSA program - Leisure Park area - 300,000 m²
client - ADA (Arriyadh Development Authority)
project status - Under Construction
Services Provided • Architecture • Interior design
Design Brief Omrania and Associates collaborates with UK based architecture firm Barton Willmore to join forces in designing the highly anticipated Sattam Park, a new passive leisure scheme in the wadi system to the west of the rapidly evolving city of more than 5 million people. The solution was found in diverting the city’s spent irrigation water to create a new 1.5km long river as the park’s central attraction, with a Promenade heavily planted with mature trees, running along its length. This approach ensures that visitors to the park will be able to enjoy some or all of the park’s facilities throughout the hotter periods of the year when the climate can be less inviting. The dramatic topography of the site will result in the buildings often being viewed from above, as people move around the Park. Their roofs can be thought of as the ‘fifth elevation’, which is not normally displayed. The architectural treatment of the proposed buildings makes them resemble large fragments of rock on the floor of the Wadi. Some of the buildings have also been given a fractured plan-form and section. In this way the proposed buildings can be viewed as an inhabited version of the large rocks in the Mist Garden, the rapids of the river and throughout the Park. Wadi Laban I Riyadh I Saudi Arabia

NATURAL CARE SPA site location - Beirut, Lebanon program - Health Spa area - 400 m²
client - Natural Care Ltd. project status - TBD
Project Brief Our client’s desire was to create a spa in the heart of Beirut which offered one of a kind products and services, that being a Dead Sea product line and related treatments. The Dead Sea was one of the world’s first health resorts, and it has been the supplier of a wide variety of products, from balms for Egyptian mummification to potash for fertilizers. The use of its salt and minerals to create cosmetics and natural products has proven quite successful amongst today’s modern society. The interior scheme for this spa, similar to its philosophy, was based on the Dead Sea and its unique characteristics and offerrings. The concept behind the layout was to create a space that is both open and close, public and private, using materials inspired by the rawness of the Dead Sea landscape as indicators for each space within the spa. The main materials used were earthy toned, washed concrete, Tala Maron marbles and drift wood inspired wood cladding, along with backlit frosted PVC to bring some light and saltiness to the space. Our space was one block of floor in an old building on Hamra street, so using the big window facade to our advantage through the layout and materials was tricky but successful, adding directional scattered uplight in the hallways and indirect lighting aided in the creation of the desired overall mood.

Deliverables • General design proposal • Furniture for both floors • Coordination with wall suppliers - Finishes Selections
Design Approach The first climbing gym in Saudi Arabia, the concept of the design was drawn from function and budget. My client wanted something attractive from the outside, simple and clean from the inside and functional in terms of open and enclosed spaces. The centre was composed of two main climbing areas, a bouldering area, reception, product display area, a bathroom, an exercise room, a gym area and enough storage space wherever possible. Concrete and glass were the two main materials used in terms of aesthetic.
