SPORTINGNESS VS INJUSTICE, THE CONTRADICTIONS OF RACING
The recent incident between Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc at the Formula 1 Grand Prix of Austria puts the eternal conflict between sportsmanship and injustice back on the stage. This news curiously brings to the surface an older confrontation between these two prodigies, during the 2012 WSK Euro Series at Val d'Argenton to anchor the story of a long-standing rivalry. It is certain that the general public is fond of a confrontations where everyone can take the side of their favourite, forgetting all objectivity. Sport is definitely not the domain of impartiality, contrary to what one might believe or hope for, it is after all only a reflection of humanity.

KARTCOM NEWS #52
Does the show feed on injustice? It is the main focus of wrestling matches and also applies to most sports disciplines, except perhaps curling or throwing tree trunks. Some recent examples in kart racing are thought-provoking. The Final of the European KZ Championship at Sarno first saw Anthony Abbasse being accompanied off the track by Matteo Vigano at the start, then Simo Puhakka mounting Alex Irlando on the second lap, minor incidents which however upset the result of the Championship. Can we point the finger at those responsible? The debate is open and everyone forges their opinion from a chair via video. Is it bad luck, un-
dervalued risk-taking or deliberate bad intention? Only the competitors involved know, but do not always divulge. As social networks show more and more every day, accusing others is the most popular sport among homo sapiens. Meanwhile, the audience explodes. Ultimately, it is the steward who bears all the wrongs by making or not making the expected decision. Some participants are sufficiently disappointed to leave the stage, but most others add the injustice, real or imagined, to the long list of the hazards of racing that they face. Injustice is part of life, it is a certainty, and the variety of possible reactions builds the framework of our lives. In any case, we have to deal with
EDITORIAL
KARTCOM NEWS #52 inequalities and continue our journey, accepting or rebelling. In the end, the winners often draw strength by overcoming adversity, as the human species has always done since its appearance on earth. To return to the subject, you cannot help but be more excited when an incident occurs. On the other hand, one can try to preserve a minimum of humanity and not encourage one's weaker instincts. The media often forget it, but the public plays an important role in choosing to watch or not, even if they have to turn the idea over seven times in their brain before clicking.

2019 KARTING 24 HOURS FULLY INTEGRATED INTO THE ACO'S ENDURANCE PROGRAMME
For the fourth time, the FIA Karting Endurance Championship will take place at Le Mans within the 34th edition of the 24 Hours Karting from 27th to 29th September 2019. Like last year karting will share the poster with the very popular 24 Hours Trucks as part of a dynamic established by the ACO.
T
he seventh of the eight events of the FIA European Truck Racing Championship, the 24 Hours of Le Mans Trucks each year attracts a very large audience regularly reaching 55,000 spectators. The ACO decided to continue the synergy initiated last year between the two events by again scheduling them on the same date to promote endurance karting. Holders of a 24 Hours Truck

ticket will have direct access to the karting circuit located in the direct vicinity of the Bugatti. The first experience in 2018 showed that this twinning was beneficial to both disciplines. In 2019, the GP1 karts of the FIA Karting Endurance Championship will be equipped with new MG tyres, capable of providing great driving sensation. The GP1 field is still far from being
fully known, but the presence of the 2018 winner, Sodikart is confirmed, determined to defend their title. The CRG factory will also be represented with a team centred on its star driver, the double World Champion Pedro Hiltbrand, and some French drivers. The internationalisation of the competition continues with the announced entry of two German teams, one British and one Czech in addition to the specialist French teams. True to its priorities of rigour, fairness and accessibility, the Automobile Club de l’Ouest has not forgotten the other categories competing for the 2019 24 Hours Karting. Several measures have been taken in order to increase the
attractiveness of the great Le Mans classic among endurance enthusiasts from all walks of life. The ACO and KMO (promoter of the 24 Hours) therefore wished to introduce the Junior GP category in place of GP3 in order to clearly target the Junior drivers who can use OK-Junior, Rotax Junior or X30 Junior engines. On the other hand, it was decided to increase
the maximum number of drivers in the GP2 and GP Junior teams from four to five, with the advantage of allowing a greater number to discover the magic of racing for 24 hours non-stop while allowing an individual reduction of budgets. Finally, the minimum weight allowed for the GP2 category has been increased from 160 to 165 kg. The goal is to harmonise the chances of the majority of the board.
Four months before the start of the 34th edition of the 24 Hours Karting on Saturday, 28th September at the Le Mans Karting International Circuit, the ACO is setting the pace for the world's biggest endurance event so that every fan can find their place in this legendary event.

JULES BIANCHI UNVEILING OF A COMMEMORATIVE STATUE AT BRIGNOLES
Jules Bianchi made his debut in karting at the circuit of Brignoles, owned by his father, then gradually built an exceptional career that would bring him to Formula 1. On a disastrous day in October 2014, an accident in the pouring rain at the Suzuka circuit plunged him into a deep coma and he died in July 2015 at the age of 25, as a result of his injuries.
W
hile the FFSA Karting competition this weekend makes its big comeback to Brignoles, a bust representing Jules was inaugurated in front of the track reception building during a moment of intense emotion, in the presence of his family, his friends and his many fans. Funded by a subscription, the work by François Chevalier was unveiled after the official speeches and a brief speech by Philippe Bianchi.

REGENERATION FOR KARTING
SPA-FRANCORCHAMPS There were many people in attendance on Tuesday for the inauguration of the new infrastructure of at Karting Spa-Francorchamps. Although the circuit itself has not changed, the complete renovation of the buildings has rejuvenated the Ardennes track. Whether for racing or for leisure, this new project anticipates a bright future.

