FOR HISTORIC KARTS
The craze for Historic Karts has continued unabated for several years. The movement is growing around the world, with the organization of demonstrations showcasing the restoration work and the engineering of the pioneers of karting that ensured the discipline could become a popular sport with unprecedented growth. The CIK-FIA celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2012 at the Coppa dei Campioni at Jesolo (ITA), before setting up a demonstration of Historic Karts, the Historic Super Cup in 2013 at the KZ World Championship at Varennes (FRA). This year, the CIK-FIA wants to intensify its publicity efforts around these two events.

IN PRAISE OF SIMPLICITY The start of the 2014 F1 season with the introduction of the new hybrid powertrain, causes puzzlement about the purely sporting value of a Grand Prix like Melbourne. Has there not been a loss of the simplicity of the cars since the 80s?
Major advances in terms of safety were achieved in 94-95 and probably marked the biggest revolution in the discipline since its inception. But is the intensity of racing always there with these sophisticated machines? What do the regulations really do about the increasing complexity and the gigantic budgets now required?
It is difficult to find arguments in favour of this complexity. Does a top athlete really need a clutch and an electric starter on his machine? The front and rear bumpers have had harmful side-effects but their advantages seem to be very small. Safety improvement comes more from planning and development of the tracks than the kart itself. One area where progress could be more substantial... The The disappearance of simplicity also extensive use of electronic controls to contaminated karting, with a time delay, deter any bad behavior or injustice. at the start of the 2000s. Current machines may seem more attractive, and What seems certain in consequence the paddocks more flattering, but are the is that we have lost a large number of races more exciting, the performances participants at all levels, and a lot of the more enthusiastic, or the drivers more spectacle and the fun of driving. The brilliant? As in car racing, the financial pace of the F1 Grand Prix gives us time aspect is now playing a major role in the to ponder the subject ... career of a driver at the expense of pure talent. How many great talents are now without a future due to a lack of budget in a discipline that has been a worldwide success thanks to the simplicity of its origins?

PAROLIN, THE HIGH TECHNOL QUALITY AND INNOVATIO By Frédéric Billet - Kartcom / © Photo KSP - Philippe Kalmès
The history of Parolin Racing Kart is a mix of passion, expertise and innovation.
LOGY MANUFACTURER, WITH ON ON THE PROGRAMME
PAROLINRACING.COM
Unlike other kart manufacturers, discretion has always surrounded the success of the Bassano chassis factory, Albino Parolin preferring prestigious clients to use his skills to put themselves in the spotlight. Parolin
Racing Kart came to prominence in winning the tender for the CIK-FIA Academy Trophy equipment and U18 World Championship, a challenge that fits in perfectly with their vision of the current situation in karting. It is
no coincidence that today Parolin’s priority is single-brand competition, through the organization of the ChampionKart series, as well as in leisure karting, with several innovative projects to their credit.
REPORT
THE GENESIS OF PAROLIN RACING KART A driver himself in the 80s, a good driver as he fought against Michael Schumacher, Mika Hakkinen and Yvan Muller, Albino Parolin quickly combined his passion for competition with his attraction for engineering, after a lack of adequate financial support to continue his career in the driving seat. He was only 18 when he made his first single chassis. Success was not long in coming, and Parolin did not take long to build a reputation among the competition. His first mass-produced chassis, using machinery from a well known brand, was highlighted by winning the World Cup at Suzuka in 1990. Collaborating with drivers of the caliber of Giancarlo Fisichella enabled the team to reach the top in terms of quality. After creating Parolin Racing Kart in 1994, Albino Parolin realized that producing handmade karts would not allow him to achieve the objectives he had set. At the end of this decade, he wisely used his success, the popularity of the kart and the good economic situation to move into top gear.
QUALITY ORIENTED PRODUCTION
The new Parolin factory was opened in 2000, equipped with several automated CNC machines, which was not as common then. Parolin decided at that time to produce complete chassis themselves from A to Z by combining the expertise of experienced technicians and the latest high-tech machines. Through these choices the company is managing a major turning point in its history. This orientation is also still on the agenda in 2014. Repetitive tasks that require the utmost precision are assigned to controllers that can produce large quantities 24 hours out of 24 with the highest quality for all the necessary components. Parolin Racing Kart produces it all up to the plastic bodywork. Cut and bent to perfection, the tubes are assembled by welding robots for the leisure range, while a highly qualified staff work on the competition chassis. Aside from the painting, done by a specialized workshop outside, all of the chassis are fully manufactured in the factory.
REPORT
THE HAPPY CUSTOMERS Parolin Racing Kart produces complete chassis for twenty brands worldwide and victories at all levels of competition are innumerable. Parolin is deliberately very discreet on behalf of its clients. After all, it is only a part, albeit an important one, but still a link in the chain of success on the track. However,
it is worth remembering that the whole DC One venture, in close collaboration with Dino Chiesa, which allowed Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg to be noticed in the early 2000s, took place with chassis manufactured by Parolin. The information collected in competition is still an essential part of
improving current production at Parolin. To the know-how of its employees, the brand has added the accuracy of the advanced machinery and a flexibility that allows it to meet all the demands of its customers, or almost all!
REPORT
PAROLIN WINS THE CIK-FIA TENDER IN 2010
When the CIK-FIA decided to create a world-class onemake series in 2009, Albino Parolin did not hesitate long before taking the plunge: besides producing the chassis which had already been mastered, he had yet to start engine manufacturing, which was new to the company. This new challenge was successful as Parolin won the tender to supply engines for the U18 World Championship with the brand FIM and complete karts for the Academy Trophy. The U18 class was abandoned by the CIK-FIA in 2012, but the contract was extended for Parolin at the same time for a further period of three years for the Academy Trophy. Already in favour of one-make formulae, Parolin found a great opportunity for exposure on the international scene. The quality of their performance over the past four seasons is another success to their credit.
CHAMPIONKART: A ONE-MAKE SERIES TAILORED TO KARTING TODAY Parolin did not wait for the CIK to be interested in one-make championships in 2010. Albino Parolin is convinced that this is where the future of karting is in view of the disaffection with advanced categories and the high budgets they require. Since 2004, Parolin has created its own brand, ChampionKart,
a competition open to all over several meetings, which also takes place in other countries than Italy. This offers a very competitive challenge at very reasonable cost for all ages from Delfini to Six Speed up through the Rocky Mini Academy, Academy, Academy Over, Senior and U18 FIM Open. The FIM, IAME or TM engines are checked and sealed with the chassis and of course assembly by Parolin. An international final takes place at the end of the season with the best drivers from the foreign Championkart series. The Delfini, with the Honda GX35 engine, are available from 5 years, and they equip many kart schools in Italy.
FOUR-STROKE OR ELECTRICAL LEISURE KARTS
Parolin Racing Kart is investing increasingly in leisure karting, producing rental karts that are safe and effective, designed from their competition experience. They offer a wide range of machines to suit all leisure uses. The renowned 40 XT is now available in a bodied version, with 4 stroke or electric propulsion and even a two-seater! It is now supported by the XT 32, lightweight and nearest to a competition machine in agility.
REPORT
THE CULT OF INNOVATION
At all levels of production, constantly improving every detail motivates Albino Parolin wonderfully. On circuits as well at at his factory, he is constantly on the lookout for anything new to improve the quality of Parolin Racing Kart, both in manufacturing processes and the products themselves. Although the quest for top performance in competition always motivates the team, projects for a wider audience also take up a large part of the activity. Helping to broaden the base of the sport is a recurring theme for Parolin. The more precise adjustment of tubes on a new welding frame for an updated pedal fixing, through to a system of multiple position settings for the driver on a leisure kart or and extension of the autonomy of electric engines, everything is a pretext for innovation in the factory at Bassano who are now established for the longterm as a major player in the future of karting.
Committed to family values, Parolin Racing Kart can rely on Marco Parolin in the future, Albino’s son, already heavily involved in running the company.

