he flagship event of the international season approaches: the closing round of the four CIK-FIA European Championship events at Genk which promises to be the most interesting of the season before the World Championships. The DMSB played well by scheduling the third meeting of the German DKM Championship just two weeks before on the Belgian circuit. There were record crowds and exciting races while allowing many drivers to discover the "Deutsche Quality" at work in what is probably the best current championship.
Young French drivers have had several opportunities to shine in international competition thanks to surprisingly large participation, France being the country best represented in OK-Junior at the European level although there has been no national competition for the category in our country for many years. celebrating the great victory of Victor Martins in Portimao, the remarkable performances of Gillian Henrion, two rookies to follow, as well as the rise of Adam Eteki while Charles Milesi, the leader of the DJKM, and Theo Pourchaire shining in other countries, not to mention Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer in OK or Anthony Abbasse and Jérémy Iglesias in KZ. While a new turnkey OK-Junior Championship has been announced by the FFSA for 2017, the first French Cup for OK satisfied its participants at Mirecourt, except for the tyre limitation. Certainly the 13 drivers present do not represent an exceptional entry, but it's not bad for a first event when we have seen that the international races struggle to gather 30 participants. This race did well to exist and bring a lot of satisfaction to the 100% amateur drivers who committed themselves at a very reasonable cost. Again, the OK category has its place in national competition.

FRANCORCHAMPS A 12-HOUR RACE ...
FOR 24 HOURS!
It's an original idea: on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31th July, Francorchamps Karting will host the 12 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps overnight. During the Total 24 Hours of Spa, this race guarantees more atmosphere than any other.
T
he last weekend of July, the Karting track at Francorchamps will experience frenzied pace. While the Total 24 Hours of Spa reaches its climax on the big circuit, the karting site will also offer many activities. As is customary, there will be of course the opportunity for everyone to rent a kart for one or more sessions from Wednesday to Sunday. But it is mainly the creation of the Spa-Francorchamps 12 Hours which should particularly enliven the scene.
With a start given on Saturday, July 30th in the evening, it's at the heart of the most beautiful circuit in the world and the karting enthusiasts will gather with most of the GT racing world. "We wanted to offer the kart drivers a unique event," says Marc Huby, the manager of Francorchamps Karting. "While the 'big' 24 Hours racers fight to the end, they will participate in a prestigious event alongside them, and that is rare enough to be emphasised, as well as the night aspect."

JIMMY HÉLIAS
FIRST CHAMPION 2016 NSK IN MINIKART The revelation of the year in Minikart, Jimmy Helias won the finals in both events of the 2016 NSK that counted for the championship. At 7 years and a few months, he is one of the youngest of the newly titled younger category and was rewarded with an invitation to participate in Micromax in the Grand Final, the World Rotax event which will take place on the famous circuit of Sarno from 16th to 22th October.
I
n racing Jimmy impresses most. Qualified 9th and 10th at Angerville and Salbris at the wheel of his CRG powered by Cédric Sport, each time he returned to
the lead group for the finals. During the first round, he first moved up in 3rd position after the heats, finished 2nd in the Prefinal and won with the best lap in the Final.
It was more complicated for the second meeting, in very variable weather. Indeed, Jimmy finished the heats in 9th and 10th in the Prefinal. His Final winning return was all the more convincing. Jimmy Helias' first racing season therefore reveals a very promising talent who will now tackle the federal competitions on the momentum of his first victories in Minikart before heading to the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals with Team France in Italy. Heir to a line of drivers, he will be the youngest French driver to take the start of an international competition. As a partner of the series, Kartcom is pleased to offer coverage to the 2016 NSK Minikart champion while the KSP agency has already rewarded with pictures from the NS.

