T
hanks to the usual date of the CIK-FIA World Championship at the end of September, the 2017 calendar has continued and the grand finals of the brand trophies have followed one another from mid-October to mid-November in Europe. The 6th IAME International Final reached new heights with its 454 drivers present at Le Mans (FRA), while the 15th edition of the Rok Cup International Final gathered 415 participants at Lonato (ITA), simultaneously with the 360 qua lifiers for the 18th Rotax Max Grand Finals Challenge at Portimao (PRT). Success continues for these large-scale events attracting drivers from around the world to a unique event. Kartcom has again closely followed the Rotax Grand Final for eight days in southern Portugal, enjoying exceptional weather. It was an opportunity to appreciate the universal use of the new cylin-
der from the Austrian brand in all categories. Rotax plays an important role in a market where competition is growing in some areas. The result is very positive with tighter races than ever and a minimum of technical problems to solve on a large fleet of 360 engines, straight out of the box. The new engine package proposed by Rotax undeniably has the strong attributes needed to start the conquest of the market. The Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals also remains an extraordinary event whose organisation is becoming more and more convincing. Admittedly, it is a different competition in which the margin of manoeuvre for the teams is very small. This does not prevent some professionals from bringing their very useful skills to give an advantage to their drivers. The atmosphere at Portimao, half-sporting, half-festive, was excellent, especially between the participants in each national team. On the
EDITORIAL
KARTCOM NEWS #37 track, the battle was tough, to take advantage of the essential slipstreaming and not to take a spoiler penalty. On that point, there is unfortunately a change in behaviour that is detrimental to the value of racing of any type. It is now very effective to prevent an opponent overtaking by staying on the inside track. We have also seen that a brief well placed braking could surprise and thwart any attempt to overtake. Unfavourable practices that are practically impossible to sanction for the moment, on which a general reflection is needed. The 2017 racing season is now over. The balance sheets, the various awards ceremonies and the preparations for the coming year will all be highlights of the news in Kartcom News No. 38, released in mid-December.

SAMI TAOUFIK CIK-FIA ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
To accompany the one-year lowering of the age of the OK category introduced in 2017, the CIK-FIA has decided to set up a specific classification for Drivers who have not yet reached the age of 16, participating in the CIK-FIA World Championship and the CIK-FIA European Championship. 51 Drivers met this criteria this season and it was the Moroccan Sami Taoufik who won the title of Rookie of the Year for 2017.

Champions or European Champions, compete throughout the season against young talents straight from the OK-Junior category. The CIKFIA created the title of Rookie of the Year to highlight these Drivers who are discovering the OK category. The results of 2017 showed that the young people were often able to shine at the front of the biggest Competitions against their elders. Sami Taoufik (FA Kart / Vortex / LeCont) scored the highest number of points (120) to become the 2017 Rookie of the Year ahead of the Spaniard David Vidales Ajenjo (Tony Kart / Vortex / LeCont) with 118 points and the Russian Pavel Bulantsev (Tony Kart / Vortex / LeCont) with 112 points. Sami Taoufik will receive the 2017 Rookie of the Year awoard at the CIK-FIA Prize Giving ceremony on 2nd December in Milan.

RG Briggs Kart CHAMPIONSHIP DEBUT The official debut of the CRG FS4 Karts karts powered by the Briggs & Stratton 4-stroke engine took place on 30th September at Pomposa. 70 enthusiasts had the chance to test it on the track. The FS4 karts from CRG were also present on 7th and 8th October for a race organised by Endas at the National Finals at Corridonia.
F
ollowing these two events, 15 drivers and a few journalists competed at Ligano as part of the Rental Kart Contest by CRG. These first experiences confirmed the relevance of the project. The feedback from the drivers shows in particular the pleasure of driving a very light kart (only 70 kg empty) thanks to its typical racing chassis.

The engine can run for many hours with no maintenance and chassis preparation is limited to a few basic adjustments, as changes in axles, hubs, plugs, etc. are prohibited. The goal is to allow the use of this kart without the help of a mechanic or a professional to reduce the cost. CRG wanted its championship to be held on small or medium-sized tracks, where there are the maximum number of enthusiasts. Each race will award points as part of a national ranking. The best will be able to compete in the national Final and the International Open with all the qualified drivers in the world using these Briggs & Stratton engines.

