AUTOBIOGRAPHY

I am Kathleen Mae O. Dayon, and I was born and raised in Cebu City, Philippines. Growing up, I was always fascinated with art and design. I always enjoyed helping out in decorating our house for special events like Christmas and family gatherings. My family also loves to travel. And through these different regions, structures, and cultures I encountered, this fueled my interest in interior design and architecture. It was not until in high school that I decided to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design when I started helping out in our furniture manufacturing family business. I was assigned in helping out with the displays for furniture expos. This made me realize that I could develop my creative skills in design. For my Bachelor’s degree I took up Interior Design at San Carlos University. During my senior year, I had an internship in HL Designs, an interior design firm. It is there that inspired me to have my own firm someday. I always strive hard in everything I do and gladly I was able to graduate with honors. In 2010, I passed the Philippine Interior Design licensure exam. And became an active member of the Philippine of Institute of Interior Design Cebu Chapter.

My first job was in Kriska Do Int’l, a furniture export company as a designer. I also became the head designer for expo exhibits. This further exposed me to different interior finishes and materials, innovative designs and production methods. At the same time, I was a freelance interior designer doing both commercial and residential projects. This gave me an opportunity to apply different design process and showcase my creativity. In 2013, I took a chance and decided to further hone my skills and creativity by pursing a masters degree. Taking it abroad would be a whole new experience and a chance to widen my knowledge in the design processes, trends and techniques. Through Online research I came across Academy of Arts University which offers, Masters in Interior Architecture and Design. Moving forward, I aim to work in an established design firm that allows me to widen my experience. And then someday have my design firm in the Philippines.

WORKSPACE OF THE FUTURE

Commercial Design

WORKPLACE OF THE FUTURE Commercial Design

THE LIVING CELL The cell is an important aspect in life. When put together, it creates a living organism. This is just like each person in a workspace where they are interdependent to one another. The different spaces in a workspace can be interpreted as a part of a cell. With the nucleus being the center point of the cell, in a workspace, it is a place where people can get together. It is an integral part of the workspace. This open type office design is wellsuited for collaboration.

ANAHAW LEAF Anahaw is a local plant in the Philippines. The angular lines on it fits well with the existing floor which has an angled section. Inspired from the folds of the leaf, repetition of lines, using angular shapes and linear patterns are use to convey it. The location is in an island El Nido Palawan which is full of natural beauty and using a concept coming from nature works well.
