ART BRIDGE, REBUILDING A COMMUNITY CENTRE THROUGH ART Thesis Project Adviser: Herbert Enns Fall 2019 - Winter 2020 | Winnipeg, Manitoba Software: Revit, AutoCAD, Blender, Rhino, Houdini, Photoshop, Illustrator, Unreal Engine 4.

EUPHORIA VS ISOLATION Concepts of euphoria and isolation are how the project commenced. Factors such as the structure of the city, culture diversity, harsh climate, the style of education and somewhat modern life affect how people feel. The feeling of happiness is mainly under human conscious control and based on intentional activities.1 A happy place has the qualities where people feel they belong there and it is designed for the varied dimensions of people’s lives. It could be incorporated with mixeduse environments that integrate opportunities to work, learn, shop and relax. Additionally, it respects local knowledge. 1 Lyubomirsky, Sonja. Isolation Euphoria

Images created in Houdini Euphoria and isolation contrast

Human interactions affect the shape of space during time in a spontaneous and unpredictable way. Space is not about the object but interactions and behaviours. It nurtures, acts, connects, comforts and teaches us to play in and love it. Buildings straighten local community and connect people to one another. DESIGN PROCESS

4

Human beings are social creatures. Lack of enough human connection leads to physical, emotional and spiritual sufferings. Throughout history, art has been a subject that has risen the interests and united people from all around the world. Therefore, this thesis is dedicated to proposing a quality place where people meet and socialize; where art and culture come together to bring people of Winnipeg closer. A community art centre presents art as a medium and aim to be a space for creative and social activities.

Built models

The fabrics in the cubic frame define space. They are all sewed together in a way that by pulling one side, all the rest gets affected by that movement and stretches.

SITE The proposed site is located on Alexander Docks, crossing Red River to the east side of the city, North Saint-Boniface. It is a historically important location with access to the river. The dock was built in 1929 as a key transportation hub for trading.

THE STRUCTURE The bridge has an autonomous structure to maintain the strength to cross the river without any piers. The structure resembles a river of strands flowing in the bridge. Fifteen primary horizontal strands are in line with the river span going up and down to allow the possibility of having voids in the form.

MARS INHABITATION PROGRAM Masters Year 1 Adviser: Herbert Enns Fall 2019 - Winter 2020 | Winnipeg, Manitoba Software: Revit, AutoCAD, Blender, Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator.

This project is about colonization on Mars formed according to the landscape and remoteness. It is a compacted city on Mars; first steps of colonization of Mars. A group of scientists and engineers, about 20 people leave Earth to live on Mars and do experiments and prepare for the arrival of next generations. The main project is located on south pole of Mars, however the prototype of which would be settled in Iceland on Langjรถkull glacier, over the man-made ice cave. This is a prototype of a new lifestyle for future generations living on mars. Since the environment is harsh and inhabitable on Mars, a shell is needed to protect the interior from the outside. There is the possibility of expanding the settlement on Mars by mining and carving down the ice, spreading vertically and horizontally.

HOUSE OF MUSIC Undergraduate Studio 6 Adviser: Nooshin Ziashahabi Winter 2017 | Tehran, Iran Software: Revit, AutoCAD, Blender, Photoshop, Illustrator. House of Music is a place, where people can perform many activities related to music. To create a space suitable for students, teachers and visitors, a few musicians have been enquired. Architecture and Music are linked. Musical elements such as dynamics, phrasing and timber can also be interpreted as elements in architecture, such as luminosity, movement and materiality, respectively.

EYES WIDE SHUT, SOCIAL HOUSING FOR DECAY Undergraduate Studio 5 Adviser: Hamid Naserkhaki Fall 2017 | Tehran, Iran Software: Rhino, Blender, Photoshop, Illustrator, 3D Builder. Pardis is a new town near Tehran with many residential complexes built for people working in Tehran who cannot afford high costs of living in a big city.

Negative typological models_Rhino

Collision typological models_Rhino

The topological model was built and inverted in Rhino to produce the negative space.

The collision of deformed negative spaces and the site would be where people can live and every function would be defined by the form.

A group of thirteen dealt with this issue differently with the idea of decay. Self decaying was the idea behind the project which started with studies on schizophrenia, psychedelics and finally afterimage and their effects on the human mind and building prototypes.

HOSPITAL Undergraduate Studio 4 - In partnership of Nasim Sadeghpour Adviser: Manoochehr Moazzami, Behshid Hosseini Winter 2016 | Tehran, Iran Software: Revit, Blender, Photoshop. The aim of this project is to design a eighty bed hospital in Karaj, Iran. All the required functions had to be designed according to hospital rules and we did everything together as a group.

ARTS VOID Undergraduate Studio 1 Adviser: Manoochehr Moazzami Winter 2015 | Tehran, Iran Software: AutoCAD, Revit, Blender, Photoshop. The aim of this project was to create a space, in which not only people could socialize, but also learn about different types of arts. There is a combination of green spaces and educational-cultural place. For easier commute and having a green view, the ground level consists of a green landscape and pedestrian paths. So, the arts are in the lower ground-level and makes the place more cozy and friendly, without cars intrusion. Based on De Stijl, a grid was first drawn on the site plan and based on the functions, the rectangles got coloured based on the functions.

BATTLE OF THE PRAIRIES Competition Extracurricular Activity January - March 2020 | Calgary, Alberta Software: Blender, Rhino, Photoshop, Illustrator, Excel. A group of eight students from Architecture, City Planning, Landscape and MBA from University of Manitoba, submitted a site development proposal for a parcel of land in downtown Calgary. As a group, we worked on financial, market, regulations and design aspects for the proposal. Individually, I was more engaged with design and the cost of construction aspects. The submission and presentation were different parts of this competition. The presentation of the proposal was as a group in Calgary in front of a number of professionals and juries.

Orange debris netting, poplar post and the cables

For the 10th anniversary of the Warming Huts, a winter hub was proposed on the river at the Forks Harbor.

The assembly

I joined the group for the assembly part of the project, which took five days to complete. First, the cables were assembled on campus to test the joints. After the first assembly turned out successful, everything got transported on the actual site at the Forks. On the site, the wood columns got attached to the marked points on the ice. I assisted with connecting the nets to the cables and, them to the wooden columns. 17

TENSEGRITY MONUMENT Adviser: Mahdi Mahdavinia In Collaboration with: Hasti Fakuri, Mahsa Hajian, Nasrin Larijani, Mahtab Moradi. Fall 2017 | Tehran, Iran

As a group of five, we designed and built the monument. Due to our interest in tensegrity structure, we figured out the module and populated it to create a form by starting modelling in Rhino. The built materials were Light-weight pipes, cables, turnbuckles and rayon textile to have a light structure. We connected the pipes first and then applied the textile. Setting up the modules and their assembly resulted in the final project.