GLOBAL STRATEGY FOR EQUIPE DE FRANCE FFSA
On the initiative of Jean Alesi, FFSA has progressively set up a complete training and support program for the young hopefuls of French car racing since the early 2000’s.
The Circuit drivers were the first to pave the way, soon followed by Karting and Rally drivers. The impressive presence of France at the top level of car racing - four French drivers currently in F1 and the total domination in WRC with Sébastien Loeb and then with Sébastien Ogier - strengthens the importance of the Equipe de France FFSA teams and is proof of their relevance. The involvement of FFSA provides young drivers with better opportunities to succeed, much to the envy of their counterparts in other countries.
REPORT
KARTING AS TALENT SCOUT
It is no breaking news, since it has been known for long, but Karting is still the best school to start a career as a race car driver. FFSA therefore, has obviously designed its training and scouting policy around the first link in the sport’s chain. Scouting through Programme 10-15, where young drivers are observed right from the Minime and Cadet categories. More advanced training for the members of Equipe de France FFSA Karting who achieve the status of high level sportsmen and race to win the international titles awarded by CIK-FIA. Through the Auto Sport Academy, the Championnat de France F4 offers a logical followup to these apprentice champions. What is remarkable is that at a time when the FIA encourages the development of National F4 championships, France can count on an established experience in the field, which places it several lengths ahead.
POSITIVE OUTCOME FOR THE 2013 TEAM
Valentin Moineault has finally achieved the top of the ĂŠlite category at European level. The Vice-championship title obtained after his victory in Italy finally establishes the talent of a pilot that had remained understated so far. Dorian Boccolacci has completed an outstanding first year in KF, with the victories in the WSK Master and Euro Series as well as the Margutti Trophy, before his sensational
starts in 125 gearbox with his victory in the International Super Cup KZ2 of CIKFIA held in Varennes (Fr). A member of Programme 10-15, Bryan Elpitiya has shown more and more convincing performances in KF-Junior all the year long. These three drivers will now turn to car racing and take part in the French F4 Championship within Auto Sport Academy to try and relieve Anthoine Hubert, the
outgoing champion. He was also coming from Equipe de France FFSA Karting and so was Pierre Gasly now driver of the Red Bull Junior Team in FR 3.5, and more, Norman Nato, Anthony Abbasse, Jean-Eric Vergne, Jules Bianchi, Arnaud Kozlinski, Jean-Karl Vernay, Nelson Panciaticci, or Pierre Ragues, whose achievements this year have been remarkable, after joining the federal team.

FIVE YOUNG DRIVERS FOR 2014

THREE DRIVERS IN KF
TWO DRIVERS IN KF-JUNIOR
Nicolas Gonzales, aged 18, continues in this category after some good performances in 2013. He is serene at the start after all the work made with his team and finally expects international accomplishments. Gabriel Aubry, aged 15, is going to race his first year in KF with a new, renowned team, while he can count on a great racing schedule to get ready. New entry in Equipe de France, Julien Darras, also aged 15, has completed a remarkable 2013 season, going from KFJ to KF at the beginning of the year. In fact he has been crowned Italian Champion before big names of the KF2 category and is now targeting international victories.
By virtue of his 14 years of age, Jules Bollier had the choice between KF and KFJunior, but he has chosen to continue in the latter category which he knows so well as to achieve great results. Finally, Tom Leuillet has stepped into Programme 10-15 of Equipe de France FFSA Karting for a season of KF-Junior centered on international races, along with an intensive training program.

