 To learn about classification and distribution of field crops  To learn about the various cropping systems and cultivation practices of major field crops  To be familiar with fertilizer and herbicide application methods

Course Outcome

At the end of this course, the students will be able to  Remember classification and distribution of major field crops  Define and explain the concepts of multiple cropping, mixed cropping, intercropping, relay and alley cropping  Gain knowledge about major field crops and cropping systems

Theory

Classification and distribution of field crops, definitions and concept of multiple cropping, mixed cropping, intercropping, relay and alley cropping, cultural practices for raising major cereals (rice), pulses (red gram), oil seeds (groundnut), sugar crops (sugarcane) and fodder crops, green manuring, crop rotation.

Practical

Identification of crop plants, seeds and weeds. Preparation of cropping scheme. Application of herbicides in field crops.
