TAINAN PUBLIC LIBRARY As the population of the Yongkang District grew, the city needed to build a public library for the people. Fomerly belonged to the adjacent army school, the site has now been bought back by the government to build a public building. The concept of this library is the strong architectural gesture that adds a flavor to the otherwise flat surrounding.
Site Location: The project is located in Tainan, one of the most southward city of Taiwan. The more local distrcit is called Yongkang District. It is a relatively new area due to the change of ownership of these parcels. The government has recalled these land and created a masterplan for the area. Currently, this site is proposed to build a public library. The entire area is very flat with adequate green and vegetations. There is a major road on the northside and secondary roads on the south, east, and west. The rectangular shape and the lack of development in this area gave me more creativity in designing a library.

MODULAR RESIDENTIAL IN BERLIN The main idea of this project is to create high density housing while still maintaining the quality of a “house. Almost every unit is provided with an outdoor space within the high-rise to allow vertical green living. Additionally, these privatized outdoor spaces are connected with the interlocking center stairs that acts as the communal area.
The faรงade of the building has a simple and logical motif of the same window system vertically throughout. Although the elevation is repetitive, there are many pop outs that create a dynamic building overall. p, a flexible community space, and mailroom for residences.

THE RECONSTRUCTION OF HISTORICAL TRAIN STATION The abandoned train station had significant historic cultural values. This project turns this landmark into a museum to preserve the city’s memories by incorporating the flow of visitors. The museum is comprised of gear-like structures, which gives off a fluid experiences. The reconstruction of the museum has kept the existing train station structure.

as Shuyuan Road, Yingjia Road, and Xiangjiang River bounded the three edges. Historically, the site was the City South Train Station for coal import and export. At its busiest season, the amount of coal being transported reached 83.1 tons, providing coal energy for the entire Hunan site. The site also has a vast amount and variety of vegetation. Overall, the location not only has a rich culture history and background, but also is the home to many environmental species. My goal was to design a structure that will add another layer to the site’s richness by incorporating the human interaction with the site.

Since the the main concept of this project is flow and circulation. It was important to understand how vision and pedestrain circulation work together.

I analyzed vision from three aspects: circulation, control and angle. By doing so, I could better understand what is the general vision range and what are the more important parts of the building visitors see. This analysis helped with the design of this project to best provide visitors with their vision experiences. Pedestrian circulation was analyzed to find out the best way people flow through the buildings. Wherever necessary, lights were allowed to guide and set the circulation of visitors.

PROFESSIONAL WORK
CITY GREEN NEW RETAIL City Green, the developer, aimed to create a new model of retail in the heart of Suzhou, China. The retail consisted of traditional commercial component with innovating amenities such as indoor bird santuary, green walls, hydroponic farming, esports center, and so on. We also focused on leveraging the advantage of the site, creating a thorough connection from two malls and Taihu lake. The last main feature is the sustainable bridge connecting two mall structures.
The Goal: The client requested our firm to design a new retail mall with two separate structures connected via a 150m span bridge. Our firm designed the two mall strucutres, the bridge, and
the exterior activity zones located on the two parcels. The challenge was to fit all the creative amenities onto both parcels and figuring out the structure of the bridge. Moreover, the client requested that the design must be sustainable; thus, there are various green walls, indoor farms, as well as a green roof that spans both sites. Lastly, the most important feature of this mall is that the top floor is designed as an outdoor retail strip (only covered by glass operable roof). 9700 1090

phase. I also designed 80% of the facade and indoor program for floors 3, 4, and 5. I was part of all client/consultant meetings for this project so I have extensive knowledge regarding the design, technically, challenges, etc. Moreover, I contributed to many acad drawings such as the one on the left. I spent approximately one year working on this project. It is currently under construction.

KUNSHAN CENTRAL LAKE RETAIL CENTER This is a outdoor retail project where it was Germanic themed. The entire project is 40,000 square meters with a FAR of 1.0. Most of the buildings are around 14m in height with the exception of the wedding chapel. The purpose of this retail center is to serve the nearby Duke University student and staff body and the future residences.
Central Lake within High-Tech Zone
High-Tech Zone of Kunshan City is one of the newest masterplanned zone. The beautiful central lake is located here.
The Goal: The goal was to create a retail center serving the nearby Duke University-Kunshan’s staff and students. Because this is a rela-
tively new area within City of Kunshan, the entire High-Tech Zone is still on its way to full development. Duke University-Kunshan was opened in 2013 and the closest retail center is about 20 min drive away. Therefore, the city desperately needed supporting facilities for the staff and students of Duke University. The government of Kunshan has requested us to design a German Village that has all the basic retail elements. Thus, this project was a 6-month effort from concept design to construction drawings currently under construction.
Site location in relation to Central Lake
Our site, Retail center phase 1 is located right across from Duke University within the overall Central Lake area.
N Overall Site Plan - 40,000 square meters
My Contribution: I was one of the main designer on this project from Conceptual Design phase to Design Development phase. Out of the 7 cluster of buildings, I designed Buildings C, D,
and E from scratch to completion. Since the whole retail center was suppose to be German-themed with a modern twist, I had to compile a lot of referencing in order to come up with the details that are not overtly cliche yet Germanic enough.
Building C: This cluster of building consists of a total of 5 retail tenant spaces. The largest one in the center is a medium-sized department stores. Other smaller units are for regular retail.
Building D: This cluster of building consists of a total of 12 retail tenant spaces. The east half of the cluster faces the lake, thus the program of these units are luxury lakeview restaurants.

WEST SONGJIANG INNOVATION CITY This is a master planning project completed professionally at JRDV Urban International located in West Songjiang, Shanghai. The area is a designated district for technological innovation and startups. The goal of this project is to create a sustainable, innovative and inspiring city for the generation of creativity.

masterplan that will accelerate the economic and technological growth of West Songjiang by attracting new innovative companies and people. Multiple dimensions of the project were considered - from transit and roadway system to creating a detailed land use plan. Our firm has succesfully created a comprehensive master plan for this Innovation City. My Contribution: I was involved with the project ever since the beginning. Several aspects I participated fully in were: building 3D digital model, creating land use plan and area tabulation, designing the roadway system, sketchup renderings, and detailing of multiple buildings. My partial contributions were: landscape design, presentation layout, english to chinese translation, and multimedia storyboard.

CBD Detailed Design: Aside from the overall masterplan, we were required to create a detailed architectural schematic design for a 2 sqkm Central Business District area. As shown from the renderings below, we detailed 120 buildings. The area is comprised of office buildings, residential buildings, incubators, three parking garages, pavillions, restaurants, and a hotel.
My Contribution: Overall, I designed 25 buildings out of the entire area. The eight call-outs on the sides are some of the ones I designed fully. I also helped out with some other building redesign and putting the overall model together. Moreover, I worked on all of the rooftops and courtyards of the buildings.