F
or more than 25 years, Karting Spa-Francorchamps has been an essential venue for thousands of tourists to discover karting, as well as for hundreds of enthusiasts to practice their sport. How many ambitions are born on the complex, situated inside the "most beautiful circuit of the world"? "Everyone knows how karting is a key pillar in the pyramid of motorsport," said François Cornélis, the President of the Royal Automobile Club of Belgium, the owner of the site. "This is where almost all of our current champions started. And beyond a school for young talent, karting is also a discipline in its own right for many amateur drivers. We are therefore very happy to be able to give organisers and competitors a modernised framework for running competitions." Having hosted qualifying events for the European Championship in the early 2000s, the kart track at SpaFrancorchamps is still an essential element of the Benelux competitions. The drivers appreciate its fast aspect and the races are often very spectacular. Five years ago, the laying of a new surface had already greatly contributed to the renovation of the site. But the infrastructure was insufficient for a circuit that wanted to be state of the art. The work done at the beginning of 2019 will alleviate this deficit!
Totally renovated, the main building now meets all expectations. With an area of 1.200m2 (double the size of the past) and more than 500m2 of outdoor terraces, the space can now accommodate groups of up to 300 people. With an area of 250m2, the clubhouse and its brasserie will guarantee pleasant moments of relaxation. As for the redeveloped offices, they will provide the necessary space for the officials of the various competitions organised at Karting Spa-Francorchamps. In addition to a briefing room (which can also serve as a seminar room for 60 people), the "Penthouse" will serve as a meeting room with a magnificent panoramic view of the 1092 metres of the track. The amateurs on leisure karts have not been forgotten either. The changing rooms have been modernised and a new fleet of rental karts from the prestigious French brand Sodi awaits both individuals, groups and companies wishing to organise an event in this prestigious setting. A few months after celebrating 25 years in operation, Karting Spa-Francorchamps has just completed a magnificent makeover to address the future with optimism.

BRIDGESTONE TIRES RESIST SARNO'S HEAT During a particularly hot FIA Karting weekend at the Sarno circuit, the tyres were also put to the test. We asked the Bridgestone staff a few questions to shed light on the excellent performance of Japanese rubber in Italy.
19
What really were the temperatures of this exceptional event?
during the races, but still quite high. It was a real challenge for the human beings and machines with 34° in the air and 49° on the track.
During practice, the ambient temperature reached 38° C while the track temperature was between 52° and 55° C. During qualifying, we recorded a temperature of 35° in the air and 50° on the track. Temperatures were slightly lower
How the Bridgestone face this situation?
KARTCOM NEWS #52
We are proud of the performance of our product. The Bridgestone YNB
tire has perfectly fulfilled its mission to serve our customers in the best possible way in all conditions, including very hot temperatures. In the past, when regulations allowed competition between tire manufacturers, the best lap time was the main objective and Bridgestone was in a dominant position. Since the introduction of the single brand tire regulation, it does not matter if a tire is one or two tenth faster than another. Durability, consistency and wear are what matters, and the tire definitely provide this.
Did you give any specific advice to the drivers? No, not really, our tires are designed to fulfil the criteria set by the CIK, to cope with all conditions throughout the season and that's what they do! The Bridgestone YNB tires were used in
March on the same Sarno track in much cooler conditions and pole position was achieved with a time of 56''286. This weekend, with an extremely hot track temperature of around 55°, Lorenzo Camplese was the fastest in qualifying with a time of 56''279, a clear proof of the quality and consistency of the tire and
Bridgestone's manufacturing process. Of course, in such extreme conditions, tire pressure management is very important, but in fact, it is always the key to success, regardless of the weather.

YANNICK IGLESIAS KART IN PRO Known in the community as the boss of the Kart in Pro team, Yannick Iglesias is also the manager of the Brignoles circuit, a recent development that allows him to secure the financial aspect and opens new horizons through the organisation of important races like the recent French Cup for Minime, Cadet and National which took place in Brignoles at the beginning of June. During a long interview, Kartcom was able to discuss different aspects of kart racing together. The conversation was constantly lively! Yannick, can you describe your career in karting? I was of course a driver, but I became more involved in the racing department
27
KARTCOM NEWS #52
from 1997, when Kart in Pro was created. I naturally took care of my brother Jeremy. We won the Manufacturers Trophy in Cadet, the equivalent of the current French Championship. The results progressed when we worked with Sébastien Foti for engines. I
quickly took over the management of the team and logistics, rather than the technical aspects. What I liked was solving everybody's problems. The team grew with the arrival of new drivers and results rewarded our work. Now we take care of everything, including engine development. Fabrice Pignon, my partner, is responsible for the chassis tuning and the engine preparation on the test bench. My dad and my brother are also involved in this aspect of the competition. It's a family business, Fabrice is also part of the family. My domain is the management of the drivers and the organisation of the team. We focus on the youngsters, in National and Senior, X30, but we are also one of the few teams to be able to race in all
categories, up to KZ2 depending on the availability of Jeremy who is an official driver for Formula K in KZ. Passion drives us above all else. It's the adrenaline rush that gives us pleasure in competition. The goal is to win for our drivers. If we add up the expenses, the time and the energy that we devote to it, the profit is very small. The smile of a driver and his thanks are our reward. We are not here to promise a career in F1. We are in karting to aim for victory while having fun.
How do you analyse the current situation of karting in France? We must be honest, kart racing is declining. I imagine that the FFSA has its own constraints, but for a racing team, the regulatory changes pose big problems. We are told that the new categories will be more economical, but in reality this is not the case at all. When technical regulations open the way for interpretations by teams or controllers, it is harmful for karting. Tenders do not take into consideration the reality of use. We would have to do comparative tests beforehand. It has been said that the new Senior X30 category is economical. We could debate that... The price of some parts has already increased and we need to replace them more often. The purchase price is not the only criterion to take into account. Karting is more expensive than before, that's a fact, but you can still race according to your budget as long as the categories are well thought out. We
28
INTERVIEW
will test more or less according to his possibilities, but if the talent is there, the results will follow. Some parents stop their children racing because they do not have the same budget as their neighbour. It is a mistake. If the child understands how to drive, he does not have to race a lot to succeed. For me, this is the only point that really changes: the excessive emphasis on the budget.
What is your opinion on the youngest categories and the future Mini currently being approved by the CIK-FIA? The Mini class will be fully homologated at the end of the year. It is reasonable to think that international championships will then be put in place. European Championship, World, we do not know in what form, but the trend is there. Some people assure us that it is not possible, but I am less and less convinced. It will be very close to the 60 Italian Mini. It has the reputation of being expensive, but it is because of the engine technical regulations in WSK. With stricter regulations, we no longer have this problem and we have more equality. Otherwise, the category is very good, the engine is very reliable. I think that France must take this evolution into account which will perhaps bring about a revolution.
29
KARTCOM NEWS #52
The Minime FFSA category is very well implemented, apart from the choice of the IAME Gazelle recoil starter. The Cadet category clearly has a concern with the tyres. It is necessary to adopt an unnatural driving style to go fast. The use of very hard tyres does not achieve its goal of reducing costs. In the end, everyone buys more sets and the behaviour is not good for training young drivers. Several French drivers are now racing in 60 Mini, all of a high standard and winners in France. When my son Louis started last year, he was leaving Cadet. He finished 40th and top French driver. Now, we are happy to see a few more French drivers enter the top 20... Louis was more competitive out of Minime than after a year of Cadet. It took him six months to regain his level. Spot the mistake! In France we already have the same chassis. We could very well use the same 60 Mini engine, which costs only â‚Ź300 more than the current Gazelle, for 8-12 year olds and use real racing tyres. We could keep the National, which works very well for 12-16 year olds, or, let's dream a little, push OK-Junior to the front of the stage. We would have a coherent path for young people with a long-term vision that takes into account the practices of other countries. Tjr Mini category will open on the international level and would be a shame if the young French drivers are penalised compared
to their foreign neighbours. Finally, tell us about the French Cup for Minime, Cadet and National at Brignoles! The French Cup went well at Brignoles, we are happy to have done it, there was a great atmosphere and most competitors were satisfied. But it's a lot of work, more than I imagined. It was very enjoyable, but also a big workload for us, for the club and for the League. We have to provide a lot on top of the federal endowment, there is a real imbalance. The organisation of a FFSA meeting pushes us to improve our facilities. It's a good thing and it's good for the image of the track, the drivers in the area are happy, but it's not easy. It allowed me to change my view of organisations. When dealing with a team, we often point the negative aspects of a competition. Now I understand better the point of view of the organisers who do what they can with the means they have. The management of electricity in the paddock is a good example. Everyone must feel responsible for their consumption. Unwinding the extensions would avoid many problems without even mentioning superfluous devices that penalise everyone.