CREATION OF A FRENCH JUNIOR KARTING CHAMPIONSHIP FOR 2017 At the meeting on Wednesday, June 22nd at the headquarters of the FFSA in Paris, chaired by Jean-Claude Sanchez, members of the National Karting Commission approved the creation of the Federation's French Junior Karting Championship from the 2017 season onwards.
F
ive meetings, in a format identical to the CIK-FIA Academy Trophy, will be organised by Christophe Lollier's team, the National Technical Director and Executive Director of the FFSA Academy. Watched throughout the season by the FFSA and the DTN, the top three drivers in the French Junior Karting Championship in 2017 will join the FFSA Equipe de France Karting for young talents and will win a place in the World Championship in OK-J with Tony Kart France or participation in the CIK-FIA Academy Trophy.
"Allowing the best cadet drivers to compete as part of a Junior League with access to OK-Junior and organised in optimal conditions, is our goal for next season. With the French F4 Championship on circuits, a French Junior Rally Championship and now a French Junior Karting Championship, the Federation's offerings are accessible to younger drivers and there is high quality in every discipline, under the label of the federal training centre, the FFSA Academy," said Nicolas Deschaux, the President of the French Motor Sports Federation.
"The creation of this new Junior Championship will allow us to identify future champions at the age of 13 to 15 years, competing on the same sporting and financial terms." "Through this initiative, the Federation strengthens its high-level policy on karting and allows new young hopefuls to benefit from the support of the federal training centre based at Le Mans," said Jean-Claude Sanchez, the President of the National Karting Commission.