David Detmers (Parolin-TM-Vega) managed to overtake the two Mach1-TM-Vega drivers who preceded him in the standings, Julian Muller and Lukas Speck. HUGO ARNAUD
CONFIRMS HIS TALENT In an unbelievably tight competition, Hugo Arnaud managed to return to close to the top 10 to take 13th place in the IAME International Final 2017. This international result was very convincing, to confirm the potential of the young driver who had already finished on the podium of the French Championship in X30 Senior.
I
n the middle of July at Muret, Hugo Arnaud achieved exemplary progress at the forefront of the X30 Senior category by brilliantly driving his Ludo Racing team Sodi. Very strong during the heats, Hugo contested three fine Finals to finish on equal points with the 2nd in the French Championship. On the national level, he also won the X30 Challenge France, decided over three races.
Hugo was 34th overall. Again in the Qualifying Heats he showed a formidable ability to regain ground without making mistakes. It was a high-flying exercise to take back 14 places at the end of his seven races, while incidents and penalties multiplied in the pack. Ranked 16th after the Prefinal, Hugo climbed to 13th position in the Final as attacks intensified on all sides. Here is his analysis of the meeting: "Given the standard of competition and the insane battles that have taken place, I can be satisfied to finish in this position. Never have the gaps been so small between the protagonists and it was very difficult to move forwards. Fortunately, I benefited from the very competitive equipment prepared by Ludo Racing to meet the challenge. I had to stay very focused during the heats to regain places and avoid any mistakes. It was really difficult, but that's also why I'm not unhappy with my performance."
In mid-October at Le Mans, the battle was particularly difficult between the 144 entries in the category, selected from more than 30 countries around the world. With a Qualifying time less than 2.5 tenths from pole position,

ENERGY CORSE
WIN THE IAME AND ROK CUP FINALS! A long standing developer of talent, the Energy Corse team has helped launch the career of many drivers. Some of them are now on the verge of entering Formula 1. Although the search for the best performance and the development of the equipment is incessant, the training of young people is not forgotten within the Italian team. After the competitiveness displayed in the CIK-FIA races, the Energy chassis achieved more top performances, this time in the International Finals of the IAME X30 and Rok Cup Challenges. While Brent Crews won the X30 Mini Final at the Le Mans circuit, Connor Zilisch celebrated his success at Lonato in Mini Rok, in a category of 162 drivers!

M
ore than 1000 kilometres separate Le Mans from Lonato, but one point in common was gathering them on the weekend of 14th and 15th October, 2017: it was enough to look at the front of the field to find the Energy Corse chassis in the Mini classes reserved for young drivers: two chassis in the top four in Italy and three in the top six in France. With the victory in both cases! The rigour, professionalism and knowledge of Energy Corse still paid off. "It's all about a lot of little things," commented team manager Mick Panigada. "At Energy, we leave nothing to chance! As for these excellent results at Lonato and Le Mans, they are also the consequence of our strong partnerships with the Energy Corse teams and distributors all over the world, in the United States especially, in view of the successes of Zilisch and Crews in Rok and X30."
Rok Cup: Energy chassis complete the race in the lead
With 166 drivers at the start and identical Vortex Mini Rok engines for all, it was not easy to make the difference, to qualify for the Finals, to reach the podium and if possible the top step. At the end of a superb duel in the leading group the three Energy chassis of the Polish Karol Pasiewicz, Americans Luca Mars and Connor Zilisch, the former crossed the line 1st, before being penalised for a non-compliant spoiler position. Zilisch recovered the victory after a finely-honed Final. Thanks to a magnificent gain of 10 places, Luca Mars finished 4th. Although Karol Pasiewicz (V-Kart Racing Team) was demoted to 8th, the Russian Maksim Soldatov returned to 13th, bringing the number of Energy chassis in the top 15 to four! There was also Matteo De Palo (ASD Giugliano Kart) in the Final and Russia's competitive Andrey Zhivnov, who was unlucky at Lonato.
IAME X30: Americans full of Energy
With Ugo Ugochukwu and Brent Crews, the Energy chassis dominated the IAME International Final at Le Mans in the X30 Mini. The former won two races out of three and started on pole in the Prefinal, then it was Crews who won the Final, starting in pole position. Ugochukwu missed out in the "slow" procedure
that started at the halfway point, which probably left him without a podium. But after his victory at the IAME International Open at Castelletto in April, Ugo Ugochukwu won the 2017 X30 Mini Cup, awarded for the aggregation of both races. At Le Mans, there was a second driver in Energy Corse colours in 3rd position, with Estonian Patrick Hakala (Dan Holland Racing). Despite his young age (nine years), Jimmy Helias has fully exploited the qualities of his equipment to return to 6th. There was less success on the other hand for Estonian Ken Oskar Algre, who was excellent in Qualifying. With 10 chassis entered, the Italian brand was also the best represented, proof of its attractive and efficient attributes, constantly highlighted by several teams and drivers in the X30 Mini category.
Top six for Van Leeuwen in KZ2
After a season in which he was often featured with his Energy-TM package, the Dutchman Martijn Van Leeuwen was one of the most prominent drivers at the 2017 CIK-FIA International Super Cup at Wackersdorf. Constantly in the top five in each of his six qualifying heats, he completed a superb Final to finish 6th. This last part of the season was also marked by the performance of the Energy Corse team at the 24 Hours of Le Mans Karting (CIK-FIA Endurance Championship), contested with Parilla OK engines. For its first official entry, the Italian team was placed 5th with Joel Johansson, Marco Signoretti, Ross Hayes and Tony Lavanant, thanks to a steady and consistent pace.

