OUR PREMISE After glancing at a motivational meme Kate is struck with a sense of wonderment. It’s hit a nerve and she needs to escape her mundane life and live in the greatest city in the country- Toronto. Now she’s moved into her brother’s loft and is starting completely anew. Her big problem is that her small town values are getting in the way of her understanding big city trends, political correctness, and of course that the rent is too damn high. She meet’s Quinn, her brother’s best friend and popular social media artist, Alex, Matt’s career-driven and charming ex-girlfriend who to take her under their wing. With their help, Kate does her best to fulfill her life exploring all the big city has to offer.
Hey look it’s a quirky f ish out of wa ter based in Toronto!
KATE
KATIE LEANNE-DAWN BLORC H “ THE LEAD”
•
Kate is playing catch up- pure and simple. She never left her small town, she was married at 23, she’s doesn’t know whats cool- she doesn’t even have a smart phone.
•
But now she’s following her dreams and living in the city. She needs to learn pretty much everything about being a millennial: what to wear, how to not offend people, what insta/ facebook/snapchat/tinder is, feminism, liberalism, yoga, the “arts.”
•
Well everything- but she's ready and willing to change her life for the better.
She’s like that dog loating in space f ying around tr . to air walk
MATT
MATTHEW OTIS BLORC H “ THE SNARKY HOTHEAD” Matt, as Kate’s brother, also hails from the small-town of Old Craigsdale and has resentment for it’s humble, not so special, community.
Matt’s a dick.
He came to the city to try his hand at enterprise. He owns a boutique bike repair shop but has high hopes it will become a business empire. He believes in capitalism, hates the government, is extremely stubborn, and believes most conspiracy theories are real. Like his sister, he has absolutely no filter and thinks he can take on the world.
QYNN
QUINN PERSUAD “ THE LIKEABLE COOL -GUY”
Qynn is that cool hipster artist people like having around at parties. He knows what’s cool and isn’t afraid to remind people what’s not. His “art pieces” don’t really make sense but he’s achieved 100k followers on instagram so he’s content He uses Matt’s stupidly large loft to create his projects and Matt get’s to feed off his popularity to sell his business. He wants to prove he truly is an artist and not just some instagrammer. When Qynn meet’s Kate is completely baffled by her lack of awareness and finds it weirdly compelling.
Everybod y loves Quinn. B ut be cool ok ay?
ALEX
ALEXANDRA FORD “ THE ALPHA WOMAN” eping Try ke es this on on attenti e then for mor nds. o c e s 0 2
•
Alex is a quick-witted no bullshit power woman. She’s caring, when you can get her attention, but usually bats away people like flies. She’s responsible and always knows the best way forward.
•
Since breaking up with Matt, she’s done very well for herself but has only found shallow one-night stands and long nights of partying. She’s sick and tired of the “Scene” and the “fake” people she see’s at work and networking events.
•
At a Qyn event, she meets Kate and is pulled into her world as she see’s Kate as “the most genuine person she’s ever met.”. As Kate’s new best friend, she now has to deal with Matt’s plans to get her back.
JOSHUA
JOSHUA HUNT “NICES T, DUMBES T MAN IN THE WORLD” Joshua is a happy simpleton. His decisions are quick, his emotions are positive, but doesn’t always think about the consequences of his actions. At the first sign of Kate being missing he immediately goes on to the next thing without skipping a beat. He married her at the age of 21 on whim and purchased the SS Wet Dreams on first offer. His dream is to sail to Kingston, Ontario and not be in the way of anyones good vibes. Joshua is the nicest, dumbest man in the series.
THE CITY
This city isn’t wha t you think it is.
The liberal city of Toronto is a complete culture shock for Kate, an ubersheltered small-town girl, who is forced to confront the harsh realities of life and societal fallacies . As our main character learns what it’s like to be an accepting and tolerant member of progressive society, she’ll encounter poverty, classism, sexism, hipsterism, homelessness, yuppies, trendies, foodies, yogis, public indecency, egoism and, of course, the cold-hearted dating scene.

Let’s just get to the point here.
BUT WHAT DOES IT MEAN Kate is a satire on the “millennial.”
Our comedy, while being watchable and fun, deals with the harsh and jarring realities of growing up in modern day with topics like social justice, trendiness, greediness, laziness, post curation, activism, rising rent cost, terrorism, cognitive dissonance, self reliance, narcissism, cynicism, etc. Kate’s purpose is to reflect the demographics worst traits and most absurd behaviours. Further, each of our main characters embodies one of four “pillars” of millennialism. Kate is optimism. Matt is entitlement. Quinn is narcissism. Alex is cynicism. Each character takes Kate under their wing to teach her their ways and as she starts reflecting them. In doing this Kate, throughout the story, changes in many superficial ways keeping our vessel in this journey interesting and fresh but in the end she always sticks to her gut instinct, the Craigsdale Way, which ultimately saves her from losing everything. This is the story of Kate, but really it’s the story of everyone who moves to the city and in a way, every one who’s growing up in the 2000’s.
