Kashba Reclaimed Side Table THE BEAUTY OF IMPERFECTION A truly striking reclaimed piece. In its previous life the Kasbah side table was originally used as a grinders stool, the miller would sit and grind the grain on a 'Chakki' (or grinders table) using traditional tools. The unique markings and slight imperfections in the wood gives every table its own individual look and feel. Due to the traditional way these tables have been created, there are notable differences in size which adds to their character.

Leather Craftwork The leather we use is a bi-product and we carefully select our leather hides and use only natural, traditional treatments to retain their individual character. Goat leather is soft and buttery while Buffalo offers durability. Depending on the collection, our leathersmiths will treat the leather with natural vegetable extract or tree bark, which allows the colour to enrich further with time.

The Art of Making At Nkuku, we have always been passionate about handmade products. While on our travels throughout Africa and Asia we are constantly inspired and captivated by the natural materials and traditional crafts that are evident in each of the countries. This knowledge plays an important part in the development of our product collections; celebrating the skills and materials from different corners of the world. We love the fact that many of our collections derive from practices and techniques traditionally used to make practical every day products, such as clay pots to store and carry water developed into ornamental pots for the Nkuku collection; age old potting techniques, using small hand-built kilns heated with open fires to create our fair trade Mali pottery; and saddle making techniques now used to create stylish leather journals and accessories. The characters and personalities of the artisans we work with are visible in the pieces they make and their experience and knowledge add to the beauty of our collections. It is easy to

overlook the time and effort invested in a handmade product but if you pause for a moment and absorb the textures and details left by the maker, a sense of awe transpires. We see our suppliers as partners. The handmade process means our collections take time to make, so we have to allow for long lead times, taking into account the many challenges faced. We adhere to the standard globally recognised 10 Principles Of Fair Trade, but have our own procedures for the management of our supply base. We strongly believe trading fairly provides these artisans with an opportunity to build a future. It helps businesses develop and creates sustainable employment.

Ela Collection TRADITIONAL TECHNIQUES The Ela collection features a beautiful raised droplet pattern embossed around the rim. To achieve this ceramicists hand paint natural wax onto each piece using traditional techniques, excess raw clay is then washed away raising the drops from the shape and creating an embossed effect. Once the piece is fired the wax burns away leaving the beautifully imperfect painted drops.

Maya Collection NATURAL MARBLING The classic shape of our Maya collection is enhanced by the organic swirls of its marble pattern. This eye-catching design is crafted by artisans using entirely traditional methods. Local Vietnamese clay in light cream and red are mixed together in their purest form to create a soft natural tone. Once mixed the clay is shaped into patty's, hand pressed and finished in a clear glaze that enhances the natural raw materials. The handmade process means that the marble effect will slightly differ on each piece making them truly unique.
