Dear Residents: We want to thank you for your loyalty and commitment to the Batavia Park District as we make our best attempts to be proactive and evolve in the face of the ongoing pandemic. While there isn’t a playbook for this pandemic, we know our community stays strong when we stay connected!
A Message from Our Executive Director
This summer will look a lot different than in years past as we are taking extraordinary safety measures by limiting the number of people at our events and facilities due to the pandemic. Think of it as a non-traditional approach to your favorite activities! For instance, the River Rhapsody Concert Series is returning to the Batavia Riverwalk from June through August. Reservations are required. A full event schedule is located on page 6. The gates of the Hall Quarry Beach will open on May 29th for the 2021 swim season with two-hour, designated time slots available throughout the day from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm; 2:00 – 4:00 pm and 4:30 – 6:30 pm. This will allow ample time for disinfecting surface areas and sanitizing common areas. Reservations are required (page 13). Residents will have first priority for daily admission reservations. We are pleased to introduce our summer day camp called “Camp SUN-sational” with a new look and feel! This program benefits children entering Kindergarten through 6th grade (page 9). We understand your child has been cooped up with remote learning throughout the year and needs some quality time for socializing! Adults, test out your pickleball skills this summer with a tournament that offers competitive and recreational divisions (page 38). Or, if athletics is not your cup of tea, experience our Batavia History Trolley Tours (page 79) aboard our legendary open-air trolley! We invite you to stay active and connected with us by visiting the Batavia Virtual Recreation Center at bataviaparks.org. Please note with so many extenuating circumstances surrounding the pandemic; we decided to place the Summer Fun Guide online only. We will not be printing or mailing the guide with so many potential changes from the Illinois Department of Public Health. Keeping the Fun Guide online allows us to keep information fresh, relevant, and accurate for you! As always, we welcome your questions and suggestions, especially during this period of transition and rebuilding. All the best,
Allison Niemela, CPRP Executive Director

River Rhapsody CONCERT SERIES 7:00-8:30 pm Welcome back to our Summer 2021 cultural arts concert series featuring a variety of lively, eclectic musical acts showcasing a diverse range of tunes. This summer, the concert series will be hosted at the Peg Bond Center. Tickets will be available for individual purchase for $10. Seating will not be assigned, but pods of four will be available to maintain social distancing. Please arrive early to find your seat or group.
June 16 – Spoken Four – This group performs high energy party covers spanning the 60’s through today’s Top 40. Hear everything from the Jackson 5 to Maroon 5. The show is family oriented with tons of mashups and non-stop excitement. June 23 – Wild Daisy – They are the most energetic, dynamic female-fronted country band in the area. The band plays current, upbeat country, with a few pop/rock songs thrown in. Wild Daisy has a reputation for delivering high-quality, family-friendly, crowd-interactive, entertaining shows, with musicianship and energy that cannot be matched. June 30 – The Wayouts – Four friends discovered a shared love of 1960s garage rock by artists like The Kinks and The Animals and recognized an opportunity to offer something different to the live music scene. Their combination of raw intensity, professional musicianship, and exuberant style brings fresh life to classic songs, striking equal balance between nostalgia and innovation, appealing equally to hipsters, grandparents, and soccer moms. July 14 – Johnny Russler & the Beach Bum Band – Enjoy island and beach music with a variety and enough Buffett music to please the crowd. The Beach Bum Band has traveled across the country performing on stage with Jimmy Buffett as his backup band for charity events.
6 | Summer 2021
July 21 – Ethan Bell Band – Skillfully led instrumentals, creative cover mashups, and new songs that blur the line between country, pop and hip-hop, this group has been humbly compared to their influencers - Zac Brown Band and Florida Georgia Line. Currently playing over 125 shows a year all over the Midwest and Nashville, The Ethan Bell Band has opened for Chase Bryant, The Marshall Tucker Band, Love and Theft, and Dylan Scott. July 28 – Good Clean Fun – This dynamic party band offers a fun, interactive show. GCF can boast as recipients of the ‘Couples Choice Award’ on Wedding Wire. Performing songs from the last seven decades, Good Clean Fun delivers a performance that’s engaging, unique, and versatile playing Sock Hop, Golden Oldies, Disco, Motown, 80s, 90s, 2000s, and Top 40 hits. August 4 – Cadillac Grove – There are sweet grooves, good grooves, and great grooves— then there’s the Cadillac Groove. Jump into the purple caddy for a fun ride through southern rock, blues, R&B, soul, and points in between. Find yourself singing along as Cadillac Groove puts their unique, high-energy touch on the songs you know and love.