DINO CHIESA "IN A TEAM, THE HUMAN FACTOR IS ESSENTIAL"
Born in 1967, Dino Chiesa is one of the most respected and iconic team managers in the paddock. His career started as a driver in 1980, then quickly as a technician from 1984, where he supported the victorious karting careers of drivers like Alessandro Zanardi, Lewis Hamilton, Nico Rosberg, Nyck De Vries, Lance Stroll and many others. He has reached yet another dimension by starting to win with its own chassis brand KR. This new machine is already a champion, which is also to the credit of everyone around him throughout the season and who have been faithful to him for a long time already. You have attacked a second year with Kart Republic and the KR chassis, which were homologated by the CIK-FIA on 1st January, 2018. What first
31
KARTCOM NEWS #52
assessment have you made from the beginning of the adventure? Honestly, I am very happy, the current situation exceeds my most optimistic forecasts. Creating a team with my own brand of chassis was a project I had had
in mind for some time already. Since last year, it has become a reality and I do not regret it.
Did you expect such results in the first season of Kart Republic in 2018? The FIA Karting World and European Champion in OK was something incredible. Of course, I thought I could do best in this category. For the previous two years, I was team manager at CRG when Pedro Hilbrand became World Champion, then I held the same position at Zanardi when Danny Keirle took the world crown. I am also fortunate to have a strong partnership with the IAME factory, which provides me with high performance engines.

INTERVIEW
Is the goal now to win as much in other categories? The teams that race with our chassis have allowed us to win many victories in the Mini categories and in the brand challenges. We also have had great satisfaction in OK-Junior and KZ2. In 2018, Rick Dreezen became FIA Karting World Vice-Champion in KZ with a KR-IAME package. This is encouraging because the engine is still under development. The Pex brothers now use our chassis, so it will be interesting to see how the rest of their season will unfold, using TM Racing engines.
Kart Republic is currently a large team. You have also formed partnerships with other entities. Can you talk about it? Thomas BraumĂźller's TB Racing Team was among the first to trust us and he managed to take Hannes Janker to the title of European Champion in OK in 2018. Hannes also finished as Vice World Champion. Last year, Nico Rosberg wanted to get involved in karting and he turned to me to take care of the technical part of the Rosberg Racing Academy. Together, we put Lorenzo Travisanutto on the road to the world title.

KARTCOM NEWS #52
Since the start of the season, Sauber Racing Team has wanted to be present at all stages of motorsport, from Karting to F1. We are in charge of the two karting drivers, Dexter Patterson and Joshua Dufek. Rickard Kaell, who has been working with me for a number of years, manages this pair. As another team involved in both karting and cars, there is CV Performance Group, which runs Lorenzo Travisanutto in 2019, with several victories already! The KR brand can also count on other private teams. It's true that all of this is a lot of responsibility. The day-to-day management remains difficult, but it's also very exciting.
What is the strength of KR today? Apart from the equipment, I can count on excellent technicians, whom I trust, because we have known each other for many years. Some have been there since I launched the DC-one brand in 2003. At that time, I had not managed to build enough structure to work in the long term. From now on, everything has changed! This is proof that the human factor is of great importance at all levels. We must manage very young drivers, but also their supporters, as parameters to take into account. Today, I have more time to think about technical and strategic choices. We have about 45 people working with our drivers. Each of them spends more time at a track than with their own family!
Very often your drivers manage to make a difference compared to the competition. What is your recipe? First of all, it is essential to have a chassis that can come straight from the assembly line and be effey in all conditions, with as many different tyres as possible and with settings close to those recommended as standard by the manufacturer. This objective implies perfect tube quality and adapted parts: seat, stub axles, rear axle, etc. In this way, it's possible to concentrate on the details, knowing that the most important thing during a race is the use of the tyres and the choice of their pressures. Making them work at the right temperature is crucial.
In the end, is the role of the driver still important? Of course, I even think it's essential to win. In OK or Junior for example, at least 80% of the finalists have the equipment to win. Only the best manage to reach the podium.

EUROPEAN MEETING IN SWEDEN The third round of the OK & Junior European Championship took place in Sweden at the Kristianstad circuit, where the Ricky Flynn Motorsport team had already had the opportunity to showcase the extent of their skills. Nevertheless, the particular sensitivity of the track to weather changes always creates a difficult competition to manage for the mechanics and the drivers. This year, Harry Thompson was very competitive during the Qualifying Heats in OK, while Thomas Ten Brinke and James Wharton finished the meeting in the top 10 of the Final.
A

James Wharton and Thomas Ten Brinke regularly had good performances during the Qualifying Heats, but a retirement for the Dutchman and an incident at the start of the third race for the Australian limited their ascent. More consistent at this stage, Christian Ho recovered effectively in the Final. Ten Brinke then made a superb nineplace progression in the 21 laps of the Final to finish 7th, which put him in 2nd place in the Championship standings. Wharton also came back to 9th while Ho was fighting for 14th place. After qualifying in 32nd position, Conrad Laursen set out to catch up and finished 17th. Ugo Ugochukwu, Martinius Stenshorne and Laurens Van Hoepen did not reach the Final this time after battling incidents in the heats. Harry Thompson was competitive as well as combative in Qualifying Heats in OK. 17th fastest, he was 4th at the start of the Final after being a regular in the top three of the heats, including a win with the fastest lap in the race. Harry was unfortunately relegated to the back of the pack in the confusion of the first lap of the Final. He gave his all to finally recover 15 places at the finish.

