Inujima is not a typical island. It is like a different world in itself. There are no cars, no roads, no shopping malls, no tall buildings. There is no rush. Time passes slower. The inhabitants are very few in number, in fact all of them could fit into a medium size Milanese apartment house. They grow their own food and take slow walks to appreciate the views. Inujima is an endless source of beautiful landscape experience. Unfortunately, every year more people are passing away quietly and unexpectedly as the average age here is 80. Keeping the island alive becomes an issue. Inujima needs to attract young people. Taking into consideration natural opportunities and the fact that an artistic project was already introduced to the area by Sanaa studio we have decided to propose a school of art and design. In order to use the existing possibilities and beauty of the landscape we have decided to spread the functions all around the island. In a way deconstructing a school building. Our project becomes a path along the island with specific faculties located in certain points. Passage between them becomes an experience itself, being at the same time a moment to think through and contemplate, enhanced by the natural surrounding beauty. Each location was chosen carefully to meet the expectations and needs of the artists. The shape of the faculties was designed to enhance the landscape, never overwhelm it.

URBAN JUNGLE
tutor: Remo Dorigati
Hidden Scenarios This project is a multi functional space dedicated to art. Art meant in many different aspects. Outer skin of the building is meant to be very modest and mysterious. Creating curiosity of what could be found inside. The nucleo of the building is a jungle, in a dual meaning. Rich greenery and endless options of activities that penetrate each other. This space is thought to be a huge trading zone. Trading Zone This space is not strict. It is created by users. Only an imagination limit them. The aim is to exchange ideas, art, thoughts, time, space, interests and activities. Building creates it’s own microclimat. Meaning both unusual atmosphere and the actual climate solutions trying to imitate botanical garden interior. This building is supposed to be a unique universe itself hidden in the very heart of Milan.

Building as an Experience The result is a linear gesture in a scenery that incites a walk through the building and becomes a perceptual experience of changing architecture and nature. In opposition to the fortress characteristics, this structure is very transversal, accessible and open to the public Vegetal Rooms The project site is situated on the southern end of the city of Ohrid. On the opposite end there are the ancient remain of Samuil’s Fortress, one of the most important landmarks in the area. This icon was an inspiration point to create a new landmark. The linear building becomes the fastest connection of opposite entrances. In between there is an occasion to experience different activities and views. Landscape inspired by a nearby fields, becomes a collection of vegetal rooms with diverse flora native to the region. As a watersport centre it provides a great focus on sport facilities, but at the same time it is an interesting public space for many events. As a continuity, a walking path on the roof goes far above the water out over the lake as a pier allowing users to enjoy sport shows and a unique lake view. a new landmark

tutor: Marzia Morena
Identity. Sustainability. Flexibility and Efficiency Already the ancient greek philosopher Heraclitus stated that the only thing that is constant is change. Looking at our world today it seems that change is as omnipresent as never before - transforming our cities, societies and our entire planet. The challenge for future developments in our cities is to develop a new sensitivity for the essential trends which strive for qualitative and resilient concepts. Symbiosis South Takes up the challenge of change by implementing a new campus of business life in the emerging district of Ripamonti and new goals.

RE-S T Y L I N G U N W A N T E D P R O G E N Y Post-Communist Attitude to Modern Architecture in Poland
Master Thesis tutor:
Richard Ingersoll
Poland 45 years of Communism in Poland left an indelible legacy. mentally and physically. a new reality needed a new style. in this ruined post-war country countless objects were created during almost half a century. yet it was inheritance from a regime. a regime that the Polish people tried to overthrow many times, involving repeated bloodshed. with achieving a dream of freedom, this legacy did not disappear. some actions had to be performed. initially most common was abandonment or demolition. but as the Third Polish Republic was growing up and changing, the situation of the previous system’s progeny was also evolving. suffering from galloping capitalism, hunger for diversity, longing for colours, a wish to forget a painful past. all these feelings and desires have a reflection in the treatment of bygone architecture. as for the buildings that tell us their stories fully it means unfortunately many turbulent transitions, dramatic fights and sad endings. this work is focused on the pieces that were dramatically re-stylized, changing completely the identity, the design, and the initial idea of the author. showing the worst nightmare of every architect - that somebody some day will change his progeny disrespectfully.

TAMPLE FOR H I L M A AF K L I N T
Competition
Hilma af Klint (1862 - 1944) was a Swedish artist and a pioneer of abstract painting. More than 110 years after producing the arguably first abstract painting in modern art history, she is still waiting for her due recognition - and a home for her collection. A Temple for Hilma seeks to address this by asking participants to design an art museum dedicated to Hilma af Klint and her work. The project is supposed to symbolize her dual life (a typical woman of her times and spiritual artist when nobody sees). This is why there is a clear border underlining these two opposites. Showing the huge difference between outside and inside impression.
