inter will be here before we know it. As a matter of fact, by the time you are reading this, snow could possibly be on the ground and Woodland Trails Sled Hill will be open for business. Recreation opportunities at River Trails Park District change with each season. “Unplug Illinois” is an initiative created by the Illinois Parks and Recreation Association. It is an initiative that we participate in as we generate opportunities for you and your family to “unplug” from electronics and the rigors of the normal day and “plug in” to opportunities for education, recreation, fitness, socialization, game play, nature and many others. Parkour, athletic leagues for both adults and youth, early childhood enrichment classes, youth programming, dance classes along with the fitness center are available all winter long with new programs to try. There are always events to get you and your family out of the house – don’t miss out on Mommy and Me Valentine Tea, Lunch with the Bunny and our big winter event FREEZE Fest Zone! Found on pages 30 & 31. The River Trails Park District serves both the Prospect Heights and Mount Prospect communities. Be sure to Like Us on Facebook!
Come check out the benefits of enjoying “Unplugging Yourself” at your leisure, after all, The Benefits of Recreation are Endless.

Early Childhood Trail Blazers Preschool Philosophy
O
ur Trail Blazers program is a developmentally appropriate program designed to help children grow and learn in a stimulating and nurturing environment. We look at the ‘whole child’ including intellectual, social, emotional, physical and creative growth. Children develop differently in each space so the curriculum is carefully planned to include activities that help each child learn and grow in all areas. Children will be introduced to the basic academic and social skills of preschool and will be encouraged to develop problem solving skills, self-confidence and creativity. Activities will include math, science, language skills, art, motor movement, music and dramatic play. All areas of each child’s growth are important and we provide opportunities for intellectual, social, physical and creative growth. Activities are presented in individual, group, structured and unstructured settings and Jolly Phonics curriculum is used for Kindergarten readiness. Our goal is for each child to develop a love of learning, tools to continue to learn and a positive image of himself or herself.

Youth Athletics Parent Association for Youth Sports National Youth Sports Coaches Both parents/guardians of participants enrolled in any youth Association & Certification sports league must complete the PAYS program. Children whose parents/guardians have not completed PAYS will not be allowed to participate in any youth sport programs requiring PAYS certification. The clinic consists of viewing a video from National Alliance of Youth Sports and going through the handbook. This is a one-time process that is necessary only for those new to the youth athletic programs. Upon completion, individuals will sign a Parents Code of Ethics and receive their PAYS membership card and handbook. Easy as 1, 2, 3... To register for PAYS please visit http://www.nays.org/paysonline/ When taking the PAYS training, make sure to either type in code #1319 or click River Trails Park District in the drop box. You must associate yourself with our chapter to receive the $5/family fee.
Youth Volunteer Coaches Teach sport skills as well as the values of teamwork, fair play and how to win as well as lose with grace. Volunteers are instrumental to the success of these programs by acting as a team coach or coach’s assistant. If interested, please contact Kyle at 847.255.1200. You will be trained according to River Trails and the National Youth Sports Coaches Association. A 50% discount in registration fees will be given to coach’s child (one head coach and one assistant coach per team).
18 Winter & Spring 2019
National Youth Sports Coaches Association (NYSCA) is a clinical training that certifies you according to NYSCA standards. Think you have what it takes to join the Team? The Superhero Team is a non-competitive performance arts group. The students who level up to the Superhero Team are the best listeners, have the most patience, and excellent work ethic! Team members continue their parkour training while incorporating Martial Arts skills, utilize props, and will learn stunt scene choreography. Superhero Teams in the past have performed their stunt scenes at various schools and town functions. Team members that want to perform should look to join the performance zone! There, team members will use parkour or superhero skills to develop a short story/routine. Instructor approval needed to join the team.
Home School Parkour Ages: 6 – 16 yrs No class Mar 28 Challenge your minds at home, then challenge yourself physically with Parkour! Students using this class to substitute a regular P.E. class will get a full body work out consisting of Level 1 Parkour skills using obstacle courses. Do you think about being a camp counselor? Do you want more responsibility? Join our NEW Counselor-In-Training program. On Monday your child will spend most of the day learning the in’s and out’s of becoming a counselor and the responsibility it takes to lead a group of children. On Wednesday and Friday they will be assigned a group within one of our camps. They will be responsible for helping the lead counselor organize the group, lead activities and guide the campers as they see necessary. The C.I.T. supervisor will evaluate your child at the end of every session and even prepare them for a mock interview. One Monday a session we will take our CIT’s on their own personal field trip to thank them for all their hard work. Add Camp Adventure to your summer fun, to make it a complete summer.

And so begins one of the most hilarious cons in musical theater history. Max Bailystock used to be the king of Broadway, but after producing one too many flops, he’s now just a has-been forced into seducing little old ladies for money. After an off the cuff comment to his accountant Leo Bloom, dollar signs go off over his head. With reluctant help from Bloom, Max goes in search of the worst musical ever. Will it be a flop? It better, or they will find themselves in prison. The Producers is an uproariously funny musical with hilarious songs that will have you grinning from ear to ear throughout. In a cruel twist of faith, Evan’s mother, accomplishes classical cellist, and his father, the lead singer of a rock band, don’t even know of his existence. From one foster home to another Evan refuses to give up hope in finding his parents. Step 1 When just learning to play golf, it’s very important to learn the basics the right way. Proper swing, stance & grip go a long way to becoming a good golfer in the shortest possible time. Our instructor can give you that start. Please bring a 7 & 9 iron to the first class. Step 2 If you have the basics of golf down & want to improve your swing for more distance & accuracy, our instructor will guide you to the next level. Swing, short game & putting will be covered.
Step 3 Get rid of those trouble spots that are keeping you from reaching the next level in your game. In addition to reviewing all aspects of your game, the instructor will help you with whatever part of the game is giving you problems. We’ll not only prepare you to play on a course, we’ll hold 1 class with actual play on the Rob Roy Golf Course.

Employee of the Season Andrew Maggio— You may recognize Andrew by his trademark hat! After working at Woodland Trails Pool for multiple seasons Andrew took on a new role this past summer as Swim Lesson Coordinator. With his naturally positive and upbeat nature he took on his new responsibility with great pride. From his enthusiastic morning greeting to camp swimmers to taking an extra minute to help a new swimmer feel comfortable in the water he always put in extra effort to make sure all participants were having a fun and safe experience. Andrew did a wonderful job not only with managing his staff but being very personable with participants and families. He is more than deserving of this award, and we are so proud of him!
