Final Unit Orientation Tests.
Working out the best orientation of unit 3
I have further tested unit 3’s orientation, based off the grid, sunlight and it’s relationship with the other units. The optimal arrangement is the circled iteration as its layout creates a shared terrace with unit 2 and doesn’t block sunlight from the other units.

Circulation + Programme.
Public + private spaces and how people move around the building
It was important to create a clear separation between the private and public access and I have achieved this by creating two entrances on different levels. All circulation routes have both a lift and stairs so the building is accessible to everyone.

Melopee School
Ghent, Belgium
Xaveer De Geyter Architects (XDGA), 2020
The building is made up of a 5-storey steel framework that contains a mix of classrooms, playgrounds and sports facilities forming a space-saving school. It’s a multi-use building within the Ghent docklands, based on a masterplan by OMA. The building is split into two: an open framework on one side and a more traditional structure on the other.