2017, YEAR OF SUCCESSES
FOR KART IN PRO COMPETITION 27
KARTCOM NEWS #37
Beyond the very convincing performances at all levels achieved by its drivers, Kart in Pro Compétition has made a name for itself this year by successively winning two French Championships and two French Cups. A successful season that reflects the seriousness and skills of Yannick Iglesias' team.
B
ased at the Brignoles circuit, in the Var, Kart in Pro Competition offers full services under its competition structure as well as the rental of top level race engines. Although the KZ operation is oriented towards TM Racing thanks to the knowledge of Jérémy Iglesias, all brands of engines and chassis are welcome at Kart in Pro, the first criteria being the competitiveness of the equipment. The youngster Louis Iglesias made very good progress with no mistakes in Minime as he first won the French Cup at Saint-Amand before winning the title of French Champion at Lohéac. David Leguem had previously brilliantly won at the French Cup in National at Muret. Sami Meguetounif confirmed the value of Kart in Pro in this category by winning the French Championship without opposition at Lohéac. This promising driver also won the X30 Junior Challenge Final at Aunay-les-Bois as well as the 2017 X30 Talent.
A team found regularly in the leading pack in French competitions, Kart in Pro Competition has this year entered new stage in refining its work on engines. Yannick Iglesias explains this development: "We have really progressed thanks to mastering the use of the test bench, in connection with the data acquisition and the track profiles. Our engine tuner Fabrice Pignon, accompanied by my brother Jérémy especially in KZ, did an excellent job in the workshop as well as on the circuits. This gave us a definite advantage in homogenising our fleet of engines, whatever the categories. Our strategy is clear, as whenever we are not sure of being able to produce a top engine, we do not enter. This is true for our drivers as well as for those who simply rent engines, an area that is growing strongly at Kart in Pro." In 2018, it is the new federal Senior X30 category engine which will focus all the attention of the team in addition to competitions in Cadet and National fought with Rotax engines in NSK and FFSA, and of course the KZ2 supervised by Jeremy, a KZ factory driver in international competition.