KART RUNNER ON THE PACE AT ALL LEVELS
While the middle of the season approaches, Kart Runner is living up to its promises, in both X30 and Endurance nationally and OK-Junior internationally, even if though it's not always easy to juggle the different calendars.
W
illiam Bertrand continues to learn about international competition successfully with a strong focus on the European OK-Junior Championship programme. He came close to qualifying for the Finals in the last two meetings, at Adria (10 places gained in the Prefinal) and at Portimao where his performance improved significantly as evidenced by his second fastest time in the first qualifying heat. "At this level, it's not easy for a young French driver to immediately find his place in the battle in an international squad," explains Olivier Bruneau. "William gained speed, but he needs more experience to handle racing at this level. Regarding the engines, we have already reached a good level with our Vortex DDJ, really not far from the best. With William, we are succeeding in our challenge to develop high-level young driver, leaving the Cadet for OK-Junior, for a very reasonable budget. Kart Runner is one of the few private teams on a human scale currently engaged in CIK racing and we are on the pace. I repeat, it is possible to race
in this international category without spending a fortune. We also build engines for Adam Eteki, a driver more experienced than William, and his performance is quite remarkable. In particular, he was ranked 14th at Portimao after taking 8th place in the Prefinal and posted the sixth time two-tenths faster." In France, Kart Runner has had good success at the Summer X30 Kart at Angerville, the second round of the Stars of Karting. Sebastian Gibier dominated the Senior X30 category with pole position and two successive victories in the Prefinal and Final with the fastest lap of the last race, allowing him to consolidate his position as the leader of the championship. Alexander Leotta remained in 2nd place in X30 Master, up nine places in the Final after his retirement in the Prefinal. Both drivers have already earned their ticket to the 2016 IAME International Final. The French Championship for Senior X30 was more complicated for Sébastien Gibier at Lavilledieu. GROWING INTEREST IN
THE 2016 24 HOURS KARTING
The new title "CIK-FIA Endurance Championship" awarded at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Karting (17th and 18th September 2016), coupled with the emergence of the new OK category, has revived the appeal of this major event with foreign teams resolving to embark on the adventure of Group 1. A few weeks before the registration deadline, the number of applications has already broken records, which promises a thrilling race.
T
he 31st edition of the 24 Hours Karting promises to mark a historic turning point in the world of endurance racing. Held on 17th and 18th September at the Le Mans Karting International Circuit, the event confirms the relevance of the direction taken by the ACO to develop the potential of the discipline, including attracting new renowned players from other countries. The common will of the ACO and the CIK-FIA to internationalise the event gave birth to the new framework of the CIK-FIA Endurance Championship. The aim is to attract manufacturers and factory teams who have so far raced in international sprint, while giving the event an increased worldwide audience. This collaboration has resulted in the application in Group 1 of the CIK-FIA regulations for the new OK category. Powerful and reliable, the recently homologated OK engines evidence a return to the Original Karting with their simplicity, conducive to attracting more participants. Some specific circumstances for the class have been developed.
NEWS
The specialists of the 24 Hours Karting like RTKF, Kart Mag, Wintec and MGT will be joined for this 31th edition by teams who are more accustomed to the speed events, but are determined to meet the challenge of endurance with victory. More open than ever, the competition portends a struggle to record a name in the history of the 24 Hours Karting and win the CIK-FIA Endurance Championship. Entries are open until August 29th, 2016 at midnight, but the limit of 40 teams may be reached before that fateful date. The complete rules of the competition are available for download below, as well as the registration form for Group 1, or contact the ACO or KMO (event co-organiser). Jean-Claud
President of the Nation Info Kartcom - Frédéric Billet © Photo KSP - Philippe Kalmès
"In karting, the human aspect and passion are essential elements."
The holding of the French Championship for Minime, Cadet and National at Lavelanet in early July gave us the opportunity to talk at length with Jean-Claude Sanchez. This great karting enthusiast is greatly in favour of conviviality, and has no shortage of ideas to change the discipline and restore it to its former glory. Jean-Claude Sanchez, how did you begin this long adventure in karting? "For over 50 years I have been in karting. I was 10 when my father built the first Lavelanet track, which soon closed due to lack of safety. It took us time to find a new site with my brother Marc. The federation of the time and Norbert Pradines pushed us to do better than our original plan. From 500 m, we switched to 800, then 1,000 and we ended up with the circuit of 1400 m. To get involved in racing, you must be a little crazy! We never made back the money we put into it, but it's the passion that's important. That said, leisure karting works well, and represents 50% of our business. It is recognised beyond our region and even in Spain. My nephew Fabien has now taken over the daily management of the track. "
ew with
de Sanchez
nal Karting Commission The passion of the competition is not your only motivation?
What is your vision for the future of karting?
"The creation and the life of the circuit, large events like the FFSA Grand Prix, the European qualifiers, the Bruno Grana Trophy, would have never been possible without the presence of a team of dedicated volunteers whom I thank for their tremendous dedication. This human and friendly aspect of karting means a lot to me. We are now facing the problem of renewal of the original team. There are fewer volunteers among young people. Perhaps we will consider installing beacons to replace the marshals posts as was done with the starting lights."
"For me, French karting must evolve for the benefit of drivers, and to do that, we need to listen to their expectations. We are working on redefining the "young" categories and we have given an extra year to refine the new certification that will come into force only in January 2018. The current Minime / Cadet categories fail to properly train our young drivers internationally. The use of rain tyres for example creates bad habits. I'm not in favour of French chassis. I find it absurd that the chassis are not harmonized in Europe and the French models are much more expensive than those used in most other countries. It is no wonder so few drivers from the different karting schools take the plunge in competition. I regularly survey the French School Karting at Lavelanet. The initial investment is often a deterrent to parents. This is not to interfere in the business of manufacturers, but to find them more economical solutions. "
Tell us about your responsibilities at the FFSA. "After 10 years as president of the Midi-PyrĂŠnĂŠes region, I accepted the position of Chairman of the CNK to take over from Jean-Pierre Deschamps who resigned. Initially, I was only committed to 5 to 6 months, and it was too short to launch an in-depth reflection. Because of the changes to the Regions in France, the elections in the CRK and the FFSA have been pushed back to 2017. I have a little more time and I can try to change things. I know this will not happen by itself. We must first gather the convinced and convince others. It's a lot of hard work for all the Commissions to work in the same direction more effectively."
Do you support the detachable spoilers? "I am totally for the adoption, starting next year, at all levels and not just in the French Championships and Cups. Their effectiveness is widely proven and it's not that complicated to set up. A single person can manage the control of spoilers at the finish, as we have already successfully tested at the CRK."
INTERVIEW
And the top level? "As I said earlier, I don't think adequately prepare our drivers for international races. Although this concerns a small number of licensees in relation to all competitors, it is important that France is better represented at a high level. We need to train our young people in driving with real racing engines. The new OK and OK-Junior categories exist, so we must now encourage our drivers to join them. I am surprised that the various importers engines
are not more involved in this field. If everybody pitches in, OK can do well in France. It's still more interesting to go karting in OK rather than go to F4, right? Connected to this, the mandatory age to enter cars is too early. For me, 16 years is the minimum. The President of the CIK-FIA is also in agreement with the idea that we do not let the young drivers have enough time in karting. I will do the maximum to make karting grow during the time allotted to me. I will continue to involve myself after that if I see that things are moving in the right direction."

