What you want to say: Describe your communication intention and its relationship to the fairytale you selected.

After exploring the three fairytales: Rapunzel, Cinderella & Snow White I have decided to relate the story of Snow White to today’s society and culture. Snow White’s original culture relates closely to today’s culture. The story is consumed with greed, power & vanity. Unfortunately much of our society today is run by looks, popularity and wealth. Snow White tells a story of how a mirror determines who the fairest of all the kingdom is. The statements made by this mirror provokes an Evil Queen to try and eliminate the person that is more fair than her. In today’s world the mirror is the venue that bully’s use to pick on others such as texting or social media. The Evil Queen is the bully that picks on others. And Snow White is the victim of these cyber attacks. I would like to find a way to promote awareness of the frequency and repercussions of cyber bullying on today’s youth.

1

Who you want to say it to: Describe your intended audience.

My intended audience are the teens that are being bullied and the teens that are bullying them. I think that awareness and education are powerful tools. When these tools are used correctly they can effect the way people think, act and respond. When teens see statistics of how their peers react to harmful texts, social media blasts, or face-toface verbal abuse they may think differently about how they treat others. Hard facts don’t lie and they can shed light on a harsh reality. Teens pick on others and never think twice. But if they were to see possible repercussions of their actions such as the person they picked on committing suicide they may stop completely. It is easy to not care about repercussions when you don’t think about them, but to have them put in front of you as a hard fact is hard to ignore.

2

Why you want to say it: Describe how this opportunity presented itself through your exploration and why this communication is significant to the intended audience. I want to say this because today’s world is so technology driven and that has positive and negative effects. Technology can promote great aid in education but can also be a tool to harm others by using anonymity to shield them. Bully’s hide behind the computer screen and verbally abuse their peers. It is a whole new wave of bullying. It is awful but I’m sure it is even easier to pick on someone if your identity is shielded and you think that you won’t get caught. But even if you aren’t caught, the person that is bullied still gets hurt or even worse harms themselves. I think it is important for the audience to be jolted by the facts of cyber bullying and it’s harmful results.

3

How you will say it: Describe possible forms that the communication may take. Be sure to consider the use of new technologies in your media exploration. I would like to use the culture of Snow White to impact today’s society. Even though the Evil Queen was powerful she was not liked and lost to Snow White. Much like this story bullying gets you no where and can have horrible repercussions. I would like to show these repercussions using an ad campaign series promoting awareness about cyber bullying. I would like to do 3 ad campaign posters that could possibly be hung in schools for my intended audience to view. The ads will have infographic statistics of cyber bullying effects. The graphics will be colorful and bold having to do with Snow White, thus grabbing the attention of the viewer to take a closer look.