COLUCCIO BACK ON THE PODIUM IN SWEDEN Already 3rd in the World Championship in OK in 2018 at the Kristianstad circuit, Luigi Coluccio and the Birel ART team have returned to the podium at the Swedish Kart Grand Prix, thanks to determination and great competitiveness. The Italian completed a magnificent attacking race to return to 3rd position after his start from 6th and took the opportunity to return to the top of the provisional ranking of the European Championship. There was also much satisfaction from the other drivers in the team.
T
he trends of the beginning of the season were confirmed during the third of the four events of the European Championships for OK and Junior, with an extremely elevated standard of competition, as well as a Birel ART team focused on the performance of its drivers. The Birel ART karts from the Italian factory adapted perfectly to the conditions of the Swedish track, which changed continuously over the course of the meeting.

OK: DESERVED TOP THREE FOR COLUCCIO "As soon as I arrived in Sweden, I had a very good feeling with the equipment," commented Luigi. "I managed the 2nd fastest time of my group at the time, although I was disappointed that it only put me in 10th overall. I continued to attack hard during my five Qualifying Heats, winning twice. In the Final, the start of the race was difficult, the track
was quite slippery. I gradually improved my position, finally climbing on the third step of the podium. I would really like to thank the team and the engine manufacturer, they have done a great job here in Kristianstad. It's really encouraging for the second half of the season." Although Alex Irlando was unsuccessful after retiring early in the Final after a collision, Andrea Rosso was much talked about for his comeback. "This season Andrea is participating in the F4 Italian Championship and has managed to find a good feeling for his return to karting at this very high level of competition," said Luca Filini, the team manager of the Birel ART Racing Team. "He got stronger, finishing 4th in his last heat and moving from 26th to 21st in the Final."

A penalty for Bertuca and a retirement for Vayron did not allow these two drivers to show their deserved level of performance in the Final but they continued their efforts regardless. Bertuca gained four places to finish 18th and Vayron 13 positions to finish 20th. "We continue to support all our drivers in their progression," added Luca Filini. the overall standings among the 90 drivers at the wheel of his VDK Racing Team Kosmic / Iame. The Qualifying Heats did not start as well as one could hope for. Undoubtedly intimidated to start from the second row at the age of just 12 years, Maxime failed to give his best in the first two heats. He lost ground in the first and left the track in the second. Where others might have been discouraged, Maxime immediately knew how to analyse his mistakes and build a new strategy with his coach Didier Blot. By the third heat, he was returning to the pace and was able to take 2nd place shortly after the start before dropping formidable opponents and achieving the fastest lap in the race. The fourth heat on Saturday confirmed the form of the young Luxembourger in the top three, able to threaten one of the most prominent protagonists to the finish, again setting the fastest lap in the race. On Sunday morning, faced with competitors intrinsically faster on new tyres, he ensured another new 3rd place on used tyres during the last heat.
FIRST QUALIFICATION FOR AN FIA KARTING FINAL
T
his allowed Maxime to qualify for his first European Championship Final in 19th place out of 91 competitors, after only three FIA Karting races in his new OK-Junior category.
And this Final proved difficult. He lost a few positions at the start before being caught in a collision and ending up in last place after five laps. But still combative, he regained 10 positions at the chequered flag by regularly improving his speed. "I'm always disappointed when I do not finish at the front of the Final," said Maxime. "But it's my best race weekend since the beginning of the season. Because when I made mistakes for lack of experience, I immediately learned and reacted. And it's a real pleasure to be able to drive as fast as the top drivers in the last three races. I think my performances did not go unnoticed for my third international OK-Junior participation. I still have to learn, this is the goal of this first season in the European Championship, but I am more and more comfortable in the Junior competition." A very positive result for this Swedish weekend that saw Maxime race among the best European drivers of the moment, all much more experienced than him. Maxime will now prepare for the second round of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy where he will defend the colours of Luxembourg at the Italian circuit of Sarno from 13th to 16th June before focusing on the last leg of the Junior European Championship which will take place in France at the Le Mans circuit from 19th to 21st July.

LECONT TYRES OPTIMUM PERFORMANCE IN SWEDEN
The issue of tyre wear was frequently at the heart of the drivers' and teams' concerns during the Swedish Kart Grand Prix at Kristianstad. As the European Championship for OK enters its decisive phase, LeCont tyres continue to contribute to the success of FIA Karting meetings, thanks to recognised manufacturing quality.

A TECHNICAL AND DIFFICULT TRACK, BUT LECONT IN CONTROL
"I
am particularly pleased with the Swedish meeting, both in terms of the effectiveness of our tyres and the consistency," said Paolo Bombara, Marketing Manager at LeCont. "Kristianstad is one of those circuits that change a lot throughout a meeting depending on temperature fluctuations, the presence or absence of the sun and wind, which sometimes blew hard during this competition. Despite these difficult to manage parameters, I want to emphasise the excellent performance of our products right up until the chequered flag of the Final. Our slick tyres are competitive and easy to operate whatever the conditions, while it is very important to understand our "rain" tyres. Knowing that they are distinguished by their great endurance, even on a drying track, it is necessary to use the optimum pressure, according to the conditions, within a very wide range." As far as the factory is concerned, the attention paid to each stage of tyre manufacturing is constant, in order to ensure an exemplary supply to the drivers. This was confirmed during this race in Sweden, which confirmed the strength of the partnership between LeCont and the FIA
Karting Championships. "Sportingly and technically, this adventure is exciting," says Bombara. "We remain attentive to the expectations of the various stakeholders in karting. I particularly hear about the regulation that allows drivers to manage the two sets of tyres allocated for the event as they wish. Several competitors would be in favour of finding a solution, in order to allow the drivers to race under the same conditions during the last Qualifying Heats and the Final. We share this opinion, but we trust the CIKFIA to make the best decision possible."
BATTLE FOR THE CROWN
A
t Kristianstad, the show was spectacular, especially during the first laps of the Final, with a breathtaking clash between Dexter Patterson, Pedro Hiltbrand, Lorenzo Travisanutto, Gabriele Mini and Luigi Coluccio after which Travisanutto won despite the efforts of Mini. 4th behind Coluccio, Patterson narrowly retains the lead of the European Championship in OK, but the last event scheduled for July at Le Mans promises to be incredible for the title rivalry between Patterson, Travisanutto and Mini.