OBJECTIVE
ESSAY The organization of the KF and KF-Junior World Championships in Essay, France, is a strong motivation for French drivers to face a difficult challenge and obtain the supreme reward. Morgan Caron, National Technical Director, does not deny his hope to see a French driver on the top step of a world podium.
ÂŤWe are going to do all the best for our drivers to be in perfect shape in September at the most important event of the season. It is apparent that a French victory on this occasion would arouse a great deal of interest and have a positive impact on French karting overall.Âť
REPORT
A NEW ORGANIZATION For 2014, National Technical Director Morgan Caron has started a process of staff renewal in the Equipes de France FFSA including a sharing of resources among the three groups. The four-time WTCC World Champion holds his role of Captain which he has held since 2009, being at the disposal of young kartmen as much as he can. On the other hand, Alexandre Bernard, athletic trainer of the pro A Mans basketball team, joins Equipe de France. He’ll have the task of drawing up individual fitness training programs for each driver at the end of each stage. Cédric Papin shall work in direct contact with the athletic trainer in his role as physiotherapist. Marc Berteaux - involved in young people’s training for a long time, working in Programme 10-15 so far, and the initiator of many activities on his track in Salbris - is now responsible on-site for Equipe de France FFSA Karting, assisted by Mathieu Zangarelli who is progressively turning to single-seaters.
REPORT
CHAMONIX, KEY PRE-SEASON EVENT Karting drivers met their fellow drivers of the Circuit and Rally teams for the traditional pre-season training stage in Chamonix. Morgan Caron gives his account: « Committed to do their best, the five drivers of Equipe de France FFSA Karting have shown great motivation during a week full of various activities. Specifically, we have had them work on cardio during cross-country skiing, and hiking with snowshoes and sealskin. They have had the opportunity to condition their muscles in the fitness center or by climbing. Their medical assessments at the beginning of the year provide them with a reference point for the work that they shall do from now to the next appointment at the Auto Sport Academy. At this stage, we can be satisfied with the 2014 team. It is now up to them to prove that we were right to trust them to make the colors of France shine at the highest level.»

THE 2014 ROTAX WINTER CUP FINISHES AT CAMPILLOS
After its first three stagings, the Rotax Winter Cup held at Campillos (ESP) organised by RGMMC, has turned a corner, firstly with a substantial increase in the number of drivers: 133 this year against an average of 90 previously. The opening event of the European Rotax season still attracts many Britons with no less than 35 representatives, more than 25% of the field. The French entries have increased to 22 drivers this time, 2nd among the 25 nationalities.
The OTK brands (Tony Kart and co) are a real dominant group in this event with 70% of the chassis running. The results follow for the Prevalle factory, with 18 of its products in the top 20 in Juniors and Seniors, plus victory in DD2. Impressive. The Strawberry Racing team remains true to it’s reputation with the entire podium in Seniors, victory and a 3rd place in Juniors and in DD2.
One more word about the organization from RGMMC, which was impeccable as usual, and the firmness of the stewards who warned and punished many drivers who went too far, and, from the qualifying heats onwards exclusion if necessary, relying on many items of video evidence. Finally, although it is still being perfected, live TV online of the event has significantly increased in popularity, with a special mention for the two excellent British commentators.

VIPS PREVAILS IN THE END IN JUNIORS
Already fast in 2013, the Estonian Juri Vips (Tony Kart - Strawberry Racing) won the Junior final on the last lap of the race against the Austrian polesitter Thomas Preining (FA Kart - Team TKP), with the fastest lap, and his Dutch teammate Richard Verschoor, who finished second, and the American Darren Keane (Tony Kart - Strawberry Racing) completed the podium. We noted the strong gains of 18 places each from the young Spaniard up from 60 Mini, Eliseo Martinez (CRG - CRG) in 11th, and the British driver Hugo Bentley Ellis (Tony Kart - RL Racing Dept UK) in 13th. The best performer under the tricolor was none other than French Cadet Champion from 2013, Jean-Baptiste Simmenauer (Tony Kart - Jana Racing) who was able to read the race to finish in an interesting 17th position, just ahead of Hugo Chevalier ( Tony Kart - RK Competition), faster and faster, but excluded from the final race for overly aggressive driving. Louis-Ferdinand Simmenauer (Tony Kart - Jana Racing) was always in the game, even though he had a retirement in a heat and a tough final. Good things also came from Enzo Coursimault (Kosmic - PKS), 14th in the prefinal and the victim of a collision at the start of the final.
REILLY WINS
SENIORS AFTER A LONG BATTLE WITH ZHOU A victory of experience over youth, Joseph Reilly (Tony Kart - Strawberry Racing) - age 21 - finally took the lead over the youngest driver and winner of the 2013 Rotax Euro Challenge in Juniors, his British teammate Guan Yu Zhou. Reilly began with pole position in qualifying and consistent performance in heats before bowing to Zhou in the prefinal. He dominated most of the final before Reilly made a decisive attack with two laps to go. There was a magnificent third place on the podium for the Swedish driver Jessica Backman (Tony Kart - Strawberry Racing). Four French drivers qualified, but only Corentin Collignon (Zanardi - MPK Racing) and Kevin Petit (Sodi - Kart Racing Pro) - 5th in the repechage - were able to complete the final, 24th and 26th respectively. Caught in the crash at the start, Nicolas Picot (Sodi - Kart Racing Pro) remained in the gravel and Eva Benes (Kosmic - PKS) retired shortly after.

BABINGTON AHEAD OF EVERYONE IN DD2
The Briton Sean Babington, now under the Tony Kart team colors with Strawberry Racing, was unbeatable this weekend in Spain. He finished his triumphal march with a final victory after winning everything since his pole in qualifying. The Belgian De Ruwe Xen (ART GP - ART GP Team) and the Spaniard Oriol Dalmau Caballero (Tony Kart - Motor Club Deportivo Creixell) were his main rivals before disappearing into the depths of the final ranking. The French driver Anthony Abbasse (Sodi - Sodi), returned to second place after a meeting that started badly with a disqualification in qualifying for being underweight. The Swede Andreas Backman (Tony Kart - Strawberry Racing) seized his chance and moved up to the 3rd step of the podium. The 2nd French driver in the category, Alexis Coursault (Birel - Sologne Sport Tech) retired after two rounds.
INCREDIBLE VICTORY FOR BERTEAUX IN DD2 MASTER The Franco-British driver Florent Lambert (Tony Kart - Tatum Racing) and the Irishman Martin Pierce (Praga - Praga Racing Team) had made their mark at the start of the competition in pure performance, even though they didn’t have success in the heats, but the French driver Guillaume Berteaux (Birel - Kartagene) who rose to first place in the end, an achievement after the disadvantage of exclusion in qualifying when he was underweight. The Belgian with a French license, Christophe Adams (Kosmic - Sonic Racing Kart), took 4th place and Franck Rouxel (Sodi - Sodi Shop) was 6th after he had held 3rd place in the prefinal.

