Welcome in „Collect moments” canvas tutorial! Tutorial is made with August 2012 Scraps of Darkness Kit “Jamaican Sunset”.
You will learn about transfer with acrylic paints, some facts about gesso, modeling paste and other stuff ;)
We start from the acrylic paint transfer. You need: canvas, brush, acrylic paint, patterned paper, water will be aided:
spatula or cardboard, heat tool
Cut paper for canvas size.
Paint canvas with acrylic paint. Do that evenly and not too thin.
Place paper on wet acrylic paint. Remember that on canvas will be pattern from the bottom - from the paint side.
Use spatula (or old credit card or something similar) to precise attachment paper on canvas.
Let paint dry. You can use heat tool but remember – paper must adhere to the paint.
Ok, funny part :) Spray paper with water. It must be really wet.
...and rub paper carefully :)
Rub, rub, rub... You can spray more water if you need.
Almost done :)
Get rid of paper flakes using soft brush.
Add really thin layer of paint to get metallic look (if you using metallic paint) or to get more delicate result.
Ok, transfer is done :)
I decided to make 3d effect with masking and modeling paste. Just put mask on canvas and add paste on it.
You can add some liquid pearls...
...or some texture using net, lace, brush, etc.
And here's the trick. If you mist textured modeling paste, color go to cavities :)
But... You know what?... I decided this modeling paste effect is to bold for my project so I remove wet paste ;) I did it with silicone brush. Look – paste acted as a mask or masking liquid :)
Ok, time for frame :) I take beaded trim, cut that for narrower pieces and glued for canvas. You can use glue, hot glue, or modeling paste for that.
Add modeling paste on the top and from external sites. You can use fingers, silicone brush etc.
Done. :) Let it dry. This isn't need to be perfect, 'cause...
...when modeling paste is dry You can sand modeling paste with sandpaper to take ideal shape:)
I paint frame with the same paint which I painted background.
Just add some shading with darker paint.
Now we need to plan the composition :)
Done ;)
I moved embellishments away and glued to the canvas starting from the bottom layers. Flourish was self adhesive. I glued other pieces with glue gun – fastest method.
Ok, project is glued . :) I have one more tip for you with beads. Check left pics how I put beads together. I use thread – not cord – for better look.
I want a softer design so I paint all colorful embellishments with paint (I used same paint to transfer).
Finishing :)
You can make really tiny pearls with Liquid Pearls.
I add some Glossy Accent here and there...
Done!!!
Our project is done :)
I thought that you ask „Ok, but why you used modeling paste? I have gesso. Can I use it? And... not really... Picture on the right show difference with masking work. Gesso is more liquid, paste is thick. Of course there are so many kind of gesso BUT modeling paste is made for making spectacular 3d effects. You can mix that with sand, with glitter, paint... all what You want. :) Enjoy!