Jérémy Iglesias
a driver with a big heart - 2/2 Info Kartcom - Frédéric Billet © Photo KSP - Philippe Kalmès
If we talk about heart when it comes to JĂŠrĂŠmy Iglesias it's in two very different directions. As a driver, he is capable of great performances and his sense of attack has nothing to envy the greatest champions, but as a man his generosity and loyalty in his feelings is immediately apparent. In short, Jeremy is an exemplary character in more than one way in the world of karting today. This is a continuation and end of the interview published in Kartcom News # 23.
Family and friends are very important to Jeremy.
I'm here today because of my father. I am aware of the sacrifices he made by working hard to enable me to compete and I shall always be grateful. I am also very close to my brother, Yannick, who I've worked with since I was 17 years old. And now the whole family is behind Louis, my nephew, who is doing very well already in Minikart. Yannick is very serious that his son doesn't miss a day of school to go karting. My father takes care of a lot, they have a great relationship. In the family, we think it would be best to have the character of his father
INTERVIEW and the talent of his uncle! It is true that I have often said that I haven't yet won a major title because I'm too nice! Louis is thirsty for victory. He knew Jules (Bianchi) well, he went to his F1 test in Barcelona. He wants the No. 17 because Jules had it, and because he was born on March 17th! Jules is a role model for him. For me he was the best driver. My dream is that Louis, or my son if I have one, will be in F1 one day to take over from Jules."
"because he's worth it!" Very loyal to his friends, Jeremy has many friends in the community, such as Kevin Breysse and Mathieu Arzeno. But Jules Bianchi holds a special place in his heart. "We were very close, since childhood,
in Minime. We found ourselves on the same team at Maranello in 2005/2006. I often went with him when he went to cars. He always wanted his friends around him and, as I said, it allowed me to experience motorsport through him. When my brother took over the track at Brignoles, it's almost as if Jules had found his track (which belonged to his father, Philippe Bianchi. Ed.) and it even brought us together. We experienced many things together outside of racing. Today, there are plenty of times when I know he is with me." "I also knew Julie Tonelli, since the beginning, and we found ourselves at the international races together. Her death was the first dramatic event that I experienced. For me GĂŠrard (her father) is an example. I often turned
to him when I'm faced with something important. When Jules died, he was the first person I called. When decorating my kart, Julie's pink butterfly is as important as my name on the kart." JĂŠrĂŠmy's racing career is far from over, but that doesn't stop him thinking about the future. "I've been in the workshop for other drivers for a long time. I also give them tips to make improvements and I enjoy it. But I am most passionate about working on KZ engines, a category where you have to constantly develop. I learned the basics of preparation with Tec Sav and Thierry Savard. Now I continue with TM and Franco Drudi. At Brignoles, we have all the necessary machinery in the workshop, including a test bench, in
addition to the track, which is perfect for development. Since last year, I have been able to prepare an engine from scratch and it works pretty well as we got 4th place in the French Championship for KZ2 Gentleman at Varennes with Brice Solarino. I see myself moving
towards engine trade..."
Meanwhile, Jeremy is still a driver in top form. With CPB Sport and Sodi, he is among the best in KZ and will soon compete at Genk in the last round of the European Championship before lining up at the start of the World Championship in Sweden with real chances to do well, to say the least. He can count on many supporters.

