MONDIAL OK: COUP D’ESSAI, COUP DE MAÎTRE POUR KEIRLE
Incroyable ! Danny Keirle participait à sa première course internationale en CIK-FIA et il l’a gagnée. Il est le nouveau Champion du Monde OK. Parti en tête depuis sa pole position, il n’a commis aucune erreur et s’est imposé avec brio. S’il n’était pas connu du paddock OK et n’est plus vraiment un espoir du haut de ses 20 ans, il est une des références en X30 Senior (3 excellentes Finales Internationales IAME à son actif). Techniquement, le team Chiesa Corse et ses Zanardi-Parilla se sont avérés extrêmement performants. Esteban Muth le confirmait en coupant l’arrivée en deuxième position. Hélas pour l’Allemand, il héritait d’une pénalité pour son spoiler et chutait 10e. Déjà 2e en 2016 en Junior à Bahreïn, l’Espagnol David Vidales (Tony Kart-Vortex) termine de nouveau vice Champion du Monde. Auteur d’un bon début de course, Vidales a donné le meilleur toute la course, mais sans pouvoir inverser la tendance. Couvé par l’ancien pilote de Formule Super A Jussi Kohtala, le Finlandais Juho Valtanen (Kosmic-Vortex) était tout heureux de récupérer la 3e place, puisqu’il s’est montré l’égal ou presque des hommes le précédant. Son compatriote Paavo Tonteri (Tony Kart-Vortex) terminait à quelques longueurs devant le Suédois Rasmus Lindh (Exprit-Vortex), qui concrétise enfin.
MONDIAL OK: FIRST ATTEMPT FIRST VICTORY KEIRLE’S MASTER CLASS
Danny Keirle took part in his first international race in CIK-FIA - and sealed an amazing victory making him the new OK world champion! He started from pole, jumped into the lead, made no mistakes and won in style. Although he was a stranger in the OK paddock and at the age of 20 is no longer a real future hope, he’s one of the benchmarks in X30 Senior with three excellent IAME finals to his name. From a technical point of view the Chiesa Corse team and its Zanardi-Parillas were very quick as Esteban Muth confirmed by crossing the finishing line in second place. Unfortunately for the German he was hit with a penalty because of his spoiler, which dropped him back to tenth. Spanish driver David Vidales (Tony Kart-Vortex) second in Junior in Bahrain in 2016, again filled the runner-up spot in the world championship. Vidales made a good start to the race and pushed hard throughout, but was unable to find a way past Keirle. Looked after by former Formula Super A driver, Jussi Kohtala, Juho Valtanen (Kosmic-Vortex) was pretty chuffed at recuperating third place because he showed that he was almost a match for the drivers ahead of him. His fellow-countryman Paavo Tonteri (Tony Kart-Vortex) was next up a few metres ahead of Rasmus Lindh (Exprit-Vortex) from Sweden who finally achieved a good result.

MONDIAL OK-JUNIOR: PATTERSON 1er, DOUBLÉ FORZA
Les hostilités ont été lancé dès les premiers tours de la finale du Championnat du Monde OK-Junior à PFI, entre les pilotes du team RFM (FA Kart) et ceux de chez Forza Racing (Exprit-TM). A force de se chercher dès les premiers tours, le Britannique Harry Thompson et le pilote des Barbades Zane Maloney perdaient du temps. Le duel intense profitait aux deux sujets de sa majesté, Dexter Patterson et Christopher Lulham, qui prenaient le large. Les tours suivant, Lulham allait s’employer pour recoller à son équipier et finissait par le rejoindre à cinq tours de l’arrivée. Etrangement, alors qu’il semblait le plus rapide, Lulham restait sagement dans le sillage de Patterson. Il décidait de passer à l’attaque dans le dernier tour. Mais, trop tard, Patterson (un Ecossais de Glasgow) se protégeait parfaitement et devenait le nouveau Champion du Monde OKJunior, un an après le Français Victor Martins. Lulham nous avouera plus tard qu’il était un peu inquiet à l’idée de détruire un beau résultat pour le team. Thompson avait perdu trop de temps dans la bagarre du début de course et ne pouvait que compléter le podium à quelques longueurs du duo de tête.