HUGO CHEVALIER ON A HIGH AT CAMPILLOS His first race in Rotax Junior will be one of those moments that count in a driver’s career... Everything was new or nearly new for Hugo Chevalier at Campillos for the Rotax Winter Cup of 2014 - the Junior Rotax, the soft tyres, rain tyres, the chassis and the international field. While the driver from RK Competition had done some preparatory testing in the winter and the weekend before the first meeting of the season, the race was the starting point. Also new was Jean-Philippe Guignet, who joined the team to work with Hugo on data acquisition and video, a definite plus for this spirited driver. Delighted to finally be racing, Hugo was very motivated by the challenge. And the result from the competition was positive to say the least! A bit too far back in qualifying in a second group that was less favourable than the first, Hugo quickly got the power on. After already lapping quickly at the start of heat 1, he took advantage of his usual slick tyres in the rain at the end of race to make a difference and take 3rd position. Despite his relative inexperience on rain tyres, he managed 7th place in heat 2, but his third heat was interrupted by a black flag for «unfair driving». Something to move on from. Starting 21st, Hugo came back well in the prefinal before being pushed and he dropped down the standings. He had a further recovery in the final from 28th to 14th place, thanks to a good start as he well knows how to do. Then a brake problem stopped him from continuing his momentum and he had to settle for an 18th place finish. Now he feels very much in the game after his first international event, Hugo has only one desire: to go faster!

During the winter, the Sodi Racing Team decided to partner with Kart Pro Racing for Rotax engines for the Sodi factory team at international races. Through it’s subsidiary KPR Motors, Dominique Chech got down to the task of providing engines for the Senior and DD2 categories. After Nicolas Picot’s podium in Senior Rotax at the Salbris Euro Challenge event at the end of 2013, Kart Pro Racing had expressed it’s ambition to compete in Rotax in 2014 against the top specialists who are mostly British teams, the acknowledged benchmarks in this discipline. The new collaboration with the Sodi Racing Team has increased these targets. DD2 has been the battleground of the biggest kart manufacturers for some time. The commitment of French driver Anthony Abbasse and the British driver Henry
Easthope to this category in the official Sodi colours makes it a greater and more strategic operation. From the first race of the year, the Rotax Winter Cup at Campillos, Spain, KPR has lived up to the confidence of the Sodikart factory. Abbasse and Easthope were in the game from the outset. After a penalty in qualifying for being a few grams underweight, Anthony worked hard against his opponents to return to the lead group. He did well to take fourth position in the final, while Henry started on the row line after running just outside the top five in the qualifying heats. Unfortunately he lost any chance on the first lap when hard contact damaged the chassis. Meanwhile, Anthony made a great start and quickly went from 3rd to 2nd place. He then tried to catch up within a second of Babington, but in vain.

FIRST INDICATOR OF THE YEAR AT LONATO
The great Italian classic celebrated it’s 19th year on the South Garda Karting track at Lonato. The opening event of the international season, the Winter Cup gives a taste of the prospects before the major events of spring. A sign of the times, the entry was down this year with 207 drivers as opposed to 239 in 2013 and 273 in 2012.
time. Only the KF-Junior (87) and KZ2 (71) categories still have a good level of entries. The evolution of karting in the twentyfirst century and the economic conditions largely explain these figures.
With regards to the equipment, not all the manufacturers were officially represented at Lonato. Chassis from the OTK factory made up an impressive score of 44% of the field, ahead of CRG (22%) and Birel (4%), with Energy (9%) In terms of nationalities, Russia now ranks and ART GP (7%) showing good figures. 2nd with 24 competitors, behind Italy and 56% of the total used TM engines which ahead of the United Kingdom, while France accurately reflects the situation in all and Germany are less well represented categories, with Vortex in second place KF continues to play the poor relation than in the past. Of the countries in terms (26%) and IAME (10%), although very in terms of numbers, a long decline for of population, the Netherlands and Finland well represented in KZ2. the iconic kart category since the early are still in the lead. THE INTERNATIONAL
SEASON STARTS AT THE
WINTER CUP
Technically, 2014 has begun on a familiar basis and also for the chassis and engines. The tyres used at Lonato differ from the tyres that will be used during the international season, except for KZ2. As a sporting event, the Winter Cup remains a race apart with a link to the past - which is not a criticism! - as well as being simpler than the current standard
organisation. To write his name in the history of this prestigious event, following those of many champions, always motivates the competitors at the Winter Cup. This year, the weather was rather mild with reasonable temperatures and sun, apart from a few showers.
AHMED WINS KF-JUNIOR The British driver Enaam Ahmed (FA Kart / Vortex) undoubtedly dominated the finals of the category KFJunior, winning three heats after his 7th in Qualifying. Fast whatever brand he races on, the Italian Lorenzo Travisanutto took his PCR / Parilla to second in the prefinal before settling for 3rd place. A team-mate of the winner at RFM Motorsport, the Briton Max Fewtrell (FA Kart / Vortex) moved up to second place in the final. Daniel Ticktum (Zanardi / Parilla) finished 4th, Tommaso Mosca (Tony Kart / TM) 5th and Giuliano Raucci (Energy / TM), 6th. There was an incredible comeback for Davide Lombardo (Tony Kart / Vortex), 45th in qualifying, winner of the repechage and 7th in the final. The fastest lap went to Georgy Talachanov (Tony Kart / BMB). Qualified narrowly through the Repechage, Polish driver Wiktoria Pankiewicz (Tony Kart / TM) was ranked 22nd. The French drivers, of whom there are few in this category, have not been very successful. Giuliano Alesi (Tony Kart / TM), however, showed much higher potential than last year, while the young Alessandro Brozzoni (Energy / TM) was not unworthy in his first big international race, he comes directly from hobby karting, apart from a round of the German Championship in 2013.
INTERNATIONAL
LORANDI ALREADY AHEAD IN KF
The top speed of Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart / TM) in KF was undeniable in his first race in the category. Team Baby Race seems to have an edge that allowed the World Champion KF-Junior of 2013 to dominate throughout the event. Apart from a retirement in a hear and a little impatience in the prefinal, Lorandi totally defeated the competition. Felice Tiene (CRG / TM) was his most serious opponent, while Pedro Hiltbrand (CRG / TM) put in a very convincing performance (gaining 22 places) to reach the third step of the podium. Driving an ART GP / TM, Nikita Sitnikov seized his chance to finish fourth from Martijn Van Leeuwen
(Zanardi / Parilla) and Kevin Rossel (Tony Kart / TM), who was 6th after starting from the 30th position. Then the rookie Jehan Daruvala (FA Kart / Vortex) was the fastest in the race. An official driver of the Tony Kart Racing Team, the French driver Gabriel Aubry (Tony Kart / Vortex) didn’t waste his debut in KF, also revealing speed in his recoveries. Also very fast, Julien Darras (Kosmic / Vortex) unfortunately lost his chance to shine after clashes in the finals. Paolo Besancenez (Tony Kart / TM) was faced with a decline in performance of his machine from qualifying onwards - due to the tyres? - and earned qualification through the repechage. He came back very strongly in the prefinal before being pushed around in the final. Alexander Gadois (FA Kart / Parilla) failed to get through the repechage.
KZ2: DALE OPENS AND DE CONTO CONCLUDES Andrea Dale’ (CRG / Maxter) has long been a favourite at Lonato: qualifying, three heats out of four, prefinal were his with relative ease. But the professionals did not fail to challenge him. Flavio Camponeschi and Marco Ardigo (Tony Kart / Vortex) were included, but Marco Zanchetta (Maranello / TM) and Bas Lammers (Formula K / Parilla) always stayed close. The final changed the situation as the duel for the lead was between from the start Paolo De Conto (Birel / TM) and Lammers. The Italian and Dutch drivers raced brilliantly until the
end where there was a nice win for Birel. Several drivers battled for 3rd place, but Dale finally managed to get on the podium with the fastest lap ahead of Ben Hanley (ART GP / TM) and Camponeschi. Douglas Lundberg (Alpha / TM) was within the top 10 in his first race in the French team CPB Sport.
in the top five, but understeer for his chassis with the new tyres didn’t allow him to aim for victory. Thomas Laurent (Tony Kart / Vortex) of the Cédric Sport team, once again put his bumper among the very fast drivers, but the finals were not favourable for him. Enzo Marchetti’s (Energy / TM) the recovery was complicated by large animated packs and he The French driver Arnaud Kozlinski couldn’t get within the top six of the (Intrepid / TM) was behind the repechage. Thomas Maingre (Alpha wheel of a KZ in a race after months / TM) was not disappointed to have of interruption due to his serious learnt about international KZ2 at accident at Sarno. Having lost none Lonato at the start of a season that of his sense of attack, he long figured looks busy.