"T

"By the time I came back to 2nd position (on the 5th lap), the leader had already widened the gap. I was able to accelerate in the second part of the race and I gradually got closer to the leader. It was a significant risk to try a manoeuvre and I preferred to take the

The fastest lap of the Final, one-tenth faster than the winner, as well as the 3.9" separating him from 3rd confirmed the real chances for Mini' during this event. SULEIMAN ZANFARI THE RISE CONTINUES IN SWEDEN
In the wake of his first European top 10 at Genk (BEL), Suleiman Zanfari further improved his score by reaching 8th in the Final at Kristianstad (SWE). His Swedish event was not easy after a strange drop in performance between Free Practice and Timed Practice. T
he third round of the FIA Karting European Championship - Junior took place from 31st May to 2nd June 2019 on the Åsum Ring track near Kristianstad, the same one where Suleiman had made a remarkable comeback to kart racing a month earlier. This time the weather was more spring-like and rain did not disrupt the running of the races. The driver from the Moroccan club OCK raced a Tony Kart / Vortex with Team Ward Racing and was already very fast in Free Practice. His official timed session was unfortunately not as good as he could logically have hoped for. Starting in the third session, he had to cope with slightly less favourable track conditions and his 8th time turned into a 26th overall position.
Starting from the 5th row during the Qualifying Heats, Suleiman adopted a relatively cautious strategy to avoid frequent incidents in this phase of the competition. His great consistency, even when he had to face competitors who had put their new tyres on early, was paying off as he had already taken eight positions and was this time on the 9th row of the starting grid for the Final with a new challenge to take up.
68
INTERNATIONAL
As usual making a great start, Suleiman continued to regain ground over the course of the laps with an explosive cocktail of fighting spirit and calmness that now characterises his new style of driving. After 21 laps driven in full attacking mode, Suleiman finished 8th, a place higher than at Genk and another top 10. "The entire Swedish weekend was perhaps not as exciting as in Belgium, but the end result is at least as rewarding," Suleiman said. "Everything went well at Ward Racing although Kristianstad's European competition has always been tricky. I had to regain ground without making mistakes. I think that I fulfilled my mission, and in any case I did my best. So I am satisfied, although I can only regret what happened in Timed Practice. It is certain that the race would have been different if I had started closer to the front in the heats." Well supported by the advice of the great champion Davide ForĂŠ, his coach since the beginning of the season, and his mechanic Gabriele Bassetta, Suleiman is more motivated than ever to get a very good result at Le Mans next month for the conclusion of the European Championship, delighted to race under the colours of Joakim Ward's team. The driver supported by Cool Performance will also intensify his preparation in the coming weeks.

David Vidales (Tony Kart / Vortex) took the lead after the heats in front of Senna Van Walstijn (KR / TM), but he was eliminated from the Final in a collision after the start. Vidales led 3/4 of the race by firmly resisting the growing pressure of a trio of Frenchmen: Emilien Denner (Sodi / TM), Paolo Besancenez (Sodi / TM) and Jean Nomblot (Sodi / TM). Once Denner had managed to blow up the Spanish lock, his compatriots followed suit to complete an extraordinary tricolor podium consisting of two CPB Sport drivers surrounding Besancenez from his private team. Riccardo Longhi (Birel ART / TM) returned to 4th but failed in his quest for the title, Palomba finishing 5th ahead of Pollini. With 8th place, Sweden's Emil Skaras (Energy / TM) won the European Championship.

BIREL ART TOP PERFORMANCE AT SARNO
The Birel ARTs of the Lissone factory's official racing service impressed with their top performances at the Sarno circuit during the second round of the European Championship. Alessandro Irlando in KZ and Riccardo Longhi in KZ2 positioned themselves as serious favourites in the double title race. An incident unfortunately eliminated Irlando as he began his ultimate run to the European crown, while Longhi, making a great comeback, just missed the win in the Final clash. "That's racing, we all know it's hard and sometimes unfair, but it's the passion we all share within Birel ART since its inception 60 years ago," said Luca Filini, the Racing Team manager. "In the evening at Sarno, we have mixed feelings. Of course, we have not yet achieved our goal of victory, and it is always annoying. But we were very good performers and that pushes us to continue our work every day with more motivation. The goal is now to do everything possible to shine during the World Championship."
Among the multiple reasons for satisfaction at Birel ART, its presence at the European peak of the gearbox categories is particularly pleasing. In the KZ category, which brings together the best drivers in the world, the rise of Alessandro Irlando since the beginning of the season has been noticed.

IRLANDO SO CLOSE TO THE GOAL
A
fter setting the 2nd fastest time in Qualifying, Irlando improved steadily, finishing his heats with a victory and two fastest laps. Well placed on the front row of the start line of the Final, Alessandro had an undeniable advantage in front of his main rivals for the title. He started perfectly when the lights went out and took the lead of the race after a few metres. Unfortunately, an impatient rival attempted an attack on the second lap and went over the Birel ART, condemning him to retire. Until now unobtrusive in the heats, Marijn Kremers made an interesting comeback in the Final which gave the team the consolation of a top five with the third fastest time for the last European KZ race of the season.

Heats. Riccardo repeatedly regained between four and six places in each heat, thanks to the competitiveness of his Birel ART / TM Racing which allowed him to set three fastest laps. This beautiful recovery of 15 places was worth it to start from the third row of the Final starting grid. Despite all his efforts, it was not enough to win the title. In a last, hotly contested race, he returned to 4th place with the third fastest time. The performance level of the team was confirmed by the gain of 17 places in the Final for Leonardo Marseglia who finished in front of the very consistent Pierre Loubère. Starting from a distance in the Qualifying Heats, Andreas Dahlberg had three great runs but could not qualify for the Final because of a double retirement. The Birel ART Racing Team is now preparing for the next European OK and OK-Junior meeting at Le Mans before thinking of the two world events in September in Finland and at Lonato in Italy.

