Editorial by Senior Editor Kat hryn Day

H

ave you ever thought about all it takes to go into design? Art and Design take a lot of thought to process out how something will look to the reader when laid out, the designer wants that just right feel. You can have a hundred ideas, but you will only have the satisfaction when you come up with the ideal design that you feel will grab your readers attention. The same goes into a good painting. That is why I have taken the time to give you my thoughts on how Explosive Typography really can be when given the time and dedication to having the layout that you feel good about and you know the readers will have as well. Here at Mod print and review, I have decided to do an editorial each month that I feel will keep my reader’s attention. I hope that you will enjoy tips and ideas that I will give in the coming months to keep you fasinated and will love to read. Have you wondered what all it takes to go into design, and the steps in the proces? Sometimes you will have to run through several different ideas until you find that one idea you can take pleasue in creating. Graphic Desoigner’s will find them selves behind or in front of their computer screen for hours on end. The beauty is in the creation of design and dedication behind the screen.

I must of changed my mind so many times before designing this page, I finally had come up with a design I would be proud to show. I first started with making letters into symbols, I was not happy with the way it was coming out, so I decided to make my own patterns with the paintbrush in Illustrator. Which was quite simple enough. You start with your type of what word you want to make a pattern with, and then you create an outline. Now, go up to your brush panel and click on the three line and go to make brush. Basiclly, you are playing around until you get that look you are happy with. For my header I went into Photoshop, do not let your CC Photoshop be open for very long or it will not do some things and you will have to close your program out and restart it. After a few hours of frustration, I found that out the hard way. I finally was able to accomplish what I had set out to do which was to make a clipping mask for my header, “Typographty is Everything.” The font that I used is called Lust Script, it is great for Headers! I use the color’s of Cyan, Magenta, and yellow for the CMYK colors. and a few extras to give it some life. I created the page with the graphics and typography art in Illustrator. Them I brought my creation into InDesign. I hope you enjoy!

I love typography......... 4 | Mod print & review

She is currently in the process of re-painting “the Darrius Begs for Mercy from Alexander”, painting. She is re-painting it until she gets it authoritatively right or authoritatively wrong! Behnaz Miremdi is an upcoming artist that I think is going to awe her audience with the beautiful detail in her amazing watercolors. Behanz came over to the United States in 2004, from Tehran, Iran. She comes from a secular Iranian family with a deep attachment to art, dating back to Kamal-ol-Molk Art School. Since immigrating with her family to Kansas City, she has sought to carry on her grandfather’s legacy in her paintings. She is currently in the process of re-painting “the Darrius Begs for Mercy from Alexander,” painting. She is re-painting it until she gets it authoritatively right or authoritatively wrong!

The Kamal-ol-Molk Art School was a movement where western traditions infused classical Persian motifs. Cobbling together art fascinates her, and she wants to be a part of a community that gathers all the pieces necessary for its members success, whether in arts or life in general.