The Birel ART Group gathered twentyfour of its most important official distributors at its Lissone site (ITA) for two days at the beginning of November. The warm atmosphere, proved conducive to fruitful exchanges between professionals, after the broad overview from the Birel ART management. IN ROTAX,
IT’S YOU THAT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE! The advanced cylinder manufacturing technology for Rotax 125 MAX and Rotax 125 MAX DD2 engines sets new standards for engine parity.
The technical specifications of the cylinders remain unchanged, but the one-piece sand cores cast numerically in combination with computer numerical control (CNC) machining of additional specific areas can significantly increase the equality of the engines.
T
BRP-Rotax is convinced that the introduction of this new manufacturing technology is an important new step towards equality of opportunity and customer satisfaction.
he Rotax 125 Junior MAX engine cylinder technology used during the 2017 season was also used in the Rotax 125 MAX and 125 MAX DD2 categories at the 2017 Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals. Since the introduction of state-of-the-art technology for Rotax Micro MAX, Mini MAX and Junior MAX cylinders, the market has demanded more equality in all Rotax kart engines. To meet customer requirements, this advanced technology is now used for all Rotax MAX engines.
A limited-time introductory offer - 50% off the 2018 regular retail price - accompanies the introduction of the new cylinders. Please contact your Rotax Service Centre / Reseller for details and availability.

world’s most popular, and the competitions in which it is widely used around the world. During a long interview with Helmut Voglsam, Head of Sales for the Rotax Kart Division, at the 2017 Rotax MAX Challenge Grand Finals in Portimao, the message was clear for MAX's next 20 years.
How would you analyse the situation of the Rotax MAX in 2017 ? - Our sales figures are still very good, but we must recognise that our goals are higher. The Rotax MAX celebrated its 20th anniversary this year with the incredible number of 100,000 engines on the market. Nobody else can say that. We have clearly announced that we have great ambitions for the MAX in the next 20 years. We are part of the BRP Group, a leader in the motorised entertainment market with vehicles and engines developed for snow, water, land and air. In this context, karting is the sector that can reach the youngest clientele and retain them in our brand and its philosophy of quality and performance early on. BRP is fully aware of the importance of supporting the long-term karting market with Rotax. We did see a slight drop in Rotax races in some countries, while others were better. This often varies depending on the services and support that our distribution network can provide to our customers. We had some technical problems when implementing the recent changes to the Rotax MAX engine, but the impact was different depending on the responsiveness of our distributors.
For the near future, what are the strengths of the Rotax MAX? - Currently, all these problems are solved. We are constantly looking for improvements in order to offer the most advanced product, corresponding to the highest possible standards. The guarantee of a quality product is the strongest expectation from the markets, as we understand it. This is the challenge common to all high performance engine manufacturers. It is impossible to reach 100% perfect parity in industrial production, but the introduction of new technologies in the manufacture of our engines allows us to guarantee the greatest equity in a very competitive market.
In use, the durability of our engines enhances their homogeneity over time by reducing potential risks during frequent handling, because MAX engines do not require continual and expensive maintenance operations. The maintenance budget of a Rotax is as small as possible, which is also a key feature of our strategy. All this is part of the basic concept of our engines, constantly improved. To answer your question more specifically, we have launched a series of marketing campaigns designed to convince our customers of our desire to stay focused on the future of our categories. At the same time, we are aware that certain excesses have occurred in some markets, such as Europe or North America, concerning the search for very high performances by some professional teams. This does not correspond to our philosophy of karting. We are in the process of setting up new collaborations to return to the promotion of the original aspect of the racing, simpler, less expensive, less time-consuming, in other words more accessible to more drivers and especially to those who are new to karting. Rotax is not necessarily intended to satisfy drivers who want to progress to the highest level. There are excellent categories for this, those from the CIKFIA fulfill this role very well.
How exactly can this evolution be achieved? - This obviously cannot happen without our distributors and our network. We provide them with a selection of tools to help them reach their target audience and then provide the best possible service to meet their expectations. We are aware that we must first and foremost provide the most suitable equipment that will be perceived as a real benchmark in the market. Meeting the needs of our customers is a major priority for us.

