Smart pen / live scribe Workbridge

smartpen.co.nz The smart pen works in conjunction with smart paper and enables the recording and easy retrieval of spoken conversations / lectures / tutorials. It can record up to 450 hours.

Support Funds are used to cover the applicant’s “cost of disability� - any additional costs that a jobseeker or student has as a direct consequence of their disability, when undertaking the same job or training as a person without a disability. A formal application with professional diagnosis and advice required.

Learning Support offers individualised tutoring, resources and advice for struggling learners, their parents and teachers.

Dyslexic individuals tend to think in pictures rather than words, receiving and retrieving information in a different part of the brain to neurotypical, word-based thinkers. Dyslexia can also affect more than words alone, impacting skills such as auditory and information processing, planning and organising, motor skills, short-term memory and concentration. Material reasoning

Narrative reasoning

Material Reasoning is being able to take a 3-D perspective of physical objects in your mind. It is similar to spatial reasoning.

The ability to think of concepts and ideas as narratives or stories from own memories, and using it to develop ideas and solve problems. Narrative reasoning is being able to create vivid “mental scenes� to display important ideas and concepts from the past, present or future.

This is a very useful skill, and this skill helps to create many important inventions such as the chairlift. Many great engineers, designers, architects, mechanics, inventors, builders, and surgeons have had this M strength that came along with their dyslexia. 10

I Interconnected reasoning

Dynamic reasoning

The ability to spot connections between different objects, concepts and points of view.

The ability to imagine or predict how spatial images can be changed by other factors and come up with a best fit prediction. Dynamic reasoning is being able to take in information and be able to accurately predict past and future occurrences.

It is being able to create a web, just like a spider does, where everything is connected. It’s taking in different perspectives and approaches and creating a big-picture view. Many talented naturalists, artists, designers and scientists have this strength that comes with their dyslexia.

It’s being able to use qualitative data to help deal with changes and uncertainty. I.e.: Geology - seeing in 3D