CPB SPORT AND SODI WINNERS AT SARNO & EUROPEAN VICE-CHAMPION IN KZ2

KARTCOM NEWS #52
At Sarno, the CPB Sport Sodi-TM karts have amassed an outstanding trophy collection in the final round of the European KZ2 Championship. Emilien Denner took the victory and the opportunity to finish as 2019 European Vice-Champion. On Italian soil, Jean Nomblot completed the French team's triumph by mounting the podium, highlighting the very high performance of the Sodi chassis.
T
he KZ2 Final unleashed the passions at Sarno, with a breathtaking show on a track perfect for 125cc gearbox. 4th and 5th respectively on the starting grid, Jean Nomblot and Emilien Denner threw themselves into the battle for victory, aware of the high potential of their machines, as explained by Jean Nomblot, a young and talented hopeful in KZ2, when he got out of his kart. "I felt extremely comfortable with the equipment throughout the meeting. With the CPB Sport team, we prepared for this great international event at Sarno by participating in the Trofeo Grifone, the WSK and the Trofeo Pagliuca, which I won at the beginning of June. I finished all my heats in the top four, winning on one occasion and finishing in 3rd place, while taking three lap records. I still achieved the fastest time of the Final, tied with Paolo Besancenez! The victory was close, but I am very happy to be on the third step of the podium."
A GREAT SHOW IN THE FINAL
I
n fierce heat and a track with strong grip, the CPB Sport team prepared the Sodi-TM karts with impressive competitiveness. Emilien Denner gave everything to take the lead of the Final four laps from the finish and triumph with skill and style. "I was looking forward to this moment," said Emilien. "I think it's a deserved victory for our performance." "This is our fifth victory since the beginning of the season, but obviously the most spectacular," said Paul Bizalion, the CPB Sport team manager. "There was a great emotion in seeing our two drivers Emilien Denner and Jean Nomblot on the podium, with Émilien on the top step and Kevin Cuoco receiving the best team manager cup. I would also like to congratulate Paolo Besancenez for his 2nd place, which allows Sodi to achieve a hat-trick in a country where karting is king! A year after Adrien Renaudin's title of in our colours, we are again very satisfied to become European Vice-Champion with Emilien Denner. We must not
forget that behind this fabulous result, there is a lot of work and investment, a valuable partnership with the Sodikart factory, outstanding technicians, an equally intense support to our other drivers and a perfect collaboration with our engines." Daldosso Racing powered Emilien Denner and Galiffa Kart was in charge of Jean Nomblot's TMs.
OTHER VICTORIES TO PURSUE IN 2019
T
he desire to make progress for all the team's drivers remains a constant at CPB Sport. Experience is important at this level of competition and Vyacheslav Putyatin (Ukraine), Mark Villem Moor (Estonia), Daniel Lindholm (Sweden) and Jovan Pavicevic (Montenegro) will have learned a lot at Sarno. CPB also welcomed the comeback in the Final of the Frenchman Hubert Petit (+13) and the Italian Lorenzo Giannoni (+12). The 2019 season is far from over and CPB Sport has many more challenges ahead, starting with the upcoming WSK races, the rest of the German Championship (DKM) and the FIA Karting International Super Cup - KZ2.

ENERGY CORSE SEVENTH EUROPEAN KZ2 CHAMPIONSHIP
With a new crown in Italy with the Swedish driver Emil Skaras, Energy Corse is more than ever the most successful team in KZ2 over the last 15 years. In total, Energy Corse has seven European KZ2 Championships, a World victory and a 2nd place in the KZ2 International Super Cup, a European KZ Championship and countless podiums in the FIA Karting events! After the magnificent success for Skaras at Wackersdorf, "Energy Power" still shone over Sarno!

Energy Corse continues to be present at major events, thanks to ongoing equipment development work, incredible commitment from every member of the team and unconditional support for its drivers. "After my victory in the first round of the European KZ2 Championship in Germany, I knew the competition would be sharper than ever at this final event in Italy," said Emil Skaras. "The Sarno weekend was never easy, we had to fight constantly and work hard to stay in the leading pack. The important thing was not to make mistakes and manage my lead in the Championship. I finished every heat in the top six and I was able to score enough points in the Final to take the title. The Energy Corse team has done a fantastic job since the beginning of the season and I also thank my engine builder, Galiffa Kart. Many big teams are involved in KZ2 and it's great to be able to beat them in this European Championship!"
der of the German Junior Championship (DJKM) when he arrived at Wackersdorf, the Dutchman Robert De Haan added two superb victories to his record and widened the gap in the overall standings. De Haan is also a major player in the European Championship, as evidenced by his 4th place in the Final at the Belgian Grand Prix at Genk.
Energy Corse enabled Isack Sjokvist, also from Sweden, to join the starting grid of the Final thanks to remarkable progress in the Qualifying Heats.
In France, ClĂŠment Outran has taken two very important victories in Mini: at Brignoles during the very competitive French Cup and at Laval in the IAME Series. And in Russia, the Ni Racing Energy Russia team dominated the third round of the Championship on the Kursk circuit. This meant we saw four Energy Corse chassis in the top four places of the Super Mini category, as well as a magnificent double in Mini!

Denner was the first to overcome the resistance of their common opponent, followed by Besancenez and Nomblot, who set another fastest lap in the race. Like a parade, the three Sodi spent the final laps in the top three and achieved a historic treble in front of their dumbfounded rivals. "It's very important for our brand to contribute to the success of drivers and private teams. All deserve to be warmly congratulated. I am sure that the Sarno demonstration will not go unnoticed. Unfortunately we did not experience the same success in KZ where the European Championship escaped Anthony Abbasse because of an incredible collision at the start. The Final that would lead him to the title of European Champion in KZ only lasted a few seconds for Anthony Abbasse who started from the second row. MAXIME FURONCASTELAIN PROGRESS DESPITE ADVERSITY The young Luxembourg "lion" Maxime Furon-Castelain has confirmed his steady progress at the forefront of the Academy Trophy despite a technical problem.
T
here was a change of scenery for the second round of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy: after the winding circuit and cool weather of Wackersdorf (DEU), the young talents of the karting world found themselves, in a heat wave, at the Sarno (ITA) track near Naples in mid June. On this circuit with a
long straight requiring excellent engine power, the young Luxembourger Maxime Furon-Castelain confirmed his rapid progress by facing the vagaries of the engines with great determination.

