Herbie’s 10th birthday
Welcome to Herbie’s 10th Birthday party! We’re happy to have you here to help us celebrate a decade of Windmill Windups. If you need anything throughout the tournament please contact us in one of the following ways: • In person you can come to headquarters at the Iggy • Send a message at twitter @windmillwindup • If you’re commenting on Windmill Windup you’re welcome to use #WindmillX • www.facebook.com/windmillwindup • Or email us at info@windmillwindup.com
Accommodation Camping
We here at Windmill Windup provide a variety of camping options based on your accommodation needs from regular ol’ camping, to silent camping, and green camping. Main The main camping is centrally located close to entertainment, food, and games. Green The green camping is designated for teams who participated in the carbon offset program. This space is meant for those green at heart. It’s aesthetically green, outfitted with compostable toilets, and hosts like-minded environmentally responsible people. Silent Camping Silent camping is a space saved for those who need those zzz’s. We expect those who set up camp here to respect the desires of those around them who intend to get a good night of sleep. 3
Showers
Your team has ONE designated shower. Please only shower there, or you’ll leave your buddies with cold water to take their shower with if you venture into someone else’s shower. We’ve put a circle around your shower on the map in this booklet.
Security
Windmill Windup is a secured premise in order to ensure your stuff stays safe. When you leave the premises you’ll need to get a stamp on your hand from the security team. This will ensure that you can enter when you return. If you see a person or an animal that should not be at Windmill, please inform us at the HQ in the iggy.
Mobile Charging
If you need to charge your mobile phone throughout the tournament please bring it and your charger to HQ in the iggy to be charged. Half of all of the energy used to charge mobile phones at Windmill Windup 2014 is powered by sustainable energy.
Parking
You are welcome to park your car in the parking lot just outside of the tournament. We highly advise you not to leave valuables in your car. Also, we’d like to ask you to join the camping and set up your tent because it’s illegal to sleep in your car in the Netherlands.
Green
As you may know, Windmill is always looking for more ways to be green. Here are some of the inititives we have implemented at the tournament.
Cutlery
Bring your own fork, cup, and plate to use, and after you can clean them next to the iggy. 4
5
Waste
Put the right junk in its specific bin. There is a deposit on beer glasses.
Organic
Please do enjoy the organic milk, fruit and veggies.
Energy
We will use solar energy and human energy to power our electronics at Windmill Windup 2014.
Bio-toilets
We have two compostable toilets, and phosphorus recovery from urine devices.
Carbon Off-sets
Thanks for making this tournament greener by joining our carbon offset program!
Rules and Format
The latest WFDF 2013 rules apply at this tournament. You can find the rules on the WFDF website. The rules will also be available at the fields. Open, Mixed & Ladies games are to 15 points within a 90 minute time-slots (except for the first round where time-slots are 75 minutes only). After 85 minutes you will hear the ‘time-isover’ jingle. Play out the current point, add 1 to the highest score with a maximum of 15 points. This will be the scoring cap, first to reach this score wins the match. You will also hear a jingle two minutes prior to each time-slot start and another at the start time.
6
All games have two-minute mirror half time at 8 points. The second half is started with initial elections (whether to receive or throw the initial pull, and which end zone to defend) switched. Each team has 2 two-minute time-outs per game, which can be taken at any time except after the ‘time-is-over’ jingle (i.e. after 85 minutes of the playing slot).
Mixed Format (4/3)
We play normal 4/3 mixed. Each point, the team on offence decides whether it’s 4 boys or 4 girls. Offence must be clear and hasty about which it will be so the team on defense has time to match and strategize before the next pull.
Swiss Draw
The Swiss draw format ensures that teams are ranked quickly according to their real strength and play close matches against opponents of similar strength. Windmill Windup is proud to have successfully run this format for years. First, 5 rounds of Swiss draw will be played to rank the teams. At the end of 5 rounds, the division splits into 1-8, 9-rest. The top 8 teams will go into a standard playoff bracket to play quarter finals, semi-finals and finals. The rest will continue with three more rounds of Swiss draw. Continuing with the Swiss draw has the advantage for the lower teams that they are likely to play new opponents. For the way teams in the Swiss draw will be ranked, the point difference between the winning and losing team is the most important factor. So even when your team is losing, keep trying to score as many points as you can!
7
Score Reporting At every field there will be scoring volunteers who keep track of the scores and directly upload them to our scoring system http://www.leaguevine.com. Additionally, we need the team captains to sign the scoring papers at the end of the match. In case you notice that there is anything wrong, please notify us immediately at the Iggy. Spirit In your team package you will find spirit forms. You will need 1 form for every day (so 3 in total). In case you lose your form you can get a new one from the scoring volunteers or at the Iggy. At the end of each day hand your spirit form in at the Iggy or give it to one of the scoring volunteers. On the last day bring us the scores before watching all the exciting finals, so we have enough time to calculate everything!
GroupMe
We created a GroupMe group for each team. These groups can be used for communication within your team. Herbie will send a message with information about your team’s next match (opponent, field, time) to this group before the start of every round. At the end of the round, you will be informed about the final score that was uploaded to our scoring system Leaguevine. Click on the following link: http://www.windmillwindup.com/signup/groupme/ to join your team’s GroupMe. ***There are some parts of the premises that are not equipped with wifi. If you do not see a message, you will either need to venture into wifi laden terrain, or check in the iggy for the location of your next game.*** 8