MARTINS WINS AT
EUROPEAN LEVEL AT PORTIMAO A
lthough Victor Martins' win in OK-Junior wasn't a surprise it has still arrived earlier than expected. Since the beginning of the season, the driver from the FFSA 10-15 Programme has followed a good upward trajectory. At Portimao, for the third round of the European Championship, Victor was able to achieve a magnificent double Prefinal / Final victory taking advantage of the expertise of the VDK Racing team. The Portuguese heat hardly bothered Victor, well prepared for these conditions by Simumotion through proper dietary protocol. Julien Abelli and his team have also helped the young driver secure the fruits of the work put in place
since the Adria race. The last element of the winning puzzle, Victor's Kosmic / Parilla, prepared by VDK Racing and his brother Nicolas, gave him the ability to impose masterfully in the final stages of the competition.

HENRION A REVELATION AT PORTIMAO GILLIAN-HENRION.COM
G
illian Henrion entered a new phase at the third round of the European OK-Junior Championship at Portimao. While the fighting was more intense than ever on the Portuguese circuit, Gillian spent the early meeting in the lead group. A racing incident during Prefinal 1 prevented him from shining through, but his overall performance did not go unnoticed. Gillian's progress during his first international season in OK-Junior has surprised many. At Portimao, he demonstrated vision and a surprising maturity for a driver so young. He deserved to have better chances of fighting in the closing stages, instead of losing places because contact. But the work of Etienne Management, One Engines on the Vortex engine on his Kosmic chassis and by Adrian, his mechanic, portends other conclusive results by the end of the year. Since his 13th place in Qualifying - 4th in his group at 58 thousandths off the leader - Gillian did exceptionally well in the qualifying stages at Portimao. Two wins, one 2nd place and three fastest laps in the heats are unusual for a rookie in the European Championship. Gillian was 3rd on Saturday evening, holding great promise for the Final phase. His more experienced opponents went on the attack with some aggression in Prefinal 1. 5th at the start of the last lap, Gillian lost six places after a stampede. It was the same on the first lap of the Final, with a particularly perilous moment in the pack. Gillian went back as best he could to 20th position, a result that may seem disappointing in the light of its previous performance. But the qualities that he has shown at Portimao are real and represent a great step forward in his young career. No doubt he will have the opportunity to prove his potential very soon, why not at Genk?

TAOUFIK PIASTRI AND KEN AMONG THE BEST IN OK-JUNIOR AT PORTIMAO
NNEALLY
A
lthough the final victory didn't reward the work done by Ricky Flynn Motorsport at the third European round in Portugal, the performance of several of its drivers, however, did not go unnoticed. The harshness of the track during battle sometimes worked against the potential of the team, even though the team had managed the specifics of a difficult meeting admirably. In this respect, significant changes in competitiveness were seen between the different phases of this competition which cannot be due to the competence of the team. The lack of consistency between the different sets of the tyres provided to the participants in the event has often been singled out, apparently with good reason. A major player on the international scene, RFM is able to again take a leading role in a month at Genk at the last round of the 2016 CIK-FIA European Championship. Fin Kenneally was on course to achieve an exemplary meeting in OK-Junior at Portimao. After taking pole position in timed practice against over 70 drivers, he confirmed his pace in the qualifying heats with four wins in four races. Strangely, his performance fell a notch in the closing stages and he had to settle for 11th position. He nevertheless remains well placed in the standings with 4th postion and a small gap to the leaders. Oscar Piastri managed one of his best performances in the Algarve by winning two heats and his Prefinal with the fastest lap. Shoved out of the Final, he came home in the top 10 in the end. Sami Taoufik was strong early on among the leaders before taking five positions in the Final, and finished in the top five, which allowed him to move into 10th position in the championship. The young Niklas Kruetten met with many uncertainties in the heats before being eliminated from the start of his Prefinal. An accident victim from the second qualifying round OK, Logan Sargeant rectified the situation by going back in the pre 7th place and the fastest lap before experiencing another abandonment early in the final and now finds himself fifth in the championship . Sun Yue Yang met some difficulties to find the right rhythm and his rally was shortened by a consecutive penalty to a technical problem.