A
lthough overwhelming, the heat did not affect Maxime's usual fighting spirit during the weekend. Temperatures often exceeded 35° during the day while the track reached 55° at the foot of Vesuvius. On a circuit that he was learning while racing, Maxime was immediately on the pace by posting the fastest time of the first ses-

sion of Free Practice among the 48 participants from 45 countries. He confirmed his speed and his understanding of the fast pace at Sarno in Qualifying with the 3rd fastest time in his session, only 25 thousandths of a second from the leader of the Trophy, a remarkable performance for this rookie which placed him in 7th place overall, progressing since Round 1 at Wackersdorf.
The Academy Trophy race service did not immediately take Maxime's mechanical problem into account and only changed his carburettor to let him start again in the second heat with the same engine block. Always penalised by his engine, Maxime managed to snatch 8th place in the middle of a turbulent group of drivers who were much faster than him, thanks to his commitment on the track.

"T
hanks to my good practice results, I was confident of performing well in the Qualifying Heats," said the Luxembourg representative in in this international competition. "I did not suspect then that I was going to have to fight with an engine which lacked punch! The usual change of engine by draw was not favourable to me. During the Warm-up on Saturday morning, I had the unpleasant surprise of finding myself very far from the lap times I had achieved so far. Instead of a few hundredths or thousandths that I was missing in practice, the deficit with the leaders sometimes reached a second a lap in the first heat, which is huge in this competition where everyone has the same equipment. In these conditions, I managed to make no mistakes during the entire race and to finish in 10th position with the 22nd time".

e started on Sunday morning with another engine, faster this time, and surprised his opponents in a shotgun start in the third heat where he seized 2nd place. During the six laps, he was fighting a breathless battle on the track against much older and more experienced drivers, immediately returning to his 2nd place as soon as one of his rivals managed to overtake him. Unfortunately, he made a bad choice when attempting to protect his position on the last lap and crossed the finish line in 7th place. "The sanction was immediate, many of my opponents overtook me in one fell swoop, but I will remember the lesson! Despite my technical problems, I managed to qualify for the Final again, in 12th place, better than at Wackersdorf".
COMMITMENT PAYS OFF IN THE FINAL
A
t the start of the Final, Maxime lost time, baulked by the poor start of the driver ahead of him and forced to go wide at the first corner to avoid a collision. He was only 16th on the first lap, but Maxime did not give up and started to attack in a tight pack. Highly motivated on the last lap, he managed to recover 12th place in the Final results, still progressing compared to Round 1 at Wackersdorf. "This competition was more complicated than expected and I am not unhappy with my result in these conditions. I still learned a lot about racing at this level and I got closer to the top 10: a good experience! I want to thank VDK Racing for technical support, my loved ones and the ACL for the support and encouragement. We were all delighted by the presence of Felipe Massa, President of the CIK-FIA. The organisation by the CIK-FIA and RGMMC was perfect and the Circuito Internazionale Napoli personnel showed remarkable efficiency. A special mention for the official announcer, Jake Sanson, for his infectious enthusiasm in the race commentary." The next big international FIA Karting meeting for Maxime Furon-Castelain will take place in a month on the Le Mans circuit (FRA) at the last round of the OKJunior European Championship.

FRENCH TEAM PERFORMANCE AND SETBACKS AT SARNO
The two young drivers of the 2019 French FFSA Espoirs Karting Team showed a good level of performance during the second round of the FIA Karting Academy Trophy which has just taken place in Italy at the fast track of Sarno. Elliott Vayron was as quick as he was unlucky while Mattéo Spirgel confirmed his progress among the 34 finalists.
103
he 2nd meeting of the Academy Trophy took place in hot weather with temperatures exceeding 35°. The Circuito Internzionale Napoli has characteristics that are diametrically opposed to those of Wackersdorf, where the season had started a few weeks earlier. At Sarno, speed matters with a long straight and quick corners.
T
Only five laps were actually available to find a favourable position to use the slipstream phenomenon while enjoying the best potential from their new tyres. This complicated exercise did not allow them to achieve a time that lived up to their expectations and they ranked respectively 14th and 17th out of the 47 participants.
In the official Free Practice, the two Frenchmen could be satisfied with their performances as Elliott Vayron finished with the fastest time of his group and Mattéo Spirgel with the 2nd in his group. Unfortunately, they did not find the same speed during the official Timed Practice.
Elliott Vayron started badly by not completing a lap in his first Qualifying Heat. He recovered perfectly in the second, finishing 6th with the fastest lap in the race. Unfortunately, he was heavily penalised after contact with an opponent and the penalty of 10'' lost him 16 places.
KARTCOM NEWS #52
He was 5th in the last heat when the race was interrupted due to a minor accident. At the restart, Elliott did not find the same ease and dropped to 8th on the finish line, while he had achieved a great 3rd fastest time. The verdict was final, ranked 40th he did not qualify for the Final. Mattéo Spirgel did not always manage to be as fast in racing as he was in practice. Anxious not to make mistakes, he was often too cautious not to lose places against more seasoned opponents. He nevertheless achieved a good qualification in 16th position on the starting grid of the Final, a clear improvement over the previous competition in Germany. He made a good start in 13th position, but then dropped back in the various fights that enlivened the 17 laps of the race and finished 21st. "We were hoping that our drivers would react after the first round at Wackersdorf and that's what they did," explained Marc
Berteaux. "Mattéo did the right thing to compete in the Final, that was his goal and he achieved it. He is a very young driver just out of the Cadet category and he is still too soft so far to face much more aggressive opponents. We will work with him to correct this for the next event. Elliott has all the qualities to get very good results: he is very fast, he likes to fight, he is lacking almost nothing to succeed. We will do everything to help him give the best. At Sarno, he was not lucky and his excellent potential could not be realised. However, I have full confidence in him."
An international one-make formula, the FIA Karting Academy Trophy offers very good training to the young drivers of the French Team FFSA Karting Espoirs. Well supervised by Marc Berteaux, Didier Blot and Julien Ménanteau, they can take full advantage of race weekends to enrich their experience and progress. They will meet again for the last event at Lonato, again in Italy, from 20th to 22nd September. Competing at the same time at Sarno, the FIA Karting European Championship - KZ2 was marked by an extraordinary 100% French podium for Emilien Denner,
Paolo Besancenez and Jean Nomblot, which allowed Denner to become Vice-Champion ahead of Besancenez. Eliminated prematurely from the KZ Final by a collision, Anthony Abbasse was not able to be crowned as he deserved. He still finished in the European top three. Under the captaincy of Yvan Muller, the 2019 French FFSA Espoirs Karting Team consists of Mattéo Spirgel and Elliott Vayron.