The Story of Hall Quarry Beach Hall Quarry Beach is an award-winning facility of the Batavia Park District!
Hall Quarry Beach occupies a former stone quarry now owned by the Batavia Park District. It has been used as a swimming facility since 1920. The story began over 150 years ago in 1842, when a limestone quarry was opened on the west end of town and Batavia received the name “Rock City.” By 1860, nine quarries were in operation, and one of these quarries sat on an acre of property along the Fox River. More than 150 men mined limestone from the quarry until it was so deep and wide that water began permeating onto the floor of the site. Soon enough, six ponds were formed that were fondly known as ‘old swimming holes.’ By 1920, the Quarry was purchased by Frederick Beach. Beach donated the quarry to the Batavia Township, and they converted the six ponds into one swimming area. This area was named the Frederick H. Beach Park and Pool. Fast forward to 1969, when the Batavia Park District formed and the property was then transferred to the Park District and later renamed. Today Hall Quarry Beach features a sand bottom swimming area covering 60,000 square feet which includes islands, slides, and a diving area. There is a playground and plenty of picnic tables as well. Come visit the beach that Batavia built!. Register now at bataviaparks.org | 13

he Batavia Depot Museum, a cooperative effort between the Batavia Park District and the Batavia Historical Society, houses the rich history of the city’s past. The museum is in a restored Chicago, Burlington and Quincy railroad station, which was built in 1854 and recognized for its uniqueness by the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. There are two floors of exhibits on local and state history to explore, as well as a 1907 caboose! The Gustafson Research Center, in the lower level of the Depot Museum, houses our archives. Researchers have access to Kane County Census records, Tri-City directories, cemetery records, obituary indexes, local church records, probate and court records, historical books, photograph files, local business catalogs and more. For additional information on the history of Batavia and the Historical Society’s collections, visit the Batavia Historical Society web page at bataviahistoricalsociety.org.

Non-Resident Fee Policy The Batavia Park District residents make a significant contribution to the operation of the park district via property taxes. Persons living outside the park district boundaries may be required to pay an additional fee to register for programs.
Electronic Signature Readers: Electronic signature readers have been installed, which will eliminate the need for you to complete a paper form every time you register. WAIVER & RELEASE
batavia park district waiver and release of all claims Important Information The Batavia Park District (the “Park District”) is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect the participant’s safety. However, participants and parents/guardians of minors registering for the program/activity must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in any activities. You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ward are physically fit and/or adequately skilled for recreational activities. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness, injury or impairment, to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity.
Warning of Risk Recreational activities are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity. Depending on the particular activity, certain risks and dangers may exist due to inclement weather, slips and falls, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, lack of safety equipment, inadequate or defective equipment, failure in supervision and instruction or officiating, and premises defects. It is impossible for the Park District to guarantee absolute safety.
Waiver and Release of All Claims and Assumption of Risk Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in the Program(s), you will be expressly assuming the risk and legal liability and waiving and releasing all claims for injuries, damages or loss which you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with and associated with the program(s)/activity(ies) (including transportation services, when provided). I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risk of physical injury to participants in the program(s)/activity(ies), and I voluntarily agree to assume the full risk of any injuries, damages or loss, regardless of severity that my minor child/ward or I may sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with or associated with the program(s)/activity(ies). I further agree to waive and relinquish all claims I or my minor child/ward may have (accrue to me or my child/ward) as a result of participating in this program/activity against the Park District, including its official, agents, volunteers and employees (hereinafter collectively referred as “Parties”). I do hereby fully release and forever discharge the parties from any and all claims for injuries, damages, or loss that my minor child/ward or I may have or which may accrue to me to my minor child/ ward in any way associated with the programs(s)/ activity(ies). I have read and fully understand the above important information, warning of risk, assumption of risk and waiver and release of all claims. If registering on-line or via fax, my on-line or facsimile signature shall substitute for and have the same legal effect as the original for signature. I understand that my child/ward or I may be photographed or videotaped while participating in a Park District program. TRI-CITIES SOCCER TEAM

COMMUNITY

SUCCESS
The Tri-Cities Soccer Association (TCSA) was founded in 1977 to provide a fun and healthy environment for area youth, from 4-18 years old, to play soccer. Today, it has grown to be one of the largest independent youth soccer organizations in Northern Illinois with great support from the local park districts. We offer families three levels of participation: ReCReATionAl, ClASSiC and PRemieR. Get started in early childhood by joining our Hand in Hand program, TCSA’s pre-school recreational program for 4-5 year old participants. RECREaTiOnaL team play begins in our U6 division (kindergarten) where small sided games ensure a positive learning experience and lots of time with the ball.
For more information on TCSA’s offerings, please visit our website at www.tcsa.net, or call 630.377.1101.
