GRIDO, architektura a design March 2021 - July 2022 Grido is a small architectural studio operating more than 20 years in Prague, headed by architect Peter Sticzay-Gromski. The portfolio of this company consists of projects such as residential building OCTOPUS in Bratsilava, Slovak Republic (Mies van der Rohe 2007 nominee), residential complex NIDO in Bratislava (Slovak architecture award CE-ZA-AR 2019), the town hall in Radotín, Czech republic, the school pavilion in Mníšek pod Brdy, Czech republic, family houses and a great number of other projects in Slovak and Czech republic. Grido is participating in architectural competitions for school projects, libraries, community centers, sports halls and many more. In this studio I worked on a wide range of projects from basic design to execution design. Primarily I designed family houses, cottages, apartment buildings, public park, and interior design. I was responsible for the communication with the client, engineers - the fire safety engineer, structural engeneer or MEP engineer. I handled a communication with plannig authorities and the planning permission process. Following project is my favorite project in Grido - a family house in Vonoklasy, which is a small village located 10 km southwest from Prague. This village belongs to the protected natural area, which means we had to deal with many restrictions related to architecture and urban planning. I worked on this house from case study to the planning permission and I was responsible for the communication with a client and I was also responsible to coordinate communication with the fire safety engineer, structural engineer and MEP engineer. I also dealt with the communication with a planning authorities and I handled all the administrative work during this process. At the beginning of this year we got the planning permition. Next project is a renewal of a public park in Bratislava. In this case, a client was a Metropolitan Institute of Bratislava, which seeks to improve a public space for residents and visitors of the city. We were lucky that we could participate on this project. We consulted the proposal with the city and with the traffic engineers, and the final proposal was presented to the mayor of the city district and also to the residents. The proposal was welcomed with a good feedback and I hope, that it will improve the everyday life of the residents. The last project was a renovation of the mountain cottage named Zamkovského chata in Slovak Mountains - Vysoké Tatry. This cottage is well known among tourists and it means a nice place to stop for refreshing yourself during a hike. The cottage also offers an accommodation. History of the cottage dates back to 1943, when it was built by the Slovak climber Štefan Zamkovský. The main idea was to retain the original character of the building with respect, in minimalist contemporary style. The interior design was inspired by the work of two great Slovak and Czech architects of 19th century - Dušan Jurkovič and Josef Gočár. The aim was to propose the facade, floorplan changes and interior design of common areas- the restaurant, the corridors and the concept of the rooms. The last page shows other conceptual proposals. The visualisations of all projects were outsorced to visualisation studio.

Interior design_kitchen+living room October 2020 Interior design of the kitchen and living room for couple in Slovakia. Main idea of proposal was to find the best rearrangement of space and to create a home in small apartment. The benefit was not to follow established traditions of living room with big TV on the wall, but together we reached open space intended for meeting, talking and spending time with family. Realization of this project was suspended due to price increases during the epidemic situation and the war in Ukraine.

Vale de Moses_meditation cabin Architectural competition_Portugal 2020_BeeBreeders The Vale De Moses Meditation Cabins competition was the first in a series of competitions based in Portugal and the first in partnership with Vale de Moses. For this competition, participants were being asked to create designs for a cabin that could be replicated in any number of spots throughout the retreat. The cabin’s main purpose is to allow guests to experience treatments and meditation sessions that allow them to reconnect with themselves, and to the surrounding forest, gardens and natural elements. Each cabin should provide sufficient space for one guest and one therapist; providing a world class healing space that connects each guest to the beauty of nature, while at the same time protecting them from its harsher elements.

In ZEN, ensō ("circle") is a circle that is hand-drawn in one or two uninhibited brushstrokes to expexpress a moment when the mind is free to let the body create. The ensō symbolizes absolute enlightment, strength, elegance, the universe, and mu (the void). It is characterised by a minimalism born of Japanese aesthetics. “Zen circles, ensō, are symbols of teaching, reality, enlightenment, and a myriad of things in between. Seemingly perfect in their continuity, balance, and sense of completeness, and yet often irregular in execution, ensō are at once the most fundamentally simple and the most complex shape. They seem to leave little room for variation, and yet in the hands of Zen masters, the varieties of personal expression are endless. Ensō evoke power, dynamism, charm, humor, drama, and stillness.” Zen Buddhists “believe that the character of the artist is fully exposed in how she or he draws an ensō. Only a person who is mentally and spiritually complete can draw a true ensō.” In traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete". It is a concept derived from the Buddhist teaching of the three marks of existence, specifically impermanence, suffering and emptiness or absence of self-nature. Characteristics of the wabi-sabi aesthetic include assymetry, roughness, simplicity, economy, austerity, modesty, intimacy, and appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural objects and processes. Wabi originally referred to the loneliness of living in nature, remote from society; sabi meant "chill", "lean" or "withered". Wabi connotes rustic simplicity, freshness or quietness, and can be applied to both natural and human-made objects, or understated elegance. It can also refer to quirks and anomalies arising from the process of construction, which add uniqueness and elegance to the object. Sabi is beauty or serenity that comes with age, when the life of the object and its impermanence are evidenced in its patina and wear, or in any visible repairs. "If an object or expression can bring about, within us, a sense of serene melancholy and a spiritual longing, then that object could be said to be wabi-sabi." (Andrew Juniper)

Vale de Moses Meditation Cabins are located in central area of Portugal, out of reach of everyday troubles hidden in the mountain forest. The location with its Mediterranean climate provides long summers with warm temperatures during a day and the mountainous topography allows one to cool down during night. One cabin can accommodate one guest and his therapist. After exploration of the surrounding area during hikes or enjoying undisturbed nature in some forest baths, guests can find peace and quietness of the forest in the cabin. Wooden sunblind covered by plants allows guests to enjoy their sessions privately, while at the same time they can enjoy views into the valley and connect with the spirit of this place on their own. Meditation cabin is designed with respect to wabi sabi aesthetics. Beauty of imperfection and roughness is characterized by wooden natural facade along with climbing plants. With choosen materials, the appearance of cabin is uncertain with the passing time. Facade eventually takes a patina and it´s defects add value to the object. Green facade also provides pleasant indoor climate, wooden facade helps against overheating in summer. Shape of cabin is designed as a compact simple mass with embedded main entrance to provide protection against weather. Entrance is accessible by stairs, but there is enough space to build a ramp for at least one cabin to get access for disabled person. Interior contains of a small entrance hall (which serves as a dressing room before procedures), storage (with enough space for storage a massage table, oils and other equipment) and the main space for activities (massages, acupuncture, yoga, meditation). Behind light sliding wall is hidden a sink with typical Portugal tiles. Openable glass wall in front of object provide access to terrace, covered by wooden cladding. Outdoor space supplements a water tank with possibility of growing aquatic plants as a waterlily or using floating candles in the evening. Main construction material for the cabins is wood accompanied by cork in flooring and thermal insulation of wooden walls. As a natural, sustainable, local and carbon negative materials, these were obvious choice and completely goes in line with the spirit of the Vale de Moses facility and has a minimal impact on enviroment. The cabins by the nature of their usage requires little energy to run. Providing electric power to provide sufficient light after sunset and to run small water pump for a sink is achievable by using solar panels. Single Cabin Power Consumption: 6pcs of LED Lights……………….5kW/month Water pump………………….......……0.1kW/month Total power consumption…..5.1kW/month With average power production of 12.5kW/month/1m2 solar panel we will need 2m2 of panels to comfortably accommodate four cabins.