LAMMERS AND FORMULA K, A PROMISING COLLABORATION Happy to race for Andrea Bertolini’s brand as an official driver, the champion from Holland Bas Lammers began the 2014 season with a warning by taking second place at the Winter Cup last weekend. However, the development programme in KZ from Formula K, in association with Parilla engines prepared by Falcon RS Tec-Sav, is just beginning. The Dutch driver began by setting the second fastest time on the clock in his qualifying session at Lonato, but the track conditions for his group was not the most favourable and he found himself 14th overall. He then secured two second places and a win in the heats and moved back up to 5th in the intermediate classification. The talent of the Dutch driver was marvelous in the finals and he finished third in the prefinal and second in the final. The performance recorded during the Winter Cup is a good omen for the rest of the season with Formula K for Bas Lammers, whose ambitions are nothing less than to target the peak of the top category of international karting.

2013 KF Asia Pacific Champion Julien Fong Wei Jie started his international season with the Kartronix Int’l team. The driver from Singapore started with the Winter Cup, a classic event included in the CIK-FIA calendar. Although he started in during free practice with the best performance of his team, Julien’s Tony Kart / TM then experienced a decline in performance in qualifying where he was only 33rd. Adapting to the Bridgestone tyres used at Lonato could have been the cause, but the team was surprised and disappointed by the problem without all the parameters in hand to fix it. Julien then had to fight in the middle of the pack, which is still a difficult exercise at the South Garda Karting circuit. Despite his efforts, he didn’t qualify for the finals of the 2014 Winter Cup. The situation is not dramatic, as other tyres, Dunlop, are to be used in races and championships during the season. Julien therefore hopes he will quickly find a machine that allows him to realize his ambitions. He has to work hard before resuming his studies in Singapore at the end of the season.

THE RISING GERMAN IN INTERNATIONAL KF Just 17 years old, the German Moritz Horn is starting his second year in KF. Trained in the ADAC Youngster Cup in 2010, he then raced in KF3 for two seasons in Germany before joining the Energy Corse team and started international racing in 2013, in addition to the DKM where he finished 23rd, he finished 15th in the WSK Final Cup in November at Castelletto. He will compete in a full programme in 2014 to support his growth at the top level.
Moritz started his season this weekend in the Winter Cup at the Lonato circuit. The improvement compared to 2013 was notable from qualifying, and he was around the top 15 in the heats. He then qualified for the final with a 3rd place after a battle in the Repechage and continued his momentum up to 22nd position in the final, despite problems in the prefinal. Moritz will race in all of the major international races in 2014, the WSK
Champions Cup, the Super Master Series, Final Cup, CIK-FIA European and World Championships and the Margutti and Industrial Trophies, in addition to the DKM German Championship. This will be enough to give him the opportunity to hone his experience and perform well on the biggest European kart circuits before finishing his season in Las Vegas at the Supernationals. VERY POSITIVE WINTER CUP FOR FORZA RACING
The new structure of Jamie Croxford’s Forza Racing team has already demonstrated strong potential at the first major international race of the 2014 season, the famous Winter Cup. Five Forza Racing drivers showcased their abilities due to the effective team and equipment from Tony Kart / TM. The Dane Kevin Rossel scored the best result by finishing 6th in the KF final, an achievement after starting 30th on the grid. In KF-Junior, the Polish driver Wiktoria Pankiewicz beat her sister Julia who had to fight bravely at the back of the pack after a modest qualifying. Wiktoria, who twice took top 10s in the heats, fought to the end to qualify through the repechage and ended on a positive note with 22nd in the final.
After qualifying 9th in KF, the Venezuelan Sidney Gomez had flattering results in the qualifying heats, but an exclusion in his first heat cost him dear in the intermediate classification. 26th in the prefinal, he climbed to 15th in the final. Russian driver Yan Shlom experienced too many problems to qualify despite quite convincing speed. It was also the first lap that heavily penalized Kevin Rossel in the prefinal, forcing him to retire after a collision after he started on the third row after three good races. But the Dane did not admit defeat and launched into a fantastic comeback in the final. He gained no less than 24 positions, set the 3rd fastest lap and was in 6th place at the finish line. He clearly had the chance to aim for victory without its retirement in the prefinal. Forza Racing can be very satisfied with the performance of it’s drivers at the Winter Cup and look forward to great results for the remainder of the 2014 season. FORZA-RACING.CO

