MAY 14, 2012 MINUTES OF THE SGCA STEERING COMMITTEE Members: John Duke Leslie Raab Jonathan Cates Kathi Mardis Kirk Buis The meeting started at 5:40. Treasurer’s Report: There is $150 in the new Bank of America account. OLD BUSINESS Snellville Days was discussed. It was suggested that the Civic Booths should be put nearer the vendor booths or between them. ACTION: Jonathan will attend the Snellville Days meetings the first Tuesday of the month, and reports will follow. The June 4th Gala Grand Opening event of John Duke’s art exhibit in Snellville City Hall Community room was discussed. Coffee for 50 people would be nice and other drinks and refreshments from Rhodes Bakery was discussed. The time will be 7 to 8:30 on Monday, June 4, 2012. Megan would be asked to play the harp, or other classical music could be played. ACTION:Kathi has a press release which we are holding due to questions such as guest list and catering. Artist Lineups for display was discussed. The SGCA will continue to solicit artists for their portfolios to be considered by the art jurors. The artists should not see this as a competition, but an opportunity to display their art. More than one artist could be featured per month. ACTION: Deborah Kepes will be contacted. Shops on Scenic Highway was discussed with possible sites of Art Display. The Integrity School in Snellville Oaks Plaza has indicated they would like to be a display site. ACTION: We will continue to attempt to attend the Shops on Scenic Hwy meeting on the first Thursday, June 7, at 8AM at the Atlanta Bread Company. Ribbon Cutting Ceremony at the School of the Arts, near K-Mart, on June 8th, at which time it would be nice to attend, wearing the SGCA shirts. ACTION: Kathi would add this to the calendar. The Community Garden was briefly discussed. ACTION: Kirk emailing Gretchen Schultz. NEW BUSINESS IMPROVISATORI first meeting was held at Kirk Buis’ home, May 12, and the next meeting will be June 9th at 5PM at Kirk’s. ACTION: We will create an “Event” on the Facebook page. Senior Idol type event is being developed by Kathi with the director of the Snellville Sr. Center. Possible Talent competitions on the portable stage during the Farmers’ Market setup was discussed. T-Shirts for competitors was discussed. ACTION: Kathi Clotfelter, will get contestants and send them to State competition.


Snellville Beach Blast on May 19, the Fall Festival on October 20, and International Festival on September 29, and the Suwanee Arts on their website were briefly discussed. ACTION:Kathleen Mardis would add these to the calendar. Meeting adjourned at 6:50. Jonathan Cates Secretary