The Belgian Xavier Handsaeme was at the front forward from the time trials and continued his momentum in the heats. But the return of the Briton Callum Bradshaw was confirmed with his win in the Prefinal, with the Spaniard RubĂŠn Saura Sabater taking 3rd place behind Handsaeme. Kasparas Vaskelis (LTU) sprang ahead of the Final when Bradshaw was relegated to 7th and Handsaeme returned to the lead from 4th position. The leader before halfway, Handsaeme was subject to a penalty of three seconds. However, he managed to cross the finish line as the winner with a lead of 3.2'' from Bradshaw followed by Vaskelis on the podium. Bradshaw remains well ahead of the standings, Handsaeme is now neck and neck with Hansen, Clarke and Nilsson.

the young French hopeful
A
fter a fabulous 2015 in Mini David Hadrian has upped the pace again on arrival in the older category, for 11-15 year olds. With numerous successes since the start of the 2016 season, he has been crowned French Champion at Lavelanet and is in the lead in other prestigious competitions such as the Belgian Championship and the NSK. Really, nothing can stop the great hope of French karting. A talented driver, noticed since his debut in Minikart where he had multiple successes, Hadrian David was a revelation in the Minime category in 2014 and 2015. Last year, he has won the French Cup,, NSK championship and the Rotax Challenge France Final and the Regional Championship Ile-deFrance.
The title of French Champion had escaped him because of a lane exit penalty from a final and he had to settle for 3rd place. Racing in the Cadet category in 2016, he approached the French Championship at Lavelanet with great determination, looking for revenge. The competition proved to be hotly contested in the Ariege between the 65 Cadets entered in the national competition.
The weather was changing from a heavy heat on Friday to a wet freshness on Saturday before returning to the good weather, but not too hot, on Sunday. Hadrian opened the debate by setting the fastest time of the five official timed practice sessions on Friday. He then won three qualifying heats out of four and was still in the lead of the intermediate classification on Saturday night. Hadrian started the Finals with 2nd after an impressive comeback. He continued the rally by winning the other two finals indisputably. The score was clear: Hadrian was crowned French Cadet Champion with a total of 287
points, 41 points ahead of 2nd. "It's a reward that I share with all of CĂŠdric Boisroux's CBK team!" Hadrian said after the podium. "A French Championship title is a very special honour for a French driver, and I'm very happy to have managed to win the last at Lavelanet. The competition was not easy, but I was very fast and I calmly managed the finals to reach my goal." Already leading the Cadet class after two of the three events of the NSK, Hadrian is also able to raise the French colours in the Belgian Championship where he
also leads before the last event. The 2016 season confirms Hadrian David's great potential among the young French hopes. Meanwhile, Hadrian is already preparing his transition to International racing in 2017 in OK-Junior with strong ambitions. He has already signed a two year contract with Dino Chiesa, the Zanardi brand creator and current team manager of CRG Racing Team. Hadrian's performance and highly promising potential have indeed attracted the attention of the great name in karting, who played a major role in the success of great champions such as Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg.