MONDIAL OK-JUNIOR: PATTERSON WINS FORZA DOUBLE
The drivers in the RFM (FA Kart) and Forza Racing (ExpritTM) teams went head-to-head in the opening laps of the final of the OK-Junior World Championship at PFI. Briton Harry Thompson and Zane Maloney from Barbados became involved in a ding-dong scrap early on, which ended up delaying them both and enabled Dexter Patterson from Scotland and Englishman Christopher Lulham to pull away. In the following laps Lulham did his best to close the gap to his team-mate and finally caught him five laps from the finish. Strangely enough, although the Briton seemed to be the faster of the two he made no attempt to overtake Patterson. He decided to go for it on the last lap, but he had left it too late. Patterson from Glasgow parried his team-mate’s attacks and became the new OK world champion a year after Frenchman, Victor Martins. Shortly after the finish Lulham told us that he was a bit scared of compromising a good team result! Thompson lost too much time in the battle in the early stages and had to be content with third, a few lengths behind the winning duo.

KZ1: 2e TITRE MONDIAL CONSÉCUTIF POUR DE CONTO, ABBASSE 2e
A Wackersdorf, la France attendait un titre de Champion du Monde KZ1 et nous y avons cru, surtout en voyant Jérémy Iglesias (Formula K-TM) prendre le meilleur départ de la finale, avant de se faire relayer par Anthony Abbasse (Sodi-TM). Hélas, dès le début de course, Patrik Hajek (Kosmic-Vortex) tentait, sans doute trop rapidement, un dépassement sur le leader, mais les deux pilotes s’accrochaient. Abbasse filait alors en tête de la course, avant de voir Paolo De Conto (CRG-TM) lui mettre la pression et le doubler. Dès lors, Abbasse se rangeait dans le sillage du pilote CRG. Tour après tour, le pilote Sodi allait pousser De Conto dans ses retranchements. Concentré et en pleine confiance depuis ses deux titres de Champion du Monde et d’Europe consécutifs, l’Italien ne commettait pas la moindre erreur et n’allait jamais laisser une seule opportunité à Abbasse. Auteur d’un superbe début de course, Ben Hanley (CrocTM) doublait successivement Simo Puhakka (Kosmic-Vortex) et Jorrit Pex (CRG-TM) pour compléter le podium, tout en parvenant à se rapprocher à moins d’une seconde du duo de tête. Encore très rapide, le Néerlandais Marijn Kremers (Birel Art-TM) s’est fait enfermer au départ et n’a pu faire mieux que 6e devant Douglas Lundberg (Sodi-TM) bon 7e avec l’équipe privée CPB Sport. Le meilleur tour revient à Jordon Lennox-Lamb (Tony KartVortex), 11e derrière ces deux équipiers Pedro Hiltbrand et Marco Ardigo qui terminé in extremis dans le top-10.
KZ1: DE CANTO SEALS HIS SECOND CONSECUTIVE WORLD TITLE ABBASSE SECOND
France was expecting a world championship title in KZ1 at Wackersdorf and we believed that it was on the cards especially when Jérémy Iglesias (Formula K–TM) made the best start in the final after which Anthony Abbasse (Sodi-TM) took up the running. This was because at the start of the race Patrik Hajeh (Kosmic Vortex) tried to pull off a premature overtaking move on the leader and two drivers collided. This left Abbasse in first place until Paolo de Conto decided it was time to up the pressure on him and sliced past the Frenchman. Sodi driver Abbasse slotted in behind De Conto and hassled the Italian mercilessly lap after lap. The latter, who was fully focused and brimming with confidence after his consecutive European and World Championship titles, never put a foot wrong and gave the Frenchman no chance. Ben Hanley (Croc-TM) made a superb start to the race and passed Simo Puhakka (Kosmic-Vortex) and Jorrit Pex (CRG-TM) in quick succession and closed the gap to the two leaders to under a second filling third place on the podium. Very quick Dutchman Marijn Kremers (Birel Art-TM) got hemmed in at the start and couldn’t do any better than sixth in front of Douglas Linberg (Sodi-TM), who sealed a good seventh place with private team CPB Sport. Jordan Lennox-Lamb (Tony Kart-Vortex) saw the flag in 11th place behind his team-mates Pedro Hiltbrand and Marco Ardigo who just scraped into the top 10.