Interview with
Bertrand Pignolet 51
KARTCOM NEWS #32
As President of Sodikart, at Portimao Bertrand Pignolet delivered his analysis of Rotax Max now and in the future, with a mixture of realism and optimism. First, what is your view of the Rotax Grand Final? - This global event remains unique. Gathering all the drivers, 360 this year, under the same giant awning enables the development of an incredible atmosphere. The organisation of the event has reached new heights and I am sure that the vast majority of drivers are very happy to participate in this extraordinary event. Through Team France and its exceptional results, the French karting industry has proved its value, especially for young people. I think it is a great satisfaction for the FFSA, which has previously entrusted Rotax engines to promote access to racing.
What developments will Rotax use to address the future? - The advent of the Evo and its new cylinder in all categories is a major advance to limit the arms race. From now on, the standard cylinder benefits from a very great homogeneity of manufacturing whose performances corresponds to the best cylinders currently on the market. The game is completely revised and the competition budget will be reduced by a very large proportion. This evolution also concerns the already existing engines as it only the cylinder will need to be replaced to benefit from it. The new cylinder will also come into force in France in the federal and national Cadet categories from 2018. An exchange program will be set up thanks to the efforts of Rotax and Rotax France to allow to be used by the next generation at lower cost. This change is by no means mandatory, it is only a possibility offered to those who want it, and the old generation parts are still allowed.
What are Max's strong points in 2018? - The Rotax Max is a formidable engine to progress in racing thanks to its exceptional quality / price ratio. When we talk about strengthening the base of the karting pyramid, we think of Rotax. But it is also an engine that allows drivers to compete in races where the standard is very high. It seems that the DD2 is gradually finding its audience. A large proportion of the 72 DD2 at the World Final will be found for example in the French market. The DD2 is also a category that deserves to be appreciated because of its unique concept that provides strong feelings while maintaining the Rotax philosophy. Anyway, the range is very wide with Rotax, both in terms of age and the type of competition.
What arguments explain the world’s attraction to Rotax? - The Rotax Max concept offers several decisive advantages for our customers. First of all I will speak about the pleasure of driving offered by the 2018 package based on the balance between homogeneous engines and the Bridgestone YLM tyre that has been chosen for France. Secondly, the quality of the Rotax competitions that the FFSA or 3MK Events organise has always been appreciated. We will further advance our standards for next season by creating additional attractive events and by improving staffing. We have the opportunity to offer many tickets to the top French drivers for the 2018 Grand Final which should satisfy lovers of travel and exotic destinations. Finally, on the third point, I would like to come back to the quality of the Rotax engine which is unbeatable in terms of reliability and performance, for an extremely low cost of use. The services and guarantees we provide through our network only enhance the appeal of a very successful product.

France. He does not hide his enthusiasm for the new choices that Rotax is now making in the production of the new generation Max.
What do you think of the news for Rotax in France next season? - It must be emphasised that Rotax Max has always been and continues to be a benchmark brand well established in France. This means that there will be a Rotax French Cup in 2018 under the aegis of the FFSA as part of the Rotax France Challenge on 15th and 16th September at Laval. The three events of the NSK offer a particularly attractive setting for Rotax competitors with several important innovations for 2018. At the same time, the Rotax categories still occupy a prominent place in the Regional Championships as well as in the Minarelli Challenge. Let's not forget Endurance in which Rotax powers the vast majority of the GP2 French Cup, including a 100% Rotax podium at the last 24H Karting of Le Mans.
What changes should we expect on a technical level? - The new Evo Cylinder, which proved its worth in Junior this year and even more during the Grand Final at Portimao, will now be available in all Rotax Max categories, including the Federal and Cadet National categories. Technically, the traditional foundry processes used by engine manufacturers involved four cores (a 4-part mould). There could be slight differences in the positioning of these elements before the metal was poured. Rotax has developed a new technique by creating a unique and strictly identical within a series mould using 3D printing. The cylinders produced benefit from a foundry precision never seen before. This process is completed by systematic finishing by machining at the exhaust and transfer of admission. We can now guarantee excellent homogeneity in the production of essential parts for engine performance.
What are the direct consequences for users?
greater number of drivers to compete at the same level by significantly reducing the budget usually devoted to the optimisation of their engines. I was able to verify on the test bench that the 2018 cylinders were all as good as the best cylinders of the previous generation. There is no obligation to change, simply a homogenisation of performance. For those who wish to use the 2018 cylinder, we will offer a launch offer with 50% discount to facilitate this process. In this context the cylinder will cost â‚Ź245 including tax for the J 125 and less than â‚Ź270 including tax for the Max and DD2.
20 years after its launch, what are the advantages for Rotax Max in the future? - The ease of use remains one of Max's strengths with its modern design. Thanks in particular to the variable feed, the barrel carburettor, the nikasil coating of the cylinder reducing piston wear and the very high reliability of the assembly, one obtains an excellent level of performances for an extremely reduced cost of use. Only Rotax can offer such a favourable relationship and this superiority is not about to weaken in the face of competition. On the other hand, the Rotax network is very firmly established with its customers thanks to an unequalled quality of service.
What are Rotax's prospects in competition? - The latest technical advances in Rotax production are also aimed at offering better chances for every driver to aim for victory. The trend that we have witnessed from some big international teams, even factory teams, involving significant financial resources, is no longer necessary. A return to the skill of the driver will occur naturally and the world of Rotax will regain its original spirit: pure racing, highlighting talent and fun for all at an affordable cost. As an organiser, we also work to reduce expenses directly related to racing in events.
- It's simple! The standard engines will be both very efficient and very close to each other. This will allow a