A French Championship full of lessons for the young
T
he most important event of the 2016 season, the French Cadet Championship took place at Lavelanet in changeable weather. The youngster Ugo Gazil took the opportunity to enrich his experience and consolidate his recent gains against the top specialists in the category. Various issues didn't make it easy to score a flattering result, but the outcome of the competition in Ariege was very positive in view of his overall training. Having recently started entering national events, it was his third race at this level, and Ugo Gazil is still learning the driver's trade under the watchful eyes of a team completely dedicated to him and managed by Didier AndrĂŠ. "Ugo has made significant progress in recent months," said the boss of DADD. "He is able to perform well, such as in the NSK at Salbris, but his inexperience sometimes leads to some inconsistency. This is perfectly normal for a young driver who has only two racing seasons behind him. It was also the first French Championship we contested together. Thanks to recent
developments, we have raised the bar by preparing a more effective chassis, but it's less easy to drive and less forgiving of mistakes. This is a deliberate choice from the perspective of training for the long term. The current goal of the team is first to prepare for Ugo's future, pushing his habits to change his driving. Although this can be unsettling at the time, it is essential for the rest of his career." After the 17th lap out of the 65 entered, Ugo achieved good qualifying heats, between 4th and 7th. The third race on Saturday, however, began with an incident when he was hit at the start on a wet track. He was back in 20th position in the intermediate classification instead of a possible top 10 for the finals, with the consequence of having to face the risk of crashing in the main pack. The exercise was however not uninteresting and allowed Ugo to enjoy his excellent physical condition and fighting spirit to go right back into the thick of it. He fought with good persistence and regained ground despite some unfortunate contacts, to finish the championship in a very honorable 13th.
"The competition at Lavelanet gave Ugo a significantly enriching experience. It was very educational for him to have to face difficult conditions compared to the intensity of the races," concluded Didier AndrĂŠ. "In parallel, the team reached a new milestone. I am particularly pleased with the synergy that has developed between the engine by Alexandre Ravoire of RK Competition, Kevin, Ugo's mechanic, and Christian Boudon, an engineer who has just joined us. These very competent people collaborate effectively and we are well equipped for the future, even if though it hasn't translated in terms of results at this event."

The poleman from Qualifying on Saturday, Florian Venturi (FA Kart / TM) started last in the Prefinal, but used fewer tyres which allowed him to quickly go to the front and take 2nd place in front of
Julien Sanson (Sodi / TM), and behind Arthur Carbonnel (Birel ART / TM). Venturi then flew to the Final victory over Sanson and Carbonnel and in that order on the podium, while Medy Ghrib (Kosmic / TM) and Alexandre Vromant (Sodi / Parilla) completed the top five.

"Free practice went well, finishing 2nd twice. It is quite positive to be in front early in the weekend. We continued to work with the team to confirm this in qualifying. You rely on slipstreaming at this track, but anticipating and taking advantage remains difficult. My two pole positions this weekend mark clear progress." Lando Norris had the best start in Race 1. Dorian was not left behind and even attempted an attack. "It was a little difficult to follow in the fast corners with slipstreaming, but I was able to maintain pressure throughout the race, while posting the fastest lap. I spoke with my engineer for Race 2 and we established a new strategy that has paid off."
The roles were indeed reversed in Race 2. Norris took the lead at the first corner, Dorian attacked shortly after and the Briton replied in turn, but it ended with Dorian definitively taking control and he flew to victory with a comfortable lead of nearly 2'' on Max Defourny. Again the fastest in timed qualifying on Sunday morning, Dorian couldn't benefit from pole position to start Race 3. "My clutch slipped when the lights went out. I think the temperature was a bit high. I lost time in trying to pass Scott in the early laps. I ended up 5th as my pace was also excellent. I probably had the car to win." He ended up in 3rd place this time with another fastest lap.

The fight for the places of honour proved very open between Gilles Magnus and Javier Cobian who equally shared the 2nd position on the four podiums, while Michael Benyahia finished 4th three times and Chevalier was 5th three times. Yifei Ye of course kept his 1st place in the French Championship with 378 points ahead of Gilles Magnus (212 pts), Pierre-Alexandre Jean (151 pts) 3rd, Hugo Chevalier (141 pts) 4th and Javier Cobian (137 pts) 5th.