WSK CHAMPIONS CUP
TWO-IN-ONE WINTER COMPETITION WSK Promotion has always wanted to offer an opportunity to race as early as possible in the season. After collective tests or an opening race in early February before the Winter Cup in the recent past, two events in a row were held this year at La Conca. A mini-championship in two rounds, the WSK Champions Cup is the start of the international season in terms of organization, grip and similar tyres to the major events to come. In this sense, the bet is successful. WSKARTING.IT
INTERNATIONAL We must remember that the WSK Super Master Series will finish by the end of April at Muro Leccese and the KF & KFJ European Championship will begin there in mid-May, two more reasons to come out to southern Italy. However, teams being away from their base for nearly two weeks has not always been appreciated in the paddock, even if the intention was a laudable limit on travel. Would one race weekend have been enough?
HANLEY, WINNER AT THE FINISH IN KZ2 The Briton Ben Hanley (Art GP / TM) won the Champions Cup with the large points haul he scored at the first weekend. Jorrit Pex (CRG / TM) won at the second meeting while two successive accidents disrupted the last hear and the prefinal. The radiator on Mirko Torsellini’s TM
exploded twice, flooding the track and causing accidents that were spectacular but not as severe as might have been feared. The Tony Kart / Vortex pair of Marco Ardigo and Flavio Camponeschi, in 2nd place, proved formidable, and Rick Dreezen was already very competitive on his new Zanardi / Parilla. Jonathan Thonon (Praga / Parilla) was fast and there was a good performance from JĂŠrĂŠmy Iglesias (Lenzo / LKE). Riccardo Negro, now on a Top Kart / TM, finished 3rd in the first final.
KF: DUEL FOR LORANDI AND BASZ;
ADVANTAGE TONY KART Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart / TM), the World Champion in KFJ, had been extremely rapid during the first event, but Karol Basz (Tony Kart / Vortex) was able to reverse the trend during the second weekend while Callum Ilott
(Zanardi / Parilla) was between them on the second step of the podium in the final. The French driver Julien Darras (Kosmic / Vortex) took 4th in the standings after an eventful second round, while his teammate, the fast Nicklas Nielsen had hardly any luck. Egor Stupenkov (Energy / TM) was remarkably consistent at the front in both meetings. The only other French driver in the race, Paolo Besancenez (Tony Kart / TM) made a comeback to sixth position in the last final.
INTERNATIONAL
AHMED CONTINUES HIS MOMENTUM IN KF-JUNIOR Already victorious in the Winter Cup, Enaam Ahmed (FA Kart / Vortex) is the strongest in KFJ in early 2014. The winner of the first final, he was strong in the final in the second after an incident won overall in front of his RFM teammate Max Fewtrell. Daniel Ticktum (Zanardi / Parilla) and Mick Junior (Tony Kart / Vortex) are among the drivers to watch in this category, while Lorenzo Travisanutto performs feats in his PCR, now powered by TM. Performance and consistency put Benjamin Lessennes (Kosmic / Parilla) in sixth position ahead of Anton Haaga (Lenzo / LKE), an incisive Swedish driver.
GAFAR WINS IN 60 MINI Always spectacular, 60 Mini resulted in tight battles up to the finish line. Finally Muizzuddin Abdul Gafar (Hero / LKE) won the series, after emerging during the second round after Giuseppe Fusco (Lenzo / LKE) dominated the first round. Bogdan Fetisov finished third ahead of David Vidales (FA Kart / LKE) and the Canadian driver Antonio Serravalle (Tony Kart / LKE).

TURNING POINT IN 2014 FOR JAMES PULL WITH TONY KART AND MCLAREN
s e m a J
At 14, the British kart driver James Pull’s career is going in a new direction with two major innovations. He has started the 2014 season as an official driver of one of the best factory teams in the discipline, Tony Kart Racing Team, as well as being noticed and selected by McLaren’s Performance Academy as a motorsport hopeful.
KARTING FROM AGE 8 Born in Singapore, James Pull debuted in Malaysia in karting at the age of 8. He didn’t take long to gain more success in Asia in various categories (Rotax MiniMax, Mini Rok, Yamaha Cadet...) before coming to hone his skills in Europe in 2010. In Italy in the 60 Mini category, he achieved his best performances during the 2011 and 2012 seasons within an already very tough international field. First running in the colours of Zanardi and Dino Chiesa - the discoverer of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg - then with Tony Kart, with the support of the former World Champion Oliver Oakes, James Pull started full international competition from the summer of 2012 in the middle of turbulent fields in the CIK-FIA category KF-Junior (formerly KF3). 8th in the International Super Cup in England, he was then 14th in the final of the World Championship in Bahrain.
JAMESPULLRACING.COM
INTERNATIONAL AMBITIONS IN 2014 WITH TONY KART Determined to push forward his career in karting, James has integrated in early 2014 with the Tony Kart Racing Team for a busy schedule of high level karting competitions. In addition to high performance equipment and a particularly thorough knowledge of racing, the Tony Kart Racing Team is renowned for it’s organization, which is no less thorough than the great car teams. Rigorous testing and ongoing use of collected data characterizes Roberto Robazzi’s team, provides excellent training for the young driver. Even though he hasn’t driven much this Spring for health reasons, James Pull performed very interestingly in his first race in early March in Italy, close to the top 10 in the final round of the WSK Champions Cup.
UNDER THE WING OF MCLAREN Serious and motivated, James Pull was quickly noticed in the karting paddocks, including by McLaren’s Performance Academy which he has joined the ranks as one of the most promising young motorsport talents of tomorrow. McLaren’s Performance Academy uses it’s expertise to give
the young talents selected a complete physical and mental training program and a sports coaching throughout the season. This long term project should give James extra potential for the rest of his career in single-seaters. Kevin Magnussen, the McLaren Mercedes F1 driver, also originating in karting, attributed part of his success to the excellent work of McLaren specialists in this field. Undoubtedly, James Pull’s future is in good hands.

