“I am here for a purpose, and that purpose is to grow into a mountain, not to shrink to a grain of sand. Hence-forth will I apply all my efforts to become the highest mountain of all, and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy. - Og Mandino I am endlessly grateful for the opportunity to be creative in my career and in my life. I received my creativity from my mother who was not given the same opportunity as me, although she very much deserved it, and in a way I feel that it is my duty to be able to do what she could not, but of which she never stopped wanting. That said, I believe that it is important to be ambitious in everything that I attempt, and that failure is merely a step towards future successes. I absolutely adore clever and well-thought through design. Great design should not just look good, but should also be responsive, and by that I mean to say that it should mean something to whomever sees it. I am endlessly attracted to the color blue, any shade of it really, and beautiful typography. Most of all I love brand design, because it allows me to come up with extremely simple designs with powerful messages, which I find so inspiring. I hope that as you look through this book, you see who I am as a designer, and as a person, and that you like what you see. Thank you for taking the time to peruse my designs and learn about me.

Personal Brand Identity
My personal brand identity is designed to emulate me as a person. I based my identity based on growing up in Seattle. The gold coloring is expressive of the sandy tones I grew up with, and the deep blue and green are the colors of the ocean waves and the old-growth forests I was constantly surrounded by, and which contributed so much to the person I grew up to be. My favorite place on earth is the Hoh rainforest on the coast of Washington and it is where I find peace as a person. The patterning of deep blue and gold seen on the inside of the envelope, is an example of the brick streets and buildings that I was so used to seeing back then.

Architectural Posters
The goal of this project was to create a typeface that appealed to the design of a famous architect. I chose the architect Louis Kahn to model my font after. His work is renowned for its geometric forms and open spaces. This project taught me a lot about type constructions and layout, as well as taking something that does not necessarily have to do with one type of design, and seeing how it can be transformed through its attributes into a completely different kind of design that still relates back to the original work.

Senior Show 2015
The 2015 Senior Show is a grouping of events that happens at the end of the school year, showcasing the various art departments on campus. My version of the posters are designed to bring some humor into a rather stressful time. We as creative people have our own particular style of thought process and so I desired to show that through my poster design. The colors used in the design are the school’s official colors for anything they design.

Life / Art Sculpture Exhibition
I wanted to find a way to put my love of sculpture into my portfolio, so I decided to create an exhibition that showcases my work. I branded my sculpture with a logo and a graphic style and took pictures of them in order to create posters and advertisements. I decided to use a circle for the logo because my work very much is based on realistic looking designs that give off the feeling of life, and circles can represent the cycle of life from birth to death. Red is a color people tend to relate to passion and sculpture is very much a passion of mine.

Boeing / Cyber One
I completed an internship with Boeing in 2014 and while there, I designed a logo and brochure for their new Cyber One Committee. This project was, until recently, classified because of the information involved in it. My brochure was sent to the Pentagon, the FBI, the TSA, and various other government organizations. This was a huge and valuable experience for me and I feel that I gained a lot of knowledge from it to use in the future. I used Boeing’s brand colors and typefaces that I felt fit the style of their design.

05 / More Information During my time as an intern with Boeing, all of my work had to be kept classified for several reasons and I still cannot show too many details of the work. What I can say is that I was asked to create a logo for a committee, and that work that I did for them eventually contributed to the logo featured behind the president in the picture directly to the left. It was truly an incredible experience getting to work with all of those amazing people at Boeing and a joy to see the effects of my hard work on such an incredible scale. Boeing was a challenge to work with because they are such a large and influential company and so there were a lot of restrictions on how their brand can be used. For example, I could not have the ‘wings’ on the Cyber One logo going a certain direction because that would be too similar to the Boeing logo. I also could not have the text appear a certain way, so that is why there are variations on the logo shown and the one used on the brochure. Overall it was an excellent learning experience that I learned a lot of valuable lessons from.

HumanaLingua Brand Identity
HumanaLingua is a language translation and interpretation company based in San Diego. The owner is from Uzbekistan and wanted a brand that fit her friendly nature, as opposed to her competition, which remains more sterile and corporate in nature. The logo is representative of a flower blooming into life, and the colors fading from blue to green shows how the company helps their clients transition from one language to another. Blue and green are colors that express life and so are the colors I chose to use in this brand identity. HumanaLingua also focuses heavily on medical based translation and because of this, I wanted to design the logo in a way that gave of the impression of a medical environment. After much research, I concluded that it would be best to design the signature in a horizontal setting with the logo to one side and the company name to the other. The blue and green coloring are also colors that are often seen in medical based logo design.

06 / Standards In addition to designing the stationary and environmental signage for HumanaLingua, I also created a standards manual. The book explains all of the brand identity rules, and explains the proper use of the brand in any and all works created off of it. This was a great experience because it forced me to have a reason for every design decision I made.

Vice & Virtue Espresso Roasters
Vice & Virtue was designed to be a coffee company located in San Diego which is unique because it grows its own coffee beans. The color scheme was chosen to fit the misty days on Sunset Cliffs, and a series of browns are used to give off the comfort of a classic coffee house. The logo shows the opposition of the words vice and virtue, by using different serif fonts as well as two handdrawn Vs which face each other like greater and lesser symbols. I designed the logo mark in a way that allowed me to easily transform the mark and use it in different ways throughout the stationary and web designs.

Totem Winery
Totem Winery is a made up winery located in Olympia, Washington. Growing up in Seattle, I was surrounded by Native American drawings and tribal symbols, and I believe that it greatly influenced my design style. Totem Winery is based on those symbols such as seen on totem poles, and Native colors, which in Washington, includes a lot of red and blues. I enjoyed learning about package design throughout the process of this project and learned how to integrate my 2D design into more of a 3D style. I learned how to design a logo so that it fit the object that it was being applied to which in this case was a wine bottle.

TED Prize Winner Publication
Sylvia Earle was the 2009 TED Talk winner, and she spoke about her desire to clean up and save the oceans and all the creatures that live in them. I created a short publication in respect to her and her mission. The publication combines both photographs and illustration to give a more interesting and eye-catching concept of the ocean and all of its inhabitants. This project taught me the importance of designing for a bigger purpose than just to sell a brand. Design can be used to change lives for the better.