F4: HUGO CHEVALIER STILL IN THE TOP THREE
CAR
A
t Magny-Cours, on the circuit that was long the theatre of the French Formula 1 Grand Prix, Hugo Chevalier recorded numerous points in the top five, three out of four times out with an excellent standard of performance. He was even close to victory in one of the races, before a brake problem occurred. Currently in 3rd in the French F4 Championship, Hugo Chevalier has every intention of not letting up until the end of the season. Physically and mentally, Hugo Chevalier was ready to face the fourth of six meetings of the French F4 Championship. "With the heat at Magny-Cours during the weekend, it is true that the intense physical preparation that I have pushed myself with for several months has been very helpful," stressed the young French hopeful. However, he was not satisfied with his time in the qualifying session. "I was still 6th in the last free practice session on Friday. In timed practice, I was again among the best at the start of the session, but several of my rivals improved their time and I fell to 11th place. I will analyse the situation and change course for the next race. Not being able to start at the front has seriously complicated my weekend."
Leading the race ... In Race 1, the driver from Upper Savoy knew he had no room for error if he wanted to join the top 10 and enjoy a more advantageous position in Race 2. At the end of a solid performance, he took 8th and with the benefit of the reverse grid for the first 10, found himself 3rd for the start of the second race on Saturday. "I managed a great start and I quickly took command. Alas, when I had been in the lead for several laps I had a problem with the rear brake pump at the Adelaide hairpin. I went straight on and unfortunately I lost four places with three laps to go." Very annoying!
Still on the pace With a smoothly conducted race and very incisive driving, Hugo Chevalier would post his best performance of the weekend in Race 3, moving from 11th to 5th place in the space of 11 laps. Hugo was close to improving this position in a lively Race 4. "There were great duels in the pack and I really pushed to the maximum. I felt good and in terms
of performance, I was very fast, but a safety car slowed the pace of the race a bit." The Auto Sport Academy driver achieved a third consecutive top five on the difficult circuit at Nièvre. "I scored 34 points during this meeting, which allows me to retain all my chances of finishing in the top three overall in F4 and the French Junior Vice Champion." These are goals that Hugo Chevalier will be keen to achieve at the end of the last two 2016 events, September 10th-11th at Le Mans and in Barcelona on 5th-6th November.

MICHAEL BENYAHIA ON THE ATTACK AT MAGNY-COURS
CAR
O
n the former F1 circuit of Nevers Magny-Cours, the young Moroccan hopeful Michael Benyahia has shown good progress in his ability to fight with rivals and to manage his passes, which were some of his objectives for this meeting. He managed take three 4th positions in the four races of the weekend and now finds himself well placed to compete for 3rd place in the French F4 Championship at the end of the season. The fourth of the six events on the programme took place in sweltering heat on the 4.4 km of the famous Magny-Cours track. Michael Benyahia's performance was not comparable with that of last year and his progress over the last twelve months has proved genuinely impressive for such a young driver. After a quite satisfactory qualifying session - 5th and 4th times - he approached the competition with a double challenge, according to the strategy established in collaboration with his coach, Stéphane Daoudi. He needed to gain places to ensure maximum championship points while avoiding taking too many risks and dropping back, as his joker has already been used during the incidents which he suffered early in the year. Race 1 started with a slight annoyance, as Michael's car had difficulties starting when leaving the pits. The technical team of the FFSA Academy intervened quickly and everything returned to order just in time to settle on the starting
grid. He reacted perfectly st the lights and immediately put pressure on the two drivers ahead of him. He let the gap grow at halfway to cool both his engine and his tyres before coming back very hard on his opponents in the final laps to finish in 4th place.
points from 3rd before the last two meetings where he will have a good chance of aiming for the podium of the season.
With P5 on the grid for the third race, Michael was slowed in his tracks by a difficult driver to overtake. He analysed his rival's weaknesses before deciding where he would launch his attack. At the second attempt the manoeuvre succeeded and he seized 4th position when braking on the inside line at the entrance of the 180 ° turn. He was then quickly closing on 3rd and 2nd, but eventually finished 4th.
Qualifying Practice: 5th and 4th best time and second best time Race 1: 2nd and 4th Junior Race 2: 11th Race 3: 2nd and 4th Junior Race 4: 4th and 2nd Junior
The 4th and final race of the weekend was one of Michael's most spectacular. Starting from the second row, he immediately launched an assault on the top three. Here, a rival took the opportunity to overtake. Michael did not immediately respond, preferring to gain ground on the leaders. At halfway, he used his momentum inside the fast right Estoril on the limits of the track to achieve the overtake under braking at Adelaide. After a period under the Safety Car, he set off again in the wheeltracks of 3rd, but the chequered flag came out to finish the race before he could attempt another attack. As expected, the differences are narrowing in the leading group once past the mid-season. Michael remains totally in the fight, only 17
