This year, we bring you three thoughtful collections: Nostalgia for a joyful and generous take on a traditional Christmas with jewel-like tones and classic shapes; Opluence for dramatic and elegant decorations with thoughtful finishing touches; and Found for our wild and wonderful homage to nature, taking inspiration from the simple beauty of the world around us.

As always, each piece is designed with the greatest care, making sure to use natural, recycled or reclaimed materials for a unique finish that brings both character and charm to the festive season.

We think that ethical business is good business, that’s why we work to make sure that all the people involved in Nkuku, from producers to employees treat each other fairly and with respect.

Eco-Friendly

We care about the environment, and this has an impact on how we go about our work. We work with natural and recycled materials through sustainable methods of production, and this shapes our collections.

Handmade

We want to make sure that age-old traditions are handed onto future generations. This is one of the reasons why handmade products create the core of our business. The relationship between an artisan and a beautiful handmade piece creates a story and makes each product not a mass market item, but an individually crafted piece.

The Beauty of Handmade

The characters and personalities of the artisans we work with are visible in the pieces they make; their experience and knowledge add to the beauty of our collections. It is easy to overlook the time and effort invested in a handmade product but if you pause for a moment and absorb the textures and details left by the maker, a sense of awe transpires.

Throughout our travels we are constantly inspired and captivated by the traditional skills and techniques that we see. It is these skills that really motivated us to set up Nkuku, allowing us to continue exploring, learning and discovering.

Our Materials

The materials we work with shape our collections and play a key part in our look and values. We choose to work with natural, recycled and reclaimed materials through sustainable methods of production. We gather the waste left over from other industries including cotton from discarded t-shirts to make paper, as well as recycled metals and glass.

Recycling allows us to create new and beautiful products with less impact on the environment. It is important that the natural character shows through in our collections and we celebrate subtle imperfections.