KZ2: ALEX IRLANDO et SODI DÉCROCHENT LE GRAAL
Quelle finale et surtout quel final lors de cette Super Coupe Internationale de KZ2 sur le circuit allemand de Wackersdorf. Un premier élément a eu son importance, avec le Suédois Benjamin Persson (CRG-TM / CRG Holland) qui surprenait l’Italien Riccardo Longhi (Birel Art-TM) à l’extinction des feux. Les premières attaques de ce dernier sur le leader tombait à l’eau, si bien que Marco Zanchetta (Maranello-TM) et Alessandro «Alex» Irlando (Sodi-TM) en profitaient pour le passer. Déjà bien parti en passant de la 6e à la 4e place, Irlando accédait ensuite à la 2e. Zanchetta faisait l’erreur de résister, perdant plusieurs places dans la bagarre. Cet échange de positions permettait à Persson de prendre près de deux secondes d’avance. S’en suivaient une longue course poursuite avec Irlando et Longhi lancés à la poursuite du leader. A force de pousser, ils opéraient la jonction. La lutte finale à trois pouvait commencer, avec 5-6 tours de folie. Auteur du meilleur tour, Irlando a longtemps buté sur Persson, tandis que Longhi semblait hésiter à porter une attaque, attendant que peut-être de profiter de la bagarre entre les deux. Finalement, Irlando forçait son rival à repousser son freinage dans une des dernières épingles. Irlando arrondissait et ressortait mieux du virage, ce qui lui permettait de plonger à la corde du dernier virage. Mission accomplie ! Irlando offrait une magnifique victoire mondiale à Sodi et TM, laissant Persson lâcher une larme sur le podium. Longhi pouvait peut-être s’en vouloir de n’avoir rien tenté, car il avait aussi la performance pour jouer le titre.
KZ2: ALEX IRLANDO and SODI STRIKE GOLD!
What an incredible final! The KZ2 International Super Cup final on the Wackersdorf circuit in Germany was a really cracking race! When the lights went out Swede Benjamin Persson (CRG-TM/CRG Holland) got the drop on Italian Riccardo Longhi (Birel Art-TM), a move which played a part in the final outcome. The latter’s early attacks on the leader came to nothing and Mario Zanchetta (Maranello-TM) and Alessandro “Alex” Irlando (Sodi-TM) got past him. Irlando who’d already made a stunning start moving up from sixth to fourth quickly got up into second. Zanchetta tried to fight him off and lost several places in the battle. This position swap allowed Persson to open up a lead of almost two seconds. Irlando and Longhi went pedal to the metal as they chased down the Swede. By pushing hard they closed the gap triggering a three-way battle for victory that went on for five or six crazy laps. Try as he might Irlando, who set the fastest lap, couldn’t find a way past Persson for a long time while Longhi seemed almost reluctant to launch an attack. Perhaps he was hoping to take advantage of the battle between the two leaders. Finally, Irlando forced his rival to brake very late in one of the final hairpins. He opened up his trajectory, made a better exit out of the corner and was able to dive up the inside of the Swede in the final one to snatch first place. Mission accomplished! He gave Sodi and TM a marvellous world championship victory leaving Persson to shed a tear on the podium. Longhi must have felt like kicking himself for not making a move as he was quick enough to fight for the title.