FIRST PODIUM OF THE SEASON AT LA CONCA PRAGAGLOBAL.COM
The performance of Praga Kart Racing Team in KZ2 was confirmed at the second meeting of the WSK Champions Cup. Patrik Hajek held his rank in the top five in the heats, while Jonathan Thonon was back in the pre-final, where he set the fastest lap, before reaching the third step of the podium in the final and finished 5th overall. In the space of a week, the work done by the team on the Dragon chassis and the Parilla Screamer engines obviously paid off. In KF, the performance gain is also acute as demonstrated by Karol Dabski finishing 4th in the prefinal although Joel Johansson was still unlucky. Rasmus Lindh made a good comeback in the KF-Junior Prefinal B, 30th in the intermediate classification, and clinched 8th on the line with very convincing lap times. The Praga Kart official team is now preparing for the important WSK Super Master series event at the Sarno circuit, which will host the KZ World Championship in October. Testing will also be stepped up for the occasion.

Ricky Flynn Motorsport demonstrated excellent competitiveness last weekend in both categories that the seven drivers were entered in. The team has now taken stock of the new tyres in 2014 on the FA Kart chassis, while the Vortex engines prepared by ONE are at full strength. All the ingredients are there for competitors to give their in the best events to come. Timed practice took place in the rain, but the somewhat atypical provisional order was quickly corrected during the heats. Max Fewtrell has been very consistent at the front of the field. An incident in the CD heat and a penalty in the last heat deprived him of the lead, but he caught up by winning the prefinal, with the fastest lap, and then the final. Enaam Ahmed followed a similar path at a distance, catching up in his prefinal while setting the fastest lap. Unfortunately, he was pushed on the start line of the final and had to come back from 17th to 9th position, running three tenths faster than the leaders. This is what retained him his 1st place in the Champions Cup ahead of his teammate Fewtrell. The German driver David Beckmann and Chinese Sun Yue Yang have made progress since the first round, they
were both in the top 10 in the intermediate classification. Although he was a long way back in qualifying Beckmann finished in 3rd place in his prefinal before concluding in 12th position. Yue Yang twice rose to the top three in the heats, but the first round of the prefinal went wrong and he had to start a little too far back. Ollie Norris was on the ball this weekend in KF. 2nd in qualifying in the rain, he has continued to perform well in the dry with third place at the end of the heats. Second in his prefinal, he fought in the top 6 in the final before giving up with a rare clutch fault. Lando Norris meanwhile made a step forward in this new category, as comfortable in the rain - 4th in qualifying - as in the dry in the first heat. Retiring in the last complicated the mission, especially as he was delayed by a driver who spun in front of him in his prefinal and he set off again a long way back. Despite his efforts and the fastest lap of the race, qualifying for the final escaped him. Guan Yu Zhou was a victim of the same incident, but had to retire when he had so far been a regular presence in the top 15. RICKYFLYNNMOTORSPORT.CO.UK

TWO DRIVERS FROM THE FFSA EQUIPE DE FRANCE KARTING IN THE WSK CHAMPIONS CUP FFSAKARTING.ORG
Gabriel Aubry (Tony Kart / Vortex) took part in a very contrasting WSK Champions Cup at La Conca in early March for his second KF race at the Tony Kart Racing Team. Always very fast, the official Tony Kart Racing Team driver met with too many problems during this event to have good memories of it. However, with his level of performance, he should have had much higher place in the ranking of the event. Working with the Kosmic Racing Department, Julien Darras has been highlighted throughout the competition. Second in qualifying, he had excellent heats and kept his Kosmic / Vortex in the top five in the intermediate classification before taking a great victory in prefinal-A after a long battle. Fourth in the final, he took 2nd place overall after the first round. The second round of the WSK Champions Cup unfortunately didn’t go as well for Darras. Slowed by a lack of a suitable set-up in the rain in qualifying, he was then very comfortable in the dry, but many clashes in the pack deprived him of a well-deserved podium. «I can’t say I’m happy with the result!» he explained, «Many drivers did whatever they liked this weekend, as happens early in the season with drivers who aren’t experienced enough. It’s a shame, because my Kosmic / Vortex was very fast and the team did a good job. We have what it takes to win and I hope to see more success at Sarno...»

FRENCH CHAMPIONSHIPs Info FFSA
THE 2014 FFSA KARTING SEASON IS READY TO GO With 20 meetings from March to November at 18 different circuits, 14 French Championship titles and 9 French Cups awarded in 14 competition categories, the 2014 FFSA calendar continues the strategy introduced last year to monitor the needs of competitors closely. The separation of National into two distinct categories and the choice of new tyres for KZ 125 should satisfy many drivers.
This is probably the main innovation of the coming season: with a minimum weight of 150 kg or 160 kg, National now offers a double opportunity to enjoy the attractive qualities of this successful promotional category. Whether National 150 or National 160, each will compete for the French Championship over 3 rounds or the French Cup in September at Pers. This decision will expand the market for karting at a lower cost to more experienced drivers who will have the opportunity to exercise their passion for longer.
Also new in 2014 are the tyres. In National, the Mojo F1 will be sold at a lower price than previous tyres and there will be more pleasure in driving and increased equality. There has been rigorous testing before the season organized by the FFSA, which also benefits KZ 125 and KZ 125 Gentleman who now will run on the widely acclaimed Vega SL4.
To recap, here are the approved tyres in each federal category until 2016:
MINI KART : VEGA CADETTI MINIME & CADET : BRIDGESTONE YDS NATIONALE : MOJO F1 KZ125 : PNEUMATIQUES VEGA SL4 (DRY) ET W5 (RAIN) ENDURANCE : LECONT LH03 (DRY) ET LH06 (RAIN)