for a long time by the participants in this benchmark event. The performance of the Sodi chassis has steadily increased over the years to reach an exceptional level which attracts more and more contenders for victory from around the world.
T
he 18th edition of the Rotax World Final held in Portugal, at the Kartodromo Portimao, from 4th to 11th November 2017, once again confirmed the perfect mastery of the entire production and service chain by the world's leading kart manufacturer. The French factory's Operations and Production department spent more than 2,000 hours working on the construction and assembly of the Sodi Sigma RS and Sigma DD2 chassis. Three tons of technical steel, 500 m of tube and 250 m of welding seams were used to manufacture 154 complete Sodi karts, designed to accommodate the 144 125 Max and 125 Max DD2 Masters drivers from around 60 countries and five continents to compete in the best conditions in Portugal. On site, the Logistics and Events teams then ensured the success of the organisation in the field with their recognised professionalism.
"Our highly appreciated performance at the Rotax Grand Final is a source of pride for everyone involved, said Bertand Pignolet, the Managing Director of Sodikart. "The Sodi chassis enabled the top drivers from each country to compete in the best conditions and discover the quality and performance produced in France. We warmly thank BRP Rotax for its long-term confidence and we are delighted that many enthusiasts have been able to appreciate the new Austrian production of new-generation cylinders with exceptional manufacturing consistency and sporting fairness in competition. In combination with an exceptionally low cost and ease of operation, we have important strengths to ensure the success of Rotax competitions in France. The strength of the Rotax sector in our
country has proved its worth this year with the exciting results of the Team France drivers worldwide. We are determined to continue in this direction in close collaboration with the French Motor Sport Federation. " Sodikart has always enjoyed an excellent response from drivers, mechanics and teams, thanks to the quality of its products and its staff. This was confirmed at Portimao. The testimonials of satisfaction were multiplied regarding the representatives of the French brand, the competitors being well aware that Sodikart aims for the development of its products and services, and not short term profit. The remarkable performance of the Sodi Racing range has been hailed from all sides and many have discovered the standard of French chassis with great interest. The results of the 2017 Rotax Grand Final have once again been very positive for the French brand, which has won over a wide range of drivers and professionals with the quality and the image of its products and organisation. This year British driver Brett Ward won the 125 Max category after a duel with the young Frenchman Jean Nomblot, who finished 3rd. 2nd place went to Belgian Felix Warge, with Jordan Brown-Nutley of Great Britain and Petr Bezel of the Czech Republic completing the top five. In DD2 Masters, it was once again an Australian, Troy Woolston, who won against Finland's Antti Ollikainen, while Frenchman Charly Hipp climbed on the third step ahead of Germany's Tommy Hilfinger and South Africa's Michael Stephen.

