KAT VELEZ BA, BID
introduction I believe in the importance of challenging built and natural environments through designs which influence and are influenced by s o c i e t i e s , s o c i o - c u l t u r a l h u m a n b e h a v i o u r , s o c i a l interactivity and functionality, and urban sustainability, paralleled with unique, forward-thinking expressionism. The following two and three dimensional presented works represent a collection of selected designs inspired by both my processes of learning and studies of social interaction, functionality and positive socio-ecological, sustainable urban and creative progression. to further my studies in the diverse and stimulating fields of architecture and design would provide the opportunity to harvest and engage in designing and representing unique expressions of both creative potentials and realitic (structural, social, cultural, ecological, and sustainable) feasibilities. To all my supporters and contributors for their valuable opinions and teachings throughout these works, thank you. Kat Velez | vlzk0002@humbermail.ca | 416.220.8435

The CAN-til-EVER house. Using Normerica’s Authentic timber frame construction, this house is an ultra sustainable, modern take on post and beam construction. It has been chosen as a prototype for Normerica’s Contemporary line of home designs. The design intent here was to blur the lines between interior and exterior “spaces”; through materiality, resid e n t ia l su sta in a b le sy stems, and m axi m i zed sightlines.

STREWN WINERY 2011 Credit: Shannon Morrison The design intent for this Niagara, Ontario winery was to create an experience of flow and circulation similar to that of wine flowing through a decanter. The idea of the birthing effect was utilized in this design, whereas the user experiences small, “bottle necked spaces, and flows into larger, more open spaces. Maximizing sight lines to the vineyards guided this design.

BONOBOS POP UP SHOP 2012 This pop up shop was intended to be situated in a New York typical brick and mortar shop in the Meatpacking District. The Cyber Space Pop Up Shop was designed to shatter typical notions of online shopping (such is the Bonobos brand); to be a completely moveable, modular, mobile entity, accessible to all. When placed inside the Meatpacking District shop, this Pop up Pavillion becomes a space within a space; an elusive cube.