014 SEASON NG ACADEMY
It was more than a driver’s presentation in early March at Le Mans under the auspices of the FFSA. Karting Racing Academy was officially launched with a full programme of activities for the members of the first session of the
new access to competition karting scheme set up by the FFSA in collaboration with 3MK Events and Sodikart. Very well organized while still very friendly, the event set the tone for the coming season for the aspiring drivers and their families.
NATIONAL
PRESENTATION AT THE AUTO SPORT ACADEMY The choice by the FFSA of it’s base at Le Mans dedicated to training perfectly symbolized the objectives of the Federation, and Morgan Caron, the National Technical Director across all formulae later stated «Being a driver is not only being able to turn a wheel». After the presentation of the staff of the Kart Racing Academy and the programme of the season and the different regulations by manager Anthony Prat, the graduates and instructors Marc Berteaux and Guy Pansart introduced the rules of good conduct, the attitude of parents and the need for sport outside of karting. The FFSA was represented by Jacques Goisque, the manager of Pole Karting as well as several presidents of the CRK, while Pierre Gasly and Charles Leclerc made the link with motorsport. It was then time for each driver to receive their equipment (custom race suit, custom rain gear, gloves, boots, neck brace and rib protection, as well as jackets and T-shirts in the colors of Kart Racing Academy) before the seat fitting. Along with an assessment of their physical condition with Frédéric Champagnac of the Auto Sport Academy, the future kart academicians experienced the flashbulbs of their first photo shoot. The tension rose a notch when they drew lots for their chassis and engine from Sodikart, the technical partner of the Kart Racing Academy. Each driver selected a ball bearing at random with a number corresponding to the complete kart that will be assigned to them for the entire season, and the opportunity to respond at their first interview.
NATIONAL
FIRST LAPS AND TRAINING AT SAUTRON

After fine tuning the seats and controls provided by the Sodikart it was time to try the equipment on the track and implement their basic The young recruits returned to the heart of knowledge. the matter the next day at the Sautron track near Nantes, for their first training course In theoretical terms, the basic concepts which lasted two days. There was satisfaction at the end of the first day, both for drivers, their families, the FFSA and the organizers. The first contact between all those involved in the Kart Racing Academy has been very positive and everyone is now looking forward to the first race on 16th-18th May at Varennes-sur-Allier.

809 HP 2014 OIL - THE REVOLUT A French lubricant manufacturer at the forefront of research, the HP2 laboratory presents its new karting competition oil Phenix Triboxy-Line 809 HP, the culmination of several years of research. Approved by the CIK-FIA in 2014, 809 HP pushes the mechanical limits while being manufactured on a limited scale.
A FEW TECHNICAL DETAILS HP2 Phenix oils differ from conventional lubricants by using an exclusive pioneering production method, synthesizing Triboxylisation ® plasma, which can significantly improve
the performance and reliability of the engine. Without additives, the lubrication and combustion properties of the HP2 Phenix oils go beyond anything currently available on the market. With a complete overhaul of its formula, 809 HP 2014 goes even further in lubrication efficiency and the low mixture ratio that has made the reputation of HP2 products.
the potential of the mixture in the engine: more fuel, so more power is available at all speeds. The mixtures used in Mini or Rotax vary between 1 and 1.5%, and between 2 and 2.5% in X30 or KZ. Performance is increased, so the extreme efficiency of 809 HP is good for drivers and also tuners who can give free rein to their experimentation safely.
Concentrated efficiency, minimum usage With its unusual qualities, the 809 HP 2014 oil requires a reduction in the percentage of lubricant that increases
Powered by long hours of research, the Tryboxilisation ® process improves the exceptional anti-friction properties and load capacity of the oil which coats the engine with a film throughout. Testing

PARILLA SCREAMER KZ: THE NEW TERROR ON THE CIRCUITS Against competition that has been established for many years, the Parilla Screamer engine has quickly become a great benchmark in the KZ category (125cc gearbox). Victories and podiums have been achieved in 2013, both nationally and internationally. The technical choices made by the IAME factory have certainly paid off. Proud to import into France the IAME Parilla engines and the Screamer, Action Karting has also recently released the big news of the year: the 175cc Parilla Avenger, with breathtaking performance. After launch and CIK homologation on 1 January 2013, the Parilla Screamer has forged a special path in the international results. The worthy successor to the original IAME Shifter model, winner of the KZ1 World Cup in 2013, and cemented their position in KZ2 with second position in the International Super Cup as well as a podium at the KZ1 World Championship. And in France they were not to be outdone with wins at both the Trophy Kart Mag and the French KZ125 Championship. Everyone who examined the Screamer were impressed by the potential of the engine from IAME. This is particularly the case for Luc Portaries, who actively participated in the development of Parilla engine and will do so again in 2014, following the partnership between Portaries Karting Competition and Action Karting. Last year, this merger already resulted in second place for Stephen Nuvolini in X30 Shifter at the very tough IAME International Final. No doubt the Parilla Screamer has good days ahead. Titles, victories and podiums are waiting in 2014 ...
THE 175CC PARILLA AVENGER ARRIVES The importer of IAME engines in France, Action Karting, has started to offer a brand new product in recent months, which immediately caused a sensation in it’s first outings on track. Called the Avenger, this Parilla is full of the legendary expertise of the Italian factory, including CNC machines that offer perfect machining, high reliability and an optimum level of performance. With a 175cc displacement, a carburetor of ø36 mm and an electric starter it has more power, phenomenal torque and greater ease of use. «I was amazed by its level of competitiveness. In straight lines, it’s
mind-blowing, while its flexibility allows it to exit corners perfectly, even if the engine is allowed to rev too low in the corner. You feel at ease quickly running this machine. The Avenger 175cc deserves to be used in competition,» said Stephen Nuvolini, who recently had the opportunity to test the Avenger. In addition, many professionals have been taking a close look at this engine. It has actually made its debut in the X30 Challenge Super Shifter class in France, but also in Ufolep events in group 1 Speed category. This is another IAME engine with a big future ahead of it and we may see it frequently on the circuits in 2014 ...