he 18th edition of the Rotax World Finals was a great success from November 4th to 11th at the Kartodromo do Algarve near Portimao (PRT). Under a uniformly blue sky, the races were extremely tight between the top specialists in the discipline, from 59 countries. Rotax's use of a new cylinder made using a state-of-the-art manufacturing process won over competitors by offering a high degree of consistency in the engines. The festive atmosphere of the event has always given it a special place in the international calendar and in the hearts of enthusiasts.
"Rotax's investment in time and resources makes the RMCGF the best-organised global finals, said Birel ART's President Ronni Sala. "I find that the qualification system to select the best drivers in each country is a very good thing which offers true representativeness and stimulates national markets. Only Rotax is able to set up such an organisation covering the whole planet, as the 59 nations represented in Portugal have shown this year. It is always a great opportunity to make good contacts and develop our distribution network.
Today, the most important categories in the world of karting are the one-make formulae. Competition is currently very intense in this market, but Rotax is a big brand that is determined to be at the front of the pack. The 125 Max engine, always very well placed in terms of ease and cost of use, can attract many newcomers to karting. The Birel ART chassis are popular around the world and the feedback from the drivers who used them at Portimao was very positive. Those who were used to driving other brands were very appreciative and gave us some very interesting information to evaluate our products. Birel ART is particularly well placed in the DD2 market where chassis of the S8-B generation have been very well appreciated, suggesting an even stronger penetration for the new S9s whose homologation will be effective in 2018. I want to emphasise that DD2 is a category that deserves greater popularity with the competitors due to its originality and the feeling that it gives to its users. Birel ART also has development goals in other Rotax categories - Micro / Mini, Junior and Senior in all markets."

2017 AN EXCEPTIONAL YEAR FOR TEAM FRANCE
KARTCOM NEWS #37
The 15 drivers qualified for the 2017 Rotax Grand Final formed a very good team at Portimao. The excellent atmosphere within Team France for the week was magnified by remarkable overall performance and an unprecedented success rate. After such success, the places may be even more hard-fought at the French Rotax competitions next year.
T
he exemplary organisation of the 2017 Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals once again convinced the 360 participants, selected following their results in 59 countries around the world. This year, the homogeneity of Rotax Evo engines was particularly appreciated thanks to use of the new cylinder in all categories. Never before have the gaps been reduced so much between all these strictly standard engines, creating incredibly tight and spectacular races. During the whole event, the satisfaction index of the best drivers from each nation confirmed the verdict of the stopwatch. In this extremely competitive environment the French drivers were able to express their talent with brilliantly. With two victories and five podiums, France constantly raced in the leading international pack. We must salute the winners Louis Iglesias (Micro Max) and Marcus Amand (Mini Max), as well as the 2nd place for Sami Meguetounif (Junior Max) and the 3rd place for Jean Nomblot (Senior Max) and Charly Hipp (DD2 Masters). The French Rotax performances proved the value of the French competitions, both the FFSA French Championships and Cups and during the NSK and the Rotax France Challenge organised by 3MK Events. The FFSA representatives who attended the Finals, Michel Guignard and Martine Raynaud, did not hide their satisfaction with the success of the drivers from the federal categories in the Rotax sector, a long-time partner of the Federation.
during the podium ceremony, but we cannot forget the leading performances of Theophile Nael, victim of a problem in the Final and forced to retire after a crash, or those of Craig Tanic, suffering contact and a penalty, both of whom had the potential to finish at the top of the rankings. The drivers from the National category all showed an exceptional level of performance in Junior Max. Sami Meguetounif was the best in the Final with his 2nd place, but Camille Prouteau also impressed by fighting in the top three, Victor Bernier moved back up steadily in all his races and Hugo Vair revealed amazing potential before facing with electrical problems. Jean Nomblot was able to fight for the Senior Max victory, but a particularly tough opponent deprived him of a possible victory while Arnaud Sarrazin conceded a lot of ground because of a Prefinal spoiler penalty. The competition proved more difficult in DD2. A young rookie driver in the category, Andrew Williamson made very good recoveries. Ranked 37th and the first non-qualifier, Andrew did not hide his joy at participating in this great event and his willingness to do everything possible to be present in 2018. Lucas Joly suffered from his distant position in Qualifying. Although very fast in the heats, he missed his place in the Final. Charly Hipp was delighted with his last participation in DD2 Masters which ended on the podium. Michael Dauphin came back to 8th position. The results of the 2017 Grand Final point to very encouraging prospects for future Rotax competitions in France. The introduction of the highly rated new cylinder in 2018 will give a new life to the Rotax categories by ensuring a very great sporting equality at an unbeatable cost of use for all French drivers, in NSK and the Rotax Challenge France as well as in the FFSA events.
