Mirror Conversation a heterotpia for stranger
Mirror conversation is a project I did during my bachelor. This project was constructed in Changsha, China. To me, it is the starting point of taking concern for conversation as an architect. Asians seem always to have a problem socializing and communicating in modern society. Their cultural background gives them an inevitable introvert personality, but at the same time, they desire to communicate with others, which creates contradictions. On this site, there are students, teachers, local residents, workers, adults, children, men, women, humans, and animals... When we are "strangers", I hope that this device could be capable of creating a heterotopia that becomes an activation point for icebreaking without being deliberate and embarrassing, at the same time, strangers are given opportunities to understand the similarities and differences between individuals, thereby further creating opportunities for communication with others.
Herterotopia is the world we can sense but could never reach in reality. Like the world in the mirror when we looked into it. But as far as I know, most of people foucs their attention on themselves rather than paying attention to other individuals. More and more people are complaining about loneliness. But a little of them have chance to know others. In this design, I want to mix the real world with heterotopia in order to set a trick for strangers. They would fall in to my trap of wonderland, accidentally start to realize the exist of others and find the miraculous reaction that could happen between different bodies.
CATCH ME IF YOU CAN In order to set the trap, first I used an iron frame to set the boundary of the "world". To stimulate reality, I put a pair of chairs which face to each other to force users face each other. Than I let the double-faced mirror stand in the middle to reflect heterotopia of each user. Finally I "stealthily" infiltrate the reality in this small wonderland with a whole piece of glass in the middle of the mirror like a sandwich, so users will never know the truth about this world unless they sit down and start to look.

SET THE WORLD
The whole frame seems harmless to attract people to sit in it. While sitting alone, you will be curious to see that there is nothing but the background of your side in the mirror, you will see your feet, but your body will disappear.
Perhaps by the moments you are still confusing, another person step in. Everything happens like accidentally, suddendly you look at a stranger directly in the eye. You will see her face mixing with your arms and legs. WOW!
A TOUNSAND PERSPECTIVES OF ME
There are innumerable biological identities in this world, amazing things would happen if we start to realize the difference between individuals. With combination of differnt sex, size, age, colour,species...... we can see how simliar we are and how different we are.

Staircase Conversation
a renovation fragment for Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, Netherlands
Just like the Tower of Babel, art itself is a collection. We always look for order and rhythm in utopia. In this design , we traced the trajectory of the visitors, visited the museum with their eyes, explored the way of dialogue between spaces, and how they cooperated, interacted and contradicted each other. When space has something more than function, it becomes a place. We look forward to being able to save the most of the original Boijmans museum in our own language, with a small change - a new staircase that will make the museum, better and more beautiful.

1.The Pavilion by Hubert-Jan Henket(1991) 2.The office space by Robbrecht and Daem(2003)
This museum is currently under renovation. After researching its current situation, we found that it has four main parts. Originally built by Ad van der Steur, the main entrance was still at the tall tower along the street at this time. With the symmetrical design of Budon in 1972, the facade of the street was renovated later, and the pavilion was added at the rear. The entrance to the museum has been moved to the inner courtyard, it is no longer clear to pedestrians. Because of the transformation of different architects, the visiting routine has been a bit chaotic. The current state of the museum is somewhat messy. The architectural style of the early 19th century is mixed with modern architecture, making it difficult to distinguish which piece is which piece even if it is walking beside its street facade. The experience of visitors at the museum is not very good.

If we focus on the routine of visiting the exhibition, we find that the different exhibition halls are connected horizontally and vertically through the staircase rooms in the Boijmans. The museum has permanent exhibitions in the Van der Steur part and temporary exhibitions in the Bodon part. Due to the mixing of circulation and the closure of some staircases, visitors sometimes have to repeat the routine they have done, or are obstructeWd at the end of the road and can only turn back. In the diagram, I marked such places with X. Therefore, the staircases can be said to be the key to organizing the routine of this museum. Can we sort out the logic between the staircases and bring new possibilities to the museum?

I am moved by the complicated staircase composition of this museum. There are five stairs in the original situation. Staircase A is the oldest part of the entrance that spirals up like a landscape. Its main material is a variety of marbles. B is also the oldest. It was moved from another museum and it made more use of wood and stone. C is a new-style staircase, using CLT panels. Both E1 and E2 are using steel structures with a small volume, and they were abandoned in the museum for some reason.

We found that the circulation of different exhibition halls can be connected through the staircase. However, there is no staircase between exhibition 4 and exhibition 5 to connect to each other. At the same time, exhibition 6-1 and 6-2 could not form a closed routine with them. At the same time, observing the characteristics of existing stairs, we found that they can be divided into three groups through similar forms and materials, namely square stairs + wood group, square stairs + steel group, and circular stairs + marble group. Based on this logic, we believe that the new staircase should also use a circular form and marble material. (reference:Newsport Street Gallery, London, UK)
group timber (B&C)
group steel (E)
group marble (A&D)
Considering the location of the existing entrance, we hope that passengers can freely choose the routine they want to take. Therefore, we hope that the two staircases on both sides of the entrance are of the same hierarchy and can attract people's attention equally. After entering the staircase through the corridor, you can hover up. Standing on the stairs on the first floor, since many circulations converge here, we hope this can be the entrance to the new exhibition hall, so we decided to demolish part of the existing wall. Create intuitive visual connections in the corridor so that people can also walk freely in it. Taking staircase A as a reference, through the distinction between the ramp (considered for the disabled) and the floor finishing materials, the change in the width of the riser surface of the steps implies the meaning of this space for visitors.

Textile Museum Conversation From heritage to modern
This design is located in Winterswijk, the Netherlands, a small town close to Germany. The town was once very prosperous because of the textile industry, but with the trend of globalization, competition intensified and the textile industry gradually disappeared here. The abandoned factory district is only one block away from the city center. On one side of the road is the bustling business district, but on the other side of it, there is only a group of empty factories like Silent Hill. The textile industry culture has gradually faded in people's memory, and this area is hardly used, even the ubiquitous pigeons will not visit. How to reassess the value and position of the textile industry area in the current society, how to reawaken the residents' common memories and emotions about the textile industry, and make this area an open public space again is the original intention of my design. This park has 14 different factories. Since the owners want their buildings to be unique, they hired different architects to design. Therefore, each factory was built at a different time and has its own structure. There are many restrictions on this project. While preserving the atmosphere of industrial culture, I also hope that it can become a cozy place that encourages users to stay, live, and socialize in it.

Whemerbeek is an artificial river that has a great impact on Winterswijk, and it is also significant for the textile industrial factory area. With the advancement of the Industrial Revolution, the river was abandoned and the industrial area gradually expanded. The strong industrial architectural language and dense building groups made this area unfriendly to pedestrians. In it, the unclear borders and lack of public areas make people always difficult to orientated themselves.

Since there is a factory called Gaudium on the right half of the entire industrial zone that is still producing fabrics, it is proposed that the museum and Gaudium cooperate in economic strategy. The museum uses fabrics produced by Gaudium as its frequently updated exhibits. Gaudium exhibits its own products through the museum to accept more orders. In the textile museum, it is mainly divided into the above four kinds of routines. The routines of unloading from the Gaudium factory and stuff are seldom cross with the routines of vistors and students. They work in the museum at different times.