he meeting was very lively before the coronation of Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart / Vortex). Simo Puhakka (Tony Kart / Vortex) dominated Qualifying and the heats before falling heavily in the Final. Anthony Abbasse (Sodi / TM) came back to 2nd at the end of the heats but disappeared in the Prefinal. Matteo Vigano (Tony Kart / Vortex) complemented Ardigo's success in the Prefinal. Marijn Kremers (Birel ART / TM) attacked Vigano in the wake of Ardigo, while Emilien Denner (Sodi / TM) passed Bas Lammers (Sodi / TM) and managed to climb to 3rd place. A strong winner, Ardigo also won the WSK Euro Series. Kremers and Denner were on the podium, followed by Vigano and Lammers in the top five.

ALEX POWELL PODIUMS AND PERFORMANCES IN ADVERSITY
A member of the Mercedes-AMG F1 Junior Programme, Alex Powell is continuing his brilliant career in the 60 Mini category. After two new podiums including a victory, the young Jamaican kart racer has positioned himself among the contenders for the Italian Championship with the Energy Corse team. Less successful in the WSK Euro Series at Lonato, he took the opportunity to demonstrate his mental strength and to make a remarkable comeback.
OBJECTIVE: ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP
W
ith the vast majority of the 60 Mini international events held in Italy, Alex Powell has made the European country his second home. The Italian Championship started from 9th to 12th May at the highly technical circuit of Castelletto di Branduzzo. The Jamaican driver took three top results in the Qualifying Heats, but a scramble on the first lap of Final 1 caused him to

lose several places and Alex could only save 8th place. Still determined, he took his revenge in Final 2 with a masterful victory after a faultless race in his Energy Corse-TM... A month later in Siena, the Jamaican was in great shape. He won three Qualifying Heats out of four and secured pole position for Final 1. Again, the first lap did not go as well as it might for Alex Powell, who dropped quickly to 7th place. The win was moving out of reach, but he did not give up and crossed the finish line in 4th place. Final 2 again produced a
spectacle of great intensity and Alex manoeuvred skillfully to gain three places at the very end of the race to mount the third step of the podium. He is now in 3rd place in the provisional classification of the Italian Championship after two meetings out of five. His goal of taking the title remains on the agenda...

T
he 60 Mini pack proved to be both large and talented at the third of the four events of the WSK Euro Series, organised at the circuit of Lonato which is still very popular with drivers and international teams. On the track, several battles punctuated the races and Alex could not avoid a serious racing incident. His chassis was damaged and it was to take lengthy work from the mechanics for the team to repair the equipment.

In addition, he was demoted to 25th overall in the Qualifying Heats. Alex Powell used Prefinal A to take several places, before continuing his progress in the Final. He spared no effort to overtake many of his opponents, and the 11-yearold driver eventually finished in 7th position, far from his original goal! However, Alex has increased his points total and remains a contender for the final podium of the WSK Euro Series.

KREMERS CLOSE TO VICTORY AT LONATO Birel ART Racing showed very convincing performance levels at the Lonato circuit in the WSK Euro Series, both in KZ2 with Marijn Kremers and Riccardo Longhi, as well as in OK with Luigi Coluccio and OK-Junior with Rafael Camara. Kremers was able to shine up until the end of the Final with a superb 2nd place that earned him a 3rd place finish in the WSK Euro Series.
T
he third round of the WSK Euro Series was an important event for the gearbox karts on the South Garda Karting track, where the KZ World Championship and the KZ2 International Super Cup, two world-wide FIA Karting competitions, will take place. The WSK Promotion meeting took place in beautiful and increasingly warm weather with lively races where incidents tempered the ambitions of some drivers. "We had the satisfaction of showing a very good level of competitiveness," said Luca Filini, Team Manager of Birel ART Racing. "Our top three drivers in KZ2 were very close to the pace of the best. Kremers proved it by going back to 2nd place while Longhi and Irlando lost ground in racing incidents. We are undeniably on the right track and we will still be working hard until the world

meeting in September. Coluccio saw his good progress in OK stop during a Prefinal incident, while Rafael Camara had a good performance in OK-Junior."
KREMERS ON THE PODIUM AND 3RD IN THE KZ2 STANDINGS
M
arijn Kremers started strongly with the 2nd fastest time of the 80 KZ2 drivers present at Lonato. With three 2nd places and a fastest lap in the Qualifying Heats, he was making the most of the potential of his Birel ART / TM kart with Bridgestone tyres. Kremers improved again in the Prefinal and fought with great conviction to reach the second step of the Final podium by
narrowing the gap with the winner in the final laps. This excellent result allowed him to make a spectacular jump from 8th to 3rd place in the final standings of the WSK Euro Series. Also very fast since the beginning of the competition, Riccardo Longhi was fighting in 6th position of the Final when a collision dropped him to the back of the pack in the last third of the race. He still managed to finish 6th in the WSK Euro Series. Alessandro Irlando ensured

two great heats before facing setbacks. However, he managed to finish in the top 10 of the Final as well as the overall classification.
TOO MANY INCIDENTS IN OK
L
uigi Coluccio was one of the protagonists of the OK category. In 8th place of the 51 participants after the Qualifying Heats, he could logically anticipate a good qualification for the Final. Unfortunately, a puncture in Prefinal B caused him to progressively lose ground and he could not finish the race. Andrea Rosso was 12th in the Prefinal after Qualifying stages which were not always simple, but he was eliminated on the first lap of the Final after a contact. Nikita Artmonov qualified thanks to good consistency in the heats, but he was also forced to retire in the Final.
GOOD START IN OK-JUNIOR FOR CAMARA
R
afael Camara had three good Qualifying Heats in the top three after his very good 4th fastest time among more than 70 drivers. He then had some problems before being able to react in the Final and reach 12th place, while Cristian Bertuca qualified on the 12th row for the Final.

"It was a very, very good weekend for me," said Theo. "The pace was there, the results too. In the third race, I went from 8th to 3rd place, which was great. I love racing like that, with so many passes. Now I am looking forward to the Hockenheim weekend that we share with Formula 1. I intend to continue my successful Red Bull Ring progress."
