CASE STUDIES
EMILIANO PONZI Emiliano Ponzi is based in Milan, Italy. His bold textured illustrations use repetition, a judicious use of line and strong graphic compositions to define and communicate the concept at hand. The play of visual metaphor and symbolism are continuous themes throughout his work
Eric pickersgill
Photographer Eric Pickersgill uses Photoshop to remove peoples phones from the photograph, I first came across his work on social media, people sharing it and saying how shocking it was. I think the images perfectly encapture the ways in which social media is dislocating us from the most important things in life to be present elsehere in a virtual reality that doesn’t really exist.
JEAN JULLIEN
Jean Jullien is one of the most celebrated illustrators of our time, much of his work focuses around social media and the effect it is having on people, one of my favourites of his work is the ‘never alone’ piece on the right, I think it links back to some of the points I mde in my first article backed up by the guardian online, I think his work would be an interesting starting point for cop 6.
REFLECTIVE PRACTICE
1) Exploring the different styles of social media account through colour and different reuccuring themes, using these in my dissertation and possibly as collage in my practical work 2) Taking inspiration from the most successful illustrators of our time and injecting their style into my own work, I could then present my work before and after inspiration on an online survey and get people to vote for which illustrations they feel was the most successful 3) Create work based off interviewing my peers and the pressure they may r may not feel from the already huge illustration market all fighting to get work 4) Find proffessionals to interview and create work conflicting between how they feel about their work and how illsutrators who are still or have just left university view their practice 5) Create a body of work exploring how our individual styles and practices change depending on our own self worth at that point in our life, I feel A good media for this would be mono or screen print, you can create some quite stormy textures using the different inks and think it would work well with the style of my own practice.
