SPORTS HUB COMPLEX

TYPOLOGY

The site is located in hyderabad, Telangana. This site has an existing cricket grounds with a gallery which is actively being used for training and by the near by educational facilities. to enhance the potential of the site by providing more sports amenities that is accesiible to all in a recreational aspect in small phases. The intent behind the sports hub is to make room for visual connectivity and intertwine the building with landscape and day light in the common areas which reduces the use of artificial light during the day. The building is a fusion of indoor and outdoor sports being split into three zones.Two zones for indoor sports and one for outdoor that is commonly bridges by a lobby and corridors that are both indoor and outdoor. This campus also has recreational parks for the users to have a place to relax on the outdoors or to address a common gathering.

FORM EVOLUTION

A block mass was developed based on the spatial zoning from which the front portion was altered for a grand concourse and break the monotony.

TERRACE FLOOR AND ROOF

To break the continuity of the form a void was created between the main complex and the natatorium.

According to height requirements the masses were raised.

FIRST FLOOR

Service cores and opening for ample light were introduced.

A combination of sloped and curved roof was introduced for functional and aesthetic purpose.

REVITALISATION OF A TEMPLE PRECINCT URBAN TRANSFORMATION Mylapore or Thirumaiyllai is located in the core of the city in Central Chennai. It is close to the beach with Santhome being an immediate neighbouring district. It is one of the oldest and dense districts of the city that attract the people of the city with its heritage, commercial. With a changing streetscape and a festive outlook into the activities that take place in the precinct, the cultural and historical significance of those activities and identified methods to improve the quality of life in this region. A design intervention was proposed made with the analysis made from the study that is based on the oppurtunities and challenges opposed in the region of study. This project was done with a team of four to understand Mylapore and to propose suitable interventions based on the study and analysis that was developed. Softwares used Sketchup, Autocad, Adobe photoshop and Lumion

INTRODUCTION The overall master plan of the selected precinct and further in this five important nodes are highlighted to explain in detail the design strategies as each node has varying issues and the design adopted is in response to the situation.

NORTH MADA -TANK ROAD JUNCTION The intent was to provide two shop typologies one for the permanent shops for the existing shopkeepers along North mada and for the East tank road the form changed taking the tank and shop typology into consideration.

Utilising the benefits of an existing tea stall and create a recreational zone with ample seating area and landscaping with native plant species.

A roundabout with traffic signal, To make navigation hassle free has been introduced

This Junction experiences vehicular due to improper navigation facilities. To resolve the issue a roundabout and pedestrian crossing at the beginging of each road is introduced to keep it hassle free. This junction also holds important landmarks which was redesigned using vernacular materials and Landscape.

WEAVER’S CENTRE - ENTERPRISING INDUSTRIAL HERITAGE THROUGH EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING ARCHITECTURAL THESIS The objective is to enhance the second most economy generating profession and enhance the existing art form with the new technologies and collaborate with experts in the professions of weaving and design to curate new products. This proposal also aims at creating an interface between designers, producers and buyers along with organizing a teaching platform by conducting workshops and seminars that could help with the training process and curate new techniques. A Centre that acts as an experiential learning and training platform for the people in this industry and also a place of community interest inviting people for conducting public activities supporting other local artists and local activities. INTRODUCTION TO THE WEAVER’S COMMUNITY

ABOUT THE SITE Murugan Colony a 50yr old weaving community is situated in Kancheepuram, Tamil Nadu. This community has weavers who use handloom and jacquard loom. A group of weavers teach the pre weaving activities for women and that helps generate income. The community has master weavers, skilled weavers and designers. The colony is 5kms away from the main district and the site is situated inside the colony and the area is 6.45 acres. The site can be accessed via the Chengalpattu – Chennai highway and the pachaiyappa’s college for men acts as a navigational landmark.

The spaces are zoned primarily into three predominant categories Institutional, Retail and Recreational. HANDLOOM SCHOOL

The visitor’s block and Handloom school are the main public spaces and so they are prioritised to be at the entry.

The dyeing unit with landscape is for drying out the loom and is located at a place for convenient access of service vehicles and be visually connected.

AMPHITHEATRE

The commercial spaces being in close proximity to the entry can allow the users to directly access this zone. A central spine is created that differentiates the institutional and commercial fabric.

The lateral stretch between the weaving studio and commercial area creates a street like pattern leading to the amphitheater and accomodation block around existing landscape.

The weaving studio is planned out keeping in mind that these spaces require North- South orientation and is connecting to the commercial fabric.

Creating a street like pattern which in turn resonates how the corridor of the typical south Indian houses are in context which has a Thinnai that act as a common space.

The Façade of these structures have seamless vertical wooden rafters with sliding window and a roof system that is a combination of sloped and madras terrace roof.

RECREATION AND ENTERTAINMENT

The amphitheatre is located at the lowest point of the site to help with the formulation of steps and oriented in alignment to the mandapem that develops a street and makes it a space at which the trail can end.

RETAIL - SPORTS The site had a varying difference in contour levels across the site. The zoning of landscape pockets, resting area and retail shops were done to play along the levels the site and avoid the process of cut and fill to the maximum possibilty.

FREELANCE PROJECT BEDROOM DESIGN This interior project focuses on transforming a small room with a french window into a bedroom for the client with sufficient space for wardrobe and workstatiton. The client being very particular about having a seating space beside the long window is the point from which the design evolves and to furnish the space in a pastel tone.
